Joseph has done a couple of previous jobs: one big and one medium. The first was replacing Knob and Tube wiring in an antique house. The second was wiring a whirlpool tub. He did amazing work on knob and tube, avoiding opening walls and getting the job done in a surprisingly short time. The whirlpool was a straight forward job which he went at and got done quickly. His knowledge of the wiring codes had him replace the breakers for the tub under recent code changes. The recent work was a quick and dirty job and I was wondering if he would even be interested in taking something like that on. Fortunately he was available and came the next morning. It turned out to be a really simple fix but it did depend on knowledge of his craft. (Multiple bathrooms can be wired together with one gfci.) As always, he is my goto guy for electricity. Joe did some work for us - very simple light fixture change - and he was courteous. When we called him several months later he made an appointment for a few days out, and I was clear to let him know I would be adjusting my work schedule for this appointment. I find him talkative, and he went on about a big job he is doing and how he feels badly there are so many small jobs in Maynard he wants to get to but can't. I asked him if he was taking this job because although it was "small" we suspected it could be a dangerous situation. Yes, he would be there "early afternoon" on a day the following week. Well, he never showed up. No phone call. I gave him the entire afternoon. When I called him late that afternoon (4:30), he wasn't even sure what I was talking about. Then he said he did recall, but he was working on a big job, and he gave me the same information about how he has these big jobs going on and feels badly there are so many local people who he can't get to. Ok, I thought I'll play along with this and I asked hiim politely when he expected he could get out. He said maybe on his way home. I said, what time would that be, he said 5 pm, but it was already 4:30 pm. Oh, that's right, he said that wouldn't work. He said I should call him next week and he would see what he could do and that he would never remember to call me since he doesn't write anything down. Needless to say I don't care how inexpensive your prices are or how good your work is, or what your trade is - doctor, electricain, hairdresser, tinker, tailor, sailorman - treating a customer like their time is less valuable than yours AND not having common courtesy to take 3 minutes to call and cancel or explain you are too busy means you are not running a good business. My sense is....this electricain will be happy to get paid to do work for you if he isn't busy with a bigger job but, converesley, will not tell you he's too busy to take on your job because he wants to keep your business for the times work is slow. That being said as it turns out the wonderful electrician we hired by way of recommendatioin from 3 local (Mayard/Acton/Sudbury) businesses ened up having to spend a full day to fix what turned out to be a large issue. Ironically, if J. Rocheleau had simply called me that morning to say he wouldn't be able to get to us that day - or even if he had called at any point that day to say he was too busy - I wouldn't have written a negative review. read more

When we had our kitchen redone, we got Joe in to update the electrical. I love this guy. He sits and carefully figures out the very best way to install everything, then tells you exactly what he is doing, and why. Then he does it, and cleans up impeccably. His prices are extremely reasonable, and he is rock solid reliable. I referred him to one of my clients, and the guy still thanks me for the referral. read more

Joe completed a midsize job for us installing outlets and overhead lighting fixtures. He was easy to work with: communicated effectively, did what he said and showed up on time. He is reasonably priced and the final bill was very close to his initial estimate. It is obvious he cares about his work and was great in suggesting options for different situations. I called only a few hours ago, and he was able to work in a service call in the middle of his busy schedule, with immediate response. I was impressed with his diagnostic talents, by the questions he asked and how he took in the information about the problem I provided him with on the initial conversation. Upon looking into the problem, he immediately knew what the problem was, and fixed it quickly. In addition, he is highly personable and honest. I used Mr. Rocheleau's services 2 years ago, and was so impressed that I told all that I found a great electrician. He was pleasant, efficient and very reasonable. In fact, today I went through my old checkbook to get his name, could not find him in the phone book, and lo and behold here he is on the internet. I will be calling him tomorrow to perform additional electrical work in my house. A construction contractor today said that he could provide an electrician. Called the business line at 9:30 at night, and received a call back before I even left a full message. 2 smoke alarms that I thought were hardwired wouldn't stop going off, even with fresh batteries. Joe walked me through disconnecting them. (They weren't actually hardwired - I just didn't realize that they'd keep beeping for 15-20 mins after the batteries were out). Agree with Kerri's review. We needed some outdoor wiring installed in the middle of the winter (the builder had neglected to install it). Joe walked us through several options, then took the agreed upon path that was most practical and economical. Very pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient. Joe (and Mike) came out to my house a couple of months back to install recessed lights in our bedrooms and install some outlets in the kitchen. They were fast, professional, personable, cleaned up after the job and were reasonably priced. They did an awesome job!! I can't say enough positive things about the experience. I've been telling local friends and neighbors my experience as well--and bragging about how I found an awesome electrician. NIGHTMARE! The most appalling interaction I have ever had with any contractor. Joseph Rocheleau was thoroughly rude, obnoxious, aggressive, violently angry, and lacking in any manner of self-control. He threw ridiculous temper tantrums and spewed the most vicious torrents of insult and verbal abuse I have ever witnessed. This man is in dire need of anger-management therapy. I strongly caution anyone against hiring him. I purchased Joseph Rocheleau's services via an Angie's List "Big Deal" in September of 2014. I wrote several times to set up an appointment, but he would never commit to anything and told me to call instead. Whenever I called, he told me to write. Back and forth like this several times. When speaking with him on the phone, he was curt and tried to end the conversation as quickly as possible. Each time, he claimed to be booked up for more than a month in advance and he said he would get back to me. Never did. Finally managed to get him to come over to my place on February 17, 2015 to do the work that I had paid for back in September. It is clear he has little intention of honoring the "deals" people purchase through Angie's List, or he resents having to come and do the work since he has already received the money, or else he feels he can pocket the money without doing the work simply by wearing down the customer through attrition. Joseph arrived at about 8:30 AM. He made no effort to wipe his filthy boots. Boorish entry aside, our introduction went smoothly enough. But his attitude soured as we proceeded to discuss the particulars of what I needed done. Over the course of the next 1.5 hours he became progressively surly and outright rude. Started reprimanding me for daring to check on the progress of his work at various intervals, and several times barked that he would charge me extra for "peeking." Also made countless outbursts and spewed offensive profanity. Around 10:45 AM, before completing the work, he attempted to leave, saying he had "better things to do." I had to argue with him that I had paid for 8 hours of service. I still had 4.5 hours of service remaining on the contract at this point in time - should have been plenty to finish the few things on my work list. After I pointed all this out, Joseph immediately became aggressive and extremely irate. He grew particularly upset at a ceiling fan he could not figure out how to operate properly. He insisted the motor was dead, which was absolutely not the case. I proposed to run up to the Home Depot and purchase a new fan. At this suggestion, he started yelling that he was not going to wait around and "waste his time" - willfully forgetting the fact that I had already paid him for the time. After more arguing he still refused to wait while I go grab the fan, so I gave him something to do (which by that point I had removed from the to-do list because he was so unpleasant and I wanted him out of my place as soon as possible). The work entailed stepping just outside the back door to install an exterior light and installing a wall switch to operate it from the inside. He swore and yelled that if he had to step one foot outside he would charge me double. So I told him to forget about it - and that I'd think up something else for him to do for 15 or 20 minutes while I got the fan, but he then insisted on doing the work. At 1:00 PM, Joseph hands me a bill on which he charges me for time that he never worked. When I asked him politely to clarify his math, he instantly flew into the biggest fit of rage I have witnessed in my life. He pounded his fists on my countertop, slammed tools down on the floor, tore up papers, screamed and spewed vile profanity at the top of his lungs. Most memorable was the line, "YOU'RE NOT MY F _ _ _ ING BOSS! I GET TO BILL WHATEVER I WANT AND YOU HAVE TO F _ _ _ ING PAY IT!" He continued screaming every expletive in the English language and calling me every vile epithet imaginable. I felt threatened by this point so I backed into another room and grabbed a utility knife in one hand and a hammer in the other in case he tried to attack me - which I felt was a real possibility. Holding the tools behind my back I firmly ordered him out, then braced myself for an attack. He stormed out violently, without a physical attack. He was still screaming profanity when he reached the street and still calling me vile names to his partner who had already been down in Joseph's truck for approximately 20 minutes. I prepared to call the police in case he came back. Under no circumstances would I ever hire this madman again. If you wish to avoid a shocking and traumatic experience, you should think twice about this one. Joseph simply cannot treat his customers this way. I was very polite and friendly to Joseph, but all I got in exchange was an utter lack of respect. Sadly, the only way to stop such abusive and obnoxious behavior is to report the experience for others to see. read more

We are in an emergency situation where we were closing on a house as sellers and just failed the fire inspection. The fire detectors needed to be hard wired. Joseph committed to the job and worked during the day to make sure it was done quickly, to code and efficiently. He cleared his schedule for us with two days notice and we were incredibly grateful. I definitely would recommend him. He was knowledgeable and his work passed inspection. read more
