Needham Mechanical was extremely difficult to deal with and I would definitely warn you against working with them. I tried over and over to discuss an invoice with them but, all they did was stonewall me. When a company refuses to even discuss a bill, it certainly makes me think that I was overcharged. I called Needham Mechanical because my AC unit was leaking. Because the unit was located on my top floor the water travelled through the ceiling and down through a light fixture. I specified this when I called in for a technician to come out. Upon arrival the technician asked where the unit was. Within minutes he said it was frozen and that he would need to turn the unit off and return the next day. The next day he arrived and started outside before I knew he was there. He then came to my door and said he added R22 to replenish levels. He was trying to fix the cooling component thinking my cold air wasn't working (it was). When he was finishing up he said something to the effect of "did you know there is a leak". I was a little taken back because that is why I called in the first place. My unit is in a very cramped space and so couldn't be accessed to fix. If they were to fix it they would need to open a wall. When I received the bill I was shocked because I was charged for things I never requested to be fixed. Also, nothing was fixed. The unit still leaked. I was told that if I replaced the unit they would credit me the charges, but I would still need to pay upfront despite my dispute. I set up an appointment for the sales person to give me an estimate for a heat pump - because it would fit in the space and a furnace would not. After the initial consult an appointment with an electrician was made. I took time off of work only to have him not show. It took multiple attempts to subsequently get him to come out and get a new quote on system. Multiple email were not responded to ... just a large charge for something that wasn't fixed. Ultimately the sales person said they wouldn't be able to do the job anyway. I couldn't be more disappointed in a company and how they handled this situation. They split the cost of the refrigerant cost, which wasn't significant to the amount charged. If technician had communicated better upon arrival I could have shown him where the water was leaking. Instead I was billed over $500 to tell me what I already knew, the unit wasn't fixed and I missed working waiting for a new unit appraisal. I won't be using them again and would recommend you find another company for your heat/ac needs. read more

Needham Mechanical quoted us a price to replace our AC system of 40 years approximately August 2022. In February 2023 we gave the approval to install. NMS did Not increase their price. Their work was unprecedented, especially because access to the AC units was over a stairwell with foldable stairs. The quality of craftsmanship was perfect. The clean up process everyday was outstanding and most importantly, the daily crew was like watching an orchestra well tuned perform their performance. The AC units gave us so much pleasure. They installed our furnace and replaced all the ductwork in 2015. Since then, we've had issues every year. During winter, the furnace stopped working several times. In the first few years, they came and said that they fixed it, but the problems recurred. Eight years later, we had two other HVAC companies come to check why we were having so many issues with a relatively new system. They informed us that both the furnace and the ductwork had been installed incorrectly. We paid the initial company over $20,000 in 2015, and now we have hired another company to replace the furnace and redo the ductwork. We are extremely frustrated with their work and service. My advice is to stay away from them! read more

I had to replace my 22 yr old AC system got a few quotes and must say it was an absolute pleasure working with all the people at Needham Mechanical Heating they arrived on time for the estimate scheduled the replacement for a Saturday and John and Craig arrive at 7-30 am worked and by 2-00 pm had ac in my house They we very courteous and clean working. Outstanding Value My wife and I just had Needham Mechanical install central air at our home. We dealt with seven members of this team. Each was a pleasure to work with. They were all prompt and professional, and they showed the utmost respect to our property and to us. More than any other contractors, they were exceptionally neat. At the end of each day, they always made sure to leave their work areas very tidy. The house dates back to 1931, so there were some technical issues which they easily overcame. Other contractors had visited and said they could not do the job. They finished the job exactly when promised. Best of all: the price was roughly 60% of other quotes we had received. We are usually reluctant to jump at the lowest bid, but this was not too good to be true. I highly recommend this operation. read more

The first day they arrived, it was snowing. They helped my husband shovel out our driveway and then worked all day long. They laid down drop clothes and worked carefully around our home. Stay away!!!!!! I called Needham Mechanical to get an estimate on a broken central air system. The gentleman who came out (who, by the way, was very nice and professional) spent about 5 minutes looking at the unit and told me that it needed to be replaced. He said he'd put together an estimate for me. A couple of days later he sent me an estimate that was over $2,000.00 more than two other estimates that I had received. They now want me to pay $140 for the "service call." They're telling me that if I had asked for an "estimator" rather than a "technician" they would have given me an estimate for free. Keep in mind that neither of the other companies, who were asked to provide the same thing, charged me to bid on my job. Just Needham Mechanical. P.S. I used Dipietro Heating & Cooling and could not have been happier. They came all the way from Haverhill and provided a "no charge" assessment and estimate. My sister called me earlier this month to say her boiler in Brighton was gone. A local company quoted her almost $3000 for a system. I called Needham Mechanical and the owner contacted me. He went to the house, next morning, despite this being mid-March and peak Covid-19;risk, looked at the system, and told me that yes the boiler was gone but that for such a small house my sister needed a much smaller system. Not only did he install it for $1400, but he brought two space heaters to her home, because it needed asbestos removal and she would have to wait two days. Two day, not two months. No extra charge. Yes he is a friend but to get her boiler replaced in two days at less than half the price plus be so kind as to hand deliver two space heaters was absolutely and maybe literally a life saver. read more

After juggling a few things, Needham Mechanical was able to do the quickest installation, which was most appreciated. Their price was also the best. Claim to support American Standard equipment but wouldn't come to our house to service it.

Terrible service and embarrassingly bad competence in my opinion. They came out to repair an AC unit and had to come back several times before getting right. Careless and messy workers who give no regard to your house and instead treat it like a workshop as they tromp across your carpets with dirty boots and smear your walls with dirty hands. Is it really too much trouble to ask that you not damage a house when you are being paid for a repair? They finally got the repair right on the third try after realizing mistakes by their other technicians. It is worth it to get a different company even if they are farther away. I recommend you avoid them like the plague. read more

Me and my wife called Needham Mechanical Systems to get a quote to install a new furnace and AC. The sales man that came out was extremely knowledgeable and gave us all the information we needed. We received our proposal via email as requested promptly and decided to move forward with the instillation. The installation crew that was set what great. Both of the guys were polite and cleaned up at the end of the day extremely well. Our system is running great and both my wife and I couldn't be more please with the service we received. Stay away! We hired Needham Mechanical/Energy (Same Owner) to convert our oil system to gas heat. Extremely bad mistake and I will never call them again. This is my first yelp review I have ever written. Thought I had to do it because of how bad Needham Mechanical's/energy service is. We dealt with an over eager sales person who over promised my wife and I on several occasions that they would get the job done the right way. We specifically asked him three times if the work they were going to complete was going to work with our specific system (split system) and he assured us there was going to be no issues after they had a technician conduct an onsite visit. I am sorry to say that a large portion of my house is not being heated right now on my main floor. Including my kids playroom where they spend most of their time. I called the owner directly to talk to him about the issue. His team had very little knowledge about my heating system when I called to discuss and had no answer for the problem that I was dealing with, which to me seems like a common situation that they must come across. The worst part about the experience is that the owner took absolutely no blame for the lack of knowledge, no blame for his sales person who overpromised to get the sale and under delivered on the job (then pretended we never had that conversation in the first place). This is not a company that I will ever do business with again and I plan to share this experience and lack of customer service with my neighbors so they don't make the same mistake. read more
