I noticed the drink the bartender was making looked inviting with the coconut rimmed glass and a pineapple leaf and slice of lime garnish! I have lived in the Smyrna area for many years -- and I'm sure I have passed Jose's many, many times without paying it that much attention. Its location is good and convenient enough. It's just one of those places you might not notice. That would be a huge mistake. The variety of the menu is amazing. I ordered the Chipotle Shrimp dish. I thought I might be more hungry -- so we ordered an egg roll appetizer. The appetizer was wonderful -- but, in all honesty, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The entre was quite generous -- and the flavors and textures were to die for. I had to take some of it home for lunch the next day. I will add Jose's to my top five choices of local eateries. The BEST fish tacos! The battered fish is light and crunchy. It's topped with this amazing slaw with sweet mango. And their hot salsa is fire! Spicy and delicious! And only $8 for 3 tacos! You can't really beat that. I'd have to say though, that's the only thing I really like their menu. The pork tacos were ok, the flavor was good but the meat was a bit chewy and cut a bit too big for tacos. We also had their wings and the Beijing noodles, were okay but too sweet. I like the type of noodles they used, but the sauce was just too much and too sweet and I had huge chunks of inedible Napa cabbage. Service is always great, fast and friendly and convenient. Trolling for a good place to eat that I had not visited before, I was lured into this restaurant by it's concept and the caricature on the sign. A fusion Mexican/Asian restaurant seemed pretty good, and the caricature captured both cultures. Boy, was this good! Having only time for the fish tempura tacos, I still enjoyed the meal. These were great, and once again, I kick myself in the backside for ever going to a national chain restaurant. The fish was fresh and light and I loved the toppings in the taco.
