My primary care physician referred me to a local surgeon who, politely but very clearly, declined to perform the surgery, explaining that the repair was more complex than he felt comfortable taking on. When I mentioned that I had a consultation scheduled with Dr. Belzer the following week, his immediate response was, "If you were my wife... I would only have John Belzer do your surgery." It's not just Dr. Belzer's extraordinary skill and reputation that set him apart -- equally his kindness, compassion, and refreshingly measured lack of ego. I am not the easiest patient. I don't tend to accept information at face value, regardless of how accomplished the professional may be. I ask questions, and I need to be fully informed. On top of that, I was deeply traumatized by the impact of my accident on my life for my reasons. Lots of anxiety and even more questions. My primary doctor recommended Orthopedic Surgeon as I was complaining my right hip was really…read morehurting. I looked up reviews on Dr. Cox and was pleased most reviews on him were excellent. Then by chance spoke to a couple of personal friends and it happened they had Dr. Cox for their surgeon on shoulder and hips. My first appointment with Dr. Cox he showed me the x-ray on both sides of my hip and confirmed that my right hip had severe arthritis and he recommended some physical therapy first. After six weeks of PT, my follow-up appointment with Dr. Cox, I told him I was still in pain and the PT didn't really help. He confirmed it probably wouldn't but I could continue PT or think about hip replacement. I decided immediately I was not going to live in pain and decided to go ahead with the hip replacement. Once I made that decision, his staff was excellent to work with to get me scheduled for surgery and what to expect. The staff were so easy to work with from beginning to end. Dr. Cox has a delightful bedside manner. The surgery went well and I can feel the recovery of my hip each week gets better.

He does drive-by exams only says hello (some times) looks at your injury, says a few words and leaves. I read his post op report and maybe not many patients read them, but one of the threads broke during surgery. So instead of 3, only 2 threads were used to reconstruct. I asked him to speak more on what happened so that I can understand and feel assured about the integrity of my surgery. Instead he was very defensive and rattled off his experience and how many procedures he's done. Never answering my question. Post op care: after surgery he just bailed. Never saw him after I woke up to tell me how it went. He didn't even call my partner who was taking me home to tell him how everything went. Staff was confused said he was supposed to call. He never did. I have a secondary injury on my shoulder from my accident and all he can say is PT, deadpan response. Not helpful. 2 months post op my shoulder still hurts and never did he give me a PT referral for my shoulder. Only got one for my elbow for occupational therapy. Something is clearly wrong with my shoulder too. I guess I'll have to go see someone else for this if he can't be bothered to explain what's going on. Unreal and ridiculous. If you are a patient that likes to be educated to make informed decisions about your health, this doctor isn't for you. Still in rehab from surgery and staying diligent with PT so will see how much range I get back from surgery. I have had great care with other doctors at CA Pacific Orthopedic, so I am shocked how my experience is this time around. If you need elbow and shoulders, see someone else in that group. I dislocated my shoulder and had an "off-track" bone thing. Dr. Schrumpf met with me initially to…read morego over what happened, then to look over the MRI findings, and then to perform the surgery. The MRI took about 10 days to get an appointment and I met with him immediately after to go over them. This was Thursday and I got the surgery that Monday. I felt cared for and he called me the next morning to check I was doing alright. I opted for the longer nerve block and havent felt any pain yet. I'm planning on just doing Tylenol to avoid needing narcotics which they prescribed me. 2hr surgery. They immediately put you under and you wake up with a sore throat from the tube. Staff were all friendly and informative. Its been 20hrs since my surgery but Id recommend Dr. Shrumpf from the care I received this far.

Dr Belzer is a gentleman and a pro. Skilled, warm and a great communicator. We both had him care for our shoulders with a complete shoulder replacement and a MUA. Most recently I had Dr Callander perform an anterior right hip replacement. I was in great pain and barely able to just walk across the room in the weeks before surgery. Several hours after surgery I was up and walking without any pain at all. I was home that same afternoon and was walking up and down all 3 levels of our home. I was sent home with crutches and a walker and never needed either of them. I just hit my 6 week mark and progress is amazing. Dr Callander combines expertise, warmth, knowledge and a sense of humor which makes the entire process such a comfortable one. His staff (especially his PA Johnna) is just as impressive in their communication and response to messages/questions within a day. As much as I was in pain before my procedure, I was anxious about the surgery too. I already know that I will eventually need my other hip replaced, but after my experience this time, I will definitely not be anxious again - - - in fact, I will look forward to it and certainly not put it off as long as I did this time around. * * I want to also add that my PT mentioned that she was very impressed and appreciative of Dr Callander's notes. I suffered a month as my healed incision slowly ripped itself open under pressure. I tried to get care and was shopped around and ultimately told they didnt know who to refer me to help me. My entire surgical site opened completely over the course of six weeks I contacted them almost daily with updates and photographs of my skin slowly split apart under its own pressure. Finally my surgeon stepped in and said he would fix it so I underwent another surgery to close it. Basically their after care sucked

I had a full knee replacement in May 2024. For a year I had physical therapy three times per week,…read moreused a Dynasplint, and other methods but I could not get my leg to bend past 95 degrees and it would not go straight. I was in constant pain, walked with a limp, and was always swollen. In June 2026 Dr. Callander performed a revision. He exchanged the plastic liner with one 2 sizes smaller, removed part of the meniscus that was not removed during the knee replacement, and removed scar tissue. Within a few days I was amazed at how great I felt! I'm now six weeks post-op with no pain, bend to 120 degrees, fully straight, and no swelling. I can't say enough good things about him and his staff.

I scheduled surgery for February of 2025. There was no mention by Dr. Green that the surgery might not be successful or could possibly make my condition worse. After 4 months of physical therapy and wearing a brace, it was apparent the surgery not only did not work, it made my condition worse. I have nerve damage and extensive scar tissue. My finger is still bent at 90 degrees. Dr. Green's reasoning was that I was "an outlier".
