This is an honest review so bare with me - too often in today's medicine things are dictated by bottom line numbers with insurance and meds. We all know that most docs that take insurance are all stressing about making sure they see and take care of their many patients. Not always an easy task, especially when docs themselves have bosses to answer to. The whole health system can be hard to navigate for all of us. As such, I did have a miscommunication with Dr Tarpley, through no fault of either of us - just one of those miscommunications that can happen to us all, despite best intentions. Much to his credit, when he was alerted to my concerns he took the time out of his weekend and a special family celebration to call me and we were able to discuss my medical issues. He also made sure that from here on out I know exactly how to get in touch with him. He did not "need" to call me as promptly as he did, but he made the time. That is the type of doctor you want to have. He has a very kind way about him and is a gentle soul. read more

It is impossible to schedule an appointment. I had to reschedule my physical because of travel plans and was offered an appointment that is 8 months out. The office staff is unprofessional and rude. Avoid if possible, there are much better options out there. read more

Best General Practitioner I have had 10/10. I initially wanted a doctor that knew about PReP (daily pill I take), which lead me to Dr. Tarpley through recommendations. I convinced my older brother to make Tarpley his GP as well. My parents came in for an important visit to Tarpley, and they liked him a lot (and they do not usually love younger doctors, but Tarpley clearly know his stuff). Dr. Tarpley is the best. He has been my GP for about seven years and always provided such good care. I think he may have the best bedside manner I've ever experienced. He never rushes, and is always patient when I ask questions and feels very safe to talk to. He has a very solid breath of knowledge, but also doesn't have an ego and is upfront when he believes that I should meet with a specialist. I am so happy that I was given Dr. Tarpley as a choice of Primary Physician with my insurance. Hands down the best choice I have made in a long time. He is very friendly, knowledgeable and caring. He made me feel at ease and answered all of my questions, he was very thoughtful and took time with me to make sure that I understood what he was saying and gave me 2 referrals that I needed. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get my x-rays and bloodwork done right then and there. I moved to the South Bay during the pandemic from LA and needed a new doctor. Found amazing reviews here and they were spot on! He is so knowledgeable about general medicine and also LGBT friendly! What a bonus for me! I got some blood work done and I didn't understand the red flag/results, boy did he guess my symptoms 100%! Another doctor couldn't diagnose it, but after listening to my symptoms and what I did that day that lead to those results he guessed the problem affecting my kidneys! My prior doctor retired during the pandemic, so I have been looking for a seasoned local primary care doctor and I found an excellent one in the South Bay with Dr. Tarpley. His office-bedside manner was excellent while his extra attention in terms of getting to know me during the initial visit was genuine and greatly appreciated. I went to Dr. Tarpley as a new patient since he was the closest who took my insurance (... you know how that goes...) with good reviews, which were scarce around yelp. I absolutely loved him! He was so respectful, nice, thorough; we went over a bunch of stuff on my physical app, and went over the -let's say obvious- after 40 issues. So I absolutely adored Dr. Tarpley and his team of nurses. I came in with a bit of doubt due to having to switch from my previous doctor on my insurance. I just had my first visit with Dr. Tarpley. I was a little anxious as we all are right now during Covid and just kind of being out! But then I got there and each person in the office greeted me happily! They ran on time,which is big for me, and couldn't have been more pleasant. I then met Dr. Tarpley. I have got To say I don't think I've ever had a more thorough, kinder, informative doctor in my life! He took his time with me he answered all my questions and most importantly he opened up so many more options for my health care and well-being than anyone has ever done. I know a few good specialist doctors that I'll see when needed but realized I needed a GP, so I was in search for one...was recommended a couple of different ones in the South Bay area. Both took days to return my calls. If I needed to make an appointment, it would take for ever to do so. If I was sick and needed to see them "sooner than later", good luck with that. I took it as this is the "norm" with having a GP. For what ever reason, ( probably because they are located close to me), I decided to call the Torrance Memorial Physician Network located on Manhattan Beach Blvd. and asked if there were any GP docs I could set up an appointment with. They connected me with Dr. Jason Tarpley. I expected the same type of business type treatment from his office as I previously received from other GP docs, but at least he was closer to me. Here is the shocker...he is not like the others. He takes his time to discuss any questions I have. I've never felt rushed. I feel like he loves what he does as he shows compassion. Now get this...if I feel ill and need to get in for an appointment, his office gets me in that day. And to top all of this off, he returns phone calls the same day I call in...THE SAME DAY ! Besides all of this, I trust him. Bottom line, he's a good doctor who has a real concern for his patients. My only hesitation in writing this review is that if he becomes too popular, thus it would become difficult to get an appointment to see him. read more
