I saw Dr. Wallis for a couple of years when he was still in Hermosa Beach. He has outstanding credentials and great reviews. Unfortunately it just didn't work out for me. At my first appointment he described himself as being a medical 'quarterback'. Not being a sports person, I'm not sure what he meant by it but I found him to be more of a middle manager. He'll take your vitals, order & review blood tests, prescribe some basic meds, but otherwise refers everything out. You don't even have to take off your clothes for any appointments - though this can be a plus if it's what you're looking for. My main issue is that he does not perform annual women's wellness exams. He will refer you to a Gyn. My prior doctor of 15 years & new doctor both regularly perform your annual women's wellness exam especially if pregnancy is not an issue unless you specifically request otherwise or have your own Gyn. For basic annual exams there's no real need for a specialist. My question is does he perform prostate exams on men & or is it just women's wellness he's not comfortable with? Because trust me, I don't like that exam very much either but it's a health necessity. If you're a women he may not be the right fit. He was very thorough in ordering lab test before your visit & taking vitals and reviewing them in great detail but he did not really leave time for addressing patient questions and concerns. By the time I got home I always felt that I didn't have a chance to discuss my concerns or he was dismissive of them. I always come in with a notepad to keep track of my doctor's comments & my questions. I did have one concern that I did a Telehealth appointment. He suggested I come in for a physical exam, which I did, but he never performed the physical exam. I was too embarrassed to ask. I came to Dr. Wallis when my primary care doctor of 15 years moved her practice too far. He came highly recommended. I was contemplating another doctor but chose Dr. Wallis on their recommendation. His concierge service was not feasible so I moved to another doctor who is a good fit. read more

Thank GOD I found Dr. Wallis. I truly believe he saved my life. For those who have a few minutes to read, I'd love to share. For those who do not, suffice it to say that I've been with him for over 15 years due to his commitment, diligence, and diagnostic skills - and that with the launch of Beach Cities Medicine, he will be even further enabled to deliver uncompromising, skilled and compassionate patient care. We are all the better for it. I'm excited to be part of it! The longer story is... I first met Dr. Wallis over 15 years ago after feeling run down, with periods of low-grade fevers and chills for months. I attributed these to the confluence of stress both my professional and personal lives - traveling for work, overseeing the care of my parents, and so on. When I finally brought my health issues to the attention of my former PCP, his treatment of multiple courses of Z-Paks offered little to no relief. It was around this time that I began to experience pain in my clavicle and was unable to raise my arm. After some delays, I was referred to an orthopaedist who did a very brief exam and series of imaging tests, but failed to ascertain any cause for my pain. It occurred to me that while I was being a fierce advocate for my parents' healthcare, I was being entirely too passive when it came to my own, so I took the initiative to seek out a new PCP. I was seeking a doctor with the rare combination of excellent diagnostic skills, the willingness and desire to take a detailed patient history, and the inquisitiveness and commitment required to solve complex challenges. I wanted the medical equivalent of Columbo. My initial consultation with Dr. Wallis exceeded my expectations. He asked that we meet at the end of the day so he would have sufficient time to take my history and review all recent tests. He even asked me to bring my recent imaging results (the actual film, not just the radiologist reports) for his review. Imagine that; a doctor taking the time to plod through all the potential "evidence". After taking my history, noting a murmur on my exam, and ordering more blood work, he called me back in. I recall the follow-up meeting vividly - there were signs of a raging infection somewhere in my body. And he suspected my heart valve as a possible root cause. Dr. Wallis acted with great urgency, involving both the care of my cardiologist (I had a history of aortic insufficiency) and an infectious disease doctor. It turned out I was suffering from bacterial endocarditis, an infection of the heart valve. It was quite possible I had been experiencing symptoms for many months. The pain in my clavicle was caused by a small piece of infection-driven vegetation flaking off and depositing in my joint. Thankfully, I did not suffer more adverse consequences such as may have occurred if these vegetations had gone to my brain or lungs. Treatment consisted of 6 weeks of daily antibiotic infusions and resulted in me making a full recovery. It was very likely I had been suffering from this infection for many months, and only the commitment, diligence, patience and diagnostic skills of Dr. Wallis discovered the root cause of the problem and resulted in long overdue treatment. I have long marveled at how Dr. Wallis is able to always place the needs of his patients front and center, even as medicine has become more "systematized", even to this day. With the launch of Beach Cities Medicine, Dr. Wallis returns to his roots of dedicated, uncompromising, skilled and compassionate patient care. We are all the better for it. read more

Saw Dr Wallis for the first time today, for a follow up due to having injured my leg. Enjoyed his friendly, welcoming, down to earth manner as well as his charming greeting and goodbye fist bump. He listened, dictated, diagnosed, recommended and was extremely thorough and diplomatically informative. Nurse Gabby was also very pleasant, as was staff member Kim, who was more than helpful and kept her promise to call back. Despite the day after Christmas, received top notch care and service, feeling relieved, and grateful I made the switch to this efficiently run office with wonderful staff and doctors, such as Dr Wallis and Dr Hebbar. Went to him for a few years and thought he was good, though the wait to see him was ridiculously long - usually well over an hour. Then one day I said I wasn't comfortable with taking a prescription drug daily to stave off migraines. He went off on me...truly. He was very condescending... acted like I should know all the risks etc. of each drug and what a moron I was to have that opinion. Wow. Isn't that what I am seeing him for?? I never went back. I find that Dr. Wallis actually takes the time to listen to and explain all results of tests. Wait time is a bit longer than I'd like, but not to bad. Had to fill out medical history paperwork. I went to Dr. Wallace from about 2008 to 2010 while I lived in RPV and Hermosa... he was always so nice! I always felt comfortable and he never made me feel bad in any way. He is totally professional but also makes you feel at ease so you can be honest about how you are feeling. I only stopped going to him because I moved back up to San Francisco. Dr. Wallis is competent in that he orders the common tests for ascertaining the status of a person's health. However, his interpersonal skills are sorely lacking and interfere with his ability to gather the information he needs to adequately assess the patient. Further, he feels it is his duty to reprimand the patient because they have chosen the doctor they chose in the past who is well-liked but has moved to concierge medicine. Dr. Wallis actually stated that he was "stricter" than my previous doctor! Really? Stricter? I seek the care of a doctor for his expertise and experience to help ME determine the correct and tolerable treatments for myself, not to have a self appointed patriarch chide me! It is clear that Dr. Wallis does not really respect his patients nor know how to interact with them to achieve the best health outcome. You can make a better choice than this person to assess and guide you, in my opinion. read more

Disapointed - I don't know if its they are too busy, they have other commitments like professional sports, or they really don't care..... I have been a patient for 4 + years... I am unable to get access patient portal, and the staff are unable to give me working token to start access, despite numerous attempts When requesting information in writing (no access to portal) turns out my address is wrong on file, glad I asked (despite filling out forms at every visit) - i guess my personal information has been mailed to my neighbors - awesome Lastly just plain inattentive , requested prescription updates via express scrip 4 times with no response from staff or physician - I called 4 times in a week to get to the bottom of it...... getting nowhere each time ,accept , "We will take care of it" I asked for the physician to call me ......he did not. In the end just plain old terrible service. I would not recommend putting your life or your well being in their hands , I won't be anymore. read more

Have seen Dr. Wallis for over 10 years. Can say I'm very happy with him as are several people I know, both family and friends. He's fine for anyone but particularly will recommend for any athletes or just people who lead very active lifestyles. Dr. Wallis has a strong interest in sports medicine and is a triathlete himself. My brother is a physician and has similar values, He has spoken with Dr, Wallis and has the same opinion as I do. He solves problems, gets results and explains them to you. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Wallis for years. He is by far the best family care physician on this planet! I say this because he has saved me more than once by ensuring proper diagnosis and immediate care. A few years back, he saved me from permanent hearing loss, and more recently, he saved my life by sending me straight to the hospital for further testing, which ended up being a life threatening situation. If I did not receive Dr. Wallis' care, I would not be here today. I have been going to Doctor Wallis for well over 8+ years and have nothing but good and positive things to say about him. I have never experienced any of the bad things that some reviewers posted here. He is always attentive to my needs, he listens to my concerns and has always been responsive on refilling my prescriptions. Dr. Wallis has been my physician for the past 6 years. I give him the highest rating for both his medical expertise and his communication skills. He always takes the time to listen attentively and he never rushes me. Recently I was experiencing pain in my shoulder. He thought it was my rotator cuff so he ordered an MRI and took charge of the authorization needed from my insurance company. Yes, he was right and my rotator cuff was torn. After I was scheduled for surgery with the orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Wallis immediately took care of all my blood work and pre-surgery physical. Most of my family used to go to him when he was in the Torrance office and only a couple times in Hermosa Beach. The main reason we stopped going to him was because of his attitude. He seems pretty knowledgeable about medicine (although very conservative, which is ok), but his attitude sucks (for lack of a better word). He talks down to his patients, has absolutely no sympathy / feelings / interest in them or respect for them and has been down-right nasty verbally to us on multiple occasions, as well as others we know. Excellent at communicating and pinpointing what could be behind an illness or injury, great at listening and explaining as well for me as the patient. Not only does he provide great care, it is also very interesting to learn from his thorough diagnosis. Highly recommend.
