I had such a wonderful first experience here! Got my hair done about a week and a half ago by Mariah. Although she is currently an apprentice, the service and end result are far from amateur! She took time to understand what I wanted and was always communicative while working on my hair. I used to go to chain shops but I've had my fair share of bad cuts. This is the first salon in Kona I've gone to that isn't a Supercuts/Mastercuts/etc etc. And I'm so glad I did! The staff was so friendly and upbeat. You could tell they bonded well together like a family. It was such a nice environment to be in (which I think is important, especially if you're going in for a 4+ hr long hair appointment). As an apprentice, I was told by Mariah that the appointment would take a bit longer than other stylists, which is totally understandable. Plus, a free haircut and half-off color treatment is a STEAL in my opinion. Thanks, Josie's! I will definitely be returning. read more

I did not have a good experience at all. First, I spent $195.00 before tip and could not tell a difference at all. She did not discuss prices with me and just went ahead and did it without my consent. It was my first time there and will absolutely be my last. My stylist was nice but discussing prices with clients before doing anything should be discussed. read more

My mom took me here to get a haircut from Tony. Since my hair was short/medium and I have a lot of hair, I wanted a trim and to take some weight off. I went in looking for a low maintenance beachy style and after talking about what I wanted Tony talked to me about the best style for me. After a wash he cut my hair and styled it so perfectly! Because I told him I didn't know how to style my hair he even gave me a demo and took the time to explain his styling tips so that I can recreate the look with the hair tools I already have at home. Overall Tony is an amazing and very positive person! He is very skilled, pays attention to detail, super patient, thoughtful and really fun to talk to! Okay its been 8 months since the first time I have gone to get my hair done and I have gone back three more times. I'm going blond, really blond!!! Love coming to Josie's! Tony has been my stylist for about 9 year's, so when he started working at Josie's Salon I followed him. I love coming into Josie's Salon to see Tony and everyone who works there ( Josie, Shyla, Hinano, & AJ). I always feel like I'm at a party with all the stories, laughs and company. The vibe is always up beat, music is always great and I can relax and unwind from the daily schedule. I'm amazed at everyone's expertise and care for their client's. I tried out Josie's Salon and got my initial appointment with Donna very quick. Donna is a super sweet, classy, professional, caring and sister like kind of lady. I had red hair that I felt no one else wanted to tackle and she did. I took her whole afternoon and she was amazing throughout the whole service. I had a second appointment right before a vacation trip and she accommodated me and made sure I was priority. She is now my to go for my hair. Donna makes sure you are taken cared of with every aspect. Her pricing is well worth it. read more

Shyla is the best! I came in for my appointment for my hair cut, you get a relaxing shampoo wash. She asked me what I wanted and I showed her a picture and she gave me exactly what I wanted. The atmosphere of the whole place is so fun a fresh. They play great music and all the employees are very kind. I paid $54 for my hair cut but I have her a 15% tip because she did such an amazing job! If you want a really good hair cut surrounded by great people come here! If you are man and looking for a "real" haircut you need to schedule an appointment at Josie's Salon with AJ Lim. He is a young man that listens to what the customer says and then does a highly professional job cutting hair. This is not a normal Kona 10 minute clip, but a real haircut with scissors, comb, clippers where needed. I have had the same mainland barber for nearly 40 years and AJ was able to match the cut after only three visits. You want a buzz, he can do it. I went in with a harsh grow out line from previously being blonde (brown to blonde) and asked that they blend the line, and add more brown to my hair as I was getting married and wanted my hair to look nice and not half and half. I stated I was alright with them carrying SOME blonde above the growth line if they needed to, but I wanted my hair to be shades of brown. Went in 3 weeks before my wedding, they TOTALLY IGNORED MY REQUEST and I left the first appointment with more blonde hair than when I walked in. I was pissed and asked if I could come in again and have them add more brown, because it was way too blonde. My hair was basically gray. I went back in the next week after paying $220+ for what I didn't want and gave them a chance to fix it. I tried to be clearer on what I was looking for.... 2 washes and colors later and it's still not right. Hair stylist was rude the whole time. The owner kept trying to tell me how much everyone liked the color and how many likes the photo got on their page... if I hate it what does that matter? I ended up with a dirty blonde shade that almost completely washed out in the 4 times I washed my hair in the 2 weeks before my wedding day. Ridiculous. I don't recommend this salon to anyone. read more
