The JI used to be a great newspaper, now, by the time it is delivered by the USPS, it is history. On top of that, the cost of the paper changes frequently, and without notice. In April of 2026, autopay for my subscription was $23. Not quite a month later in May, I was charged $29. Now, $6 may not seem like much, but to someone on Social Security, that is a 26.1% increase in cost. If you don't think that's bad, if gas was $3.65/gallon, it would be $4.60/gallon with a 26.1% increase, and everyone would be screaming. While I really enjoy reading a newspaper, I guess I will have to get my news from TV. Time to cancel my subscription! read more

This newspaper is /was an evening paper. Now it is a two day old news/ newspaper. It's delivered by the USPS, so if it's a holiday for them you get no paper. No credit, just no paper. The next edition you get will be three day old news. The paper has shrunk from what it used to be and the sports page is a joke. Two day old scores and usually no mention of Nascar races. There was a part where it told you the upcoming baseball or what season sports is on, time and day for the week.They shrunk this feature so small it is almost impossible to read.One issue last week had seven pages where they forgot to put ink in the printer because the pages were almost blank. I only get this paper because I have been a subscriber for over 50 years. Their reign is soon to end. Today I got a bill where the price has gone up eleven dollars. No warning ,no notice, nothing except a bill. Just pay up and shut up. The paper used to be pretty good when Alma Ellis ran it now since Hearst took over it's a joke. Lately the paper is 40 pages, dowm from the usual 44. Heck, they cant even fold the paper properly. It's never evenly folded down the middle. Today I called to ask about my bill and was put on hold for 7 minutes, then the line went to a busy signal and then went dead. I called again and the message said the office was closed. Do yourself a favor and save your money this paper is on its last leg and will be gone soon. read more

They sent me a sale for 8 weeks for $15.20. When I called to activate it with their promo code the Agent told me it is not in their system. The flyer I received in the mail says sale ends 4/30/2024. I asked him if I could speak to a supervisor he told me to hold on and I did for 30 minutes then it hung up on me. I am really truly thinking about going to Conumer Protection and BBB to report them. I am very angry their customer service is not very nice either. I wouldn't take their paper now if it was free and I am going to let all my friends know how they operate. read more

Thus paper is so biased! It only seems to support 1 side. I can't remember the last time they had a positive commentary piece or opinion piece. It appears that this paper is now only someone's opinions in print. The only reason I read only part is for local news. Yes I am a subscriber. I don't even read 80% of it. Same same same. Not everyone uses a computer or phone to read so digital copy is useless. Paper only when Post Office is open, and they've been ok. The Journal Inquirer is a local newspaper in the Manchester area. I believe they cater to other locations as well. I don't subscribe so I can't comment on their news reporting ability. Unless you are really desperate DO NOT work here. Affording the basic necessities such as shelter, food, and electricity will be impossible on your mediocre salary. You will need at least one but probably two roommates, a spouse that makes significantly more than you do, help from your parents, or a sugar daddy/mama to survive. You will be treated poorly as they feel all employees are expendable. Your paycheck will be laughable. Don't even think about getting a raise or a promotion, because they don't believe in raises and there is no room for growth. So you could work there for your whole life and the only raise you will see is when minimum wage surpasses your salary. Though they may ask you to take a pay cut so that the owner can go on safari in Africa like they did 6 or 7 years ago. That was before my time but employees don't forget about things like that and word still gets around. When I left everyone was still waiting on that cut to return to their paycheck. The fluorescent lighting, 80's decor, mismatched furniture and punching in and out is downright depressing. Employee morale is low. And when someone is lucky enough to find a new job everyone jokingly says, "take me with you." Surprisingly enough the benefits are good (medical/dental) and for an excellent price too. There is a 401k but it's pretty pointless since they don't match anything. You are better off getting a Roth IRA. If you do find yourself working there say whats up to Irene and Tony back in production. (If they still work there). read more

I recommend NOT having your child working for the Journal Inquirer as a paperboy/girl. I have been a paper girl for about 3 years now. Us carriers are treated like trash. They pay us no mind. When I am out of rubber bands to wrap papers in, they dont give it to me until I have called the JI myself and complained more than four times. But if I miss a paper or I deliver them late? Your manager would call you RIGHT away. The JI is all about the money, and have horrible customer service. My customers on my paper route have came up to me themselves complaining about the horrible customer service when they call the company. The pay is a JOKE. Ill be honest with you, without tips (which is slim to none) I get paid fifty bucks every two weeks. That's highway robbery. I am 16 and can be getting paid SO much more. That's why I have a new job and get paid more than that in a day! I have never worked in the higher positions, but the word is they dont get treated any better. Like the review before me states, apply if you are only desperate or not looking for growth. Otherwise youll be treated like dirt and get pennies for a paycheck. read more
