My son loves it here. The teachers make the training fun. They have about 3 teachers per class, the rooms are big and clean.

My Personal Experience with Carlos Henrique Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…read more This post reflects my family's personal experience after being involved with the academy for approximately six years. During that time, my son was extremely dedicated to the program and is an avid competitor in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. For over five years, he was at the academy almost every day from approximately 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. He would arrive early to assist with coaching younger students for two classes and then stay to train for two classes himself. We invested a tremendous amount of time, travel, and resources so he could compete at tournaments around the United States. Unfortunately, during that time my son experienced what we perceived as ongoing bullying behavior from another coach/parent at the academy. From our perspective, he was ridiculed, made fun of, and demoralized in front of others, which negatively impacted his confidence and emotional well-being. We raised concerns but did not feel the situation was adequately addressed. During the COVID shutdown, families continued to be charged full tuition while the academy was closed. We were told online classes would be provided, but in our experience those were limited or did not occur as expected. The academy also holds belt promotions twice a year that include a promotion fee (approximately $150). Families considering enrollment should be aware of those additional costs. When we ultimately decided to leave the academy, the transition felt uncomfortable and we felt discouraged from training elsewhere. This post reflects our family's personal experience after six years at the academy. Other families may have different experiences, but I believe parents should have full information when deciding where their children train. We have been gone for over two years now BEST DECISION I COULD HAVE EVER MADE. My son is excelling and learning to enjoy the art and sport of JIU JITSU AND COMMUNITY.

I have been studying Tai-Chi-Chuan here for approximately 4 years and started here on the…read morerecommendation of my doctor. My teacher, Bob Klein, is incredibly knowledgeable, but humble, patient and kind. He doesn't just teach what the movements of the form look like, he teaches all the inner mechanics which are what make it so beneficial to one's health and the way one feels. It also is what makes it so much fun and interesting. I always say I don't know which it helps more, my body or my brain! He teaches Qigong along with the Tai Chi, in preparation for the movements. He not only teaches you the health benefits of Tai Chi but the martial art aspects of it as well. There are classes for self defence and push hands as well. I noticed after studying with Bob for a while that I was able to apply the movements that I learned in class to the ways I moved in daily life (which has put a lot less strain on my joints) and the philosophies we learned in class that are part of Tai Chi Chuan have helped to reduce stress and to put things in better perspective. When I leave class, my mind is cleared, breathing is slower and if I came in stressed, I leave calm. I feel gratitude for each class. What is so nice about these classes is that one is never made to feel silly or embarrassed no matter how uncoordinated you feel (and believe me, I was very uncoordinated when I first started). He just wants you to learn it so you can get the same benefits and joy that he does from it and he will work with you in whatever way you need to achieve that. Bob encourages questions and never treats any question as silly. He is always happy to patiently go over whatever you need him to. I always come out of class learning something new. If I were to say I really loved going to class or that it has helped me enormously, it would be an understatement. It has literally changed my life. I had a serious accident approximately 3 1/2 years ago seriously injuring my back, ribs and elbow which required surgery. I felt like I could never be the same active person that I had always been. This was just a few months after I had started studying with Bob. I was not able to return to class for 6 months, but fortunately I had his DVD's to work with. As soon as I got out of the hospital I practiced my qigong and form using his DVD's . I was told I would need back surgery (but didn't have it) and that I could never open my arm fully again. I returned to class as soon as I was able to and could drive. I take several classes a week with Bob and practice at home. With class and practice, I cannot believe how good my back feels and I shocked my surgeon by being able to fully open my arm. I can be myself again. In the process I have also come a long way in my understanding of Tai chi. I think this school is unique in the amount of attention each person receives in class, the depth of Bob's knowledge, and the amount of attention to details he provides. It makes all the difference in the way one does the form. Most importantly, Bob and his wife, Jean, who is also certified to teach, and quite often gives us the benefit of her presence in the class as well, create a wonderful environment to learn in, one in which no one ever feels judged. Thank you Bob!
