Longer version: Moving into our new 1.5 bed place on the UES, we learned that the walls were in need of coating after the last tenant moved out, and that we'd need to get it done ourselves, and quick given that we were moving in three days. (Turns out the norms and laws around apartment painting are honored more often in the breach than the observance.) I ran a bunch of queries through Thumbtack, and got lots of; ignored, no problem; one very low quote but the boss couldn't offer a COI, instead suggesting that we describe her crew as helpful friends (no thx); and several quotes much higher than we had in mind paying, over a month's rent. Mez then calls me direct later that evening, and I lay out the situation. He quotes me a fair price and lays out exactly what we should do to keep the cost contained. I ask him if it would help to see the place himself, he replies 'always'. He comes all the way up the island well into the evening to meet there, and then spends a huge amount of time walking around the place, answering a thousand questions from my wife and I, and making knowledgeable recommendations. He says he can get it done in time for the move, and they *do*. Paperwork done, lickety-split. We pick paint, the crew shows up at the place, totally hands off (good, cause we're packing our brains out on the west side), sends out photos and an invoice at the end of the work. They even sent a guy back out the next week to take care of some trim work that got missed in handoff, and handle some touchups from the dings left by the movers and internet installers. The place now looks gorgeous, free of dust or drips, cleaned up and refreshed in exactly the way we wanted it. To be honest, until Mez called I had been planning on burning a weekend (or more) and learning how to do this work myself, but getting professionals makes the result perfect and the process painless. tl;dr: Hire these guys. The price is fair, the advice is rock solid, the work is impeccable, and the follow-through is extraordinary.

I was a bit suspect when Mez told me the work would only take a day since it definitely seemed like a 2 day job, but he reassured me and he's a very warm pleasant guy and then when he showed up with his colleague I thought okay if it's the 2 of them maybe it could be a day... Mez text me at the end of day to let me know they had to come back, the job was going to need another day-- ok no problem, I went back to my apartment that evening to check on the work and had a couple of questions, when I contacted Mez I found out he was actually not on site at all that day----I was disappointed, so I asked Mez if he'd be on site the next day, he said yes. The next morning I met both him and his colleague in the morning and later when I checked on the paint it was still not covering AND Mez was NOT there. Mez hadn't been there all day. Looking at the second coat on the walls, it was clear the walls needed another coat of paint and another day of work--so I was charged more for the extra paint and extra time. The next day Mez's colleague met me at the apartment--no Mez in sight again and finished the job. Ultimately, the walls look good and Mez's guy also did a great job cleaning up the site---but it took more time and money than the quote Mez provided and I understand that quotes can be off, but this was way off and I don't know if it was him just trying to get the job or if he was really just not knowledgeable about the work---but b/c he was also dishonest with me about being on site for the work, there's no way I would ever hire his company again.

Conversely, the rep from Prescision was a pleasant enough chap, but outside of quoting us over $2k for the door, he informed us the job would take about 3-4 weeks, as they'd have to "build it from scratch" and that our car would be stuck inside, so we'd need to rent one or take ubers for the next month. Additionally, he wanted the info for our Home Owners Assoc., as he said he would need written approval for the job, which "sometimes takes a week or more." This, all for a simple white garage door. You'd think we were looking for gold plated studs or something crazy. The guy didn't even bother to help us try and lift the door. Instead, insisting we would have to live with it the way it was for weeks until the job was complete. Meanwhile, after he left, it took us two minutes to figure out if we held the emergency release, while lifting the door, it went up, no problem. So much for renting a car for a month. It was at that moment we called AB Garage doors. The guys came out the next day and fixed it all in under 2 hours. Total cost was $600 less than Precision quoted. Never go with any rep who says they're "the biggest in the biz."

Huge scam company, everyone be aware! We originally hired Ab Garage Door to replace brand new…read moregarage doors a year ago, but I think Ab Garage Door outsourced their work to 5 Star Garage Door Service. And recently they changed their company name again to Olympus Garage Corp as there are too many negative reviews and claims. It's the same group of people. Since then the garage door keeps having all sorts of issues, especially the sensor and control for one of the door was malfunctioning for half year and they promised to come but never did and we had to call them so many times and worked out a manual way ourselves initially. Then one day the door can't close and we had to call them for emergency repair, and another time the screw fell off the L shape handle and the door can't open, we called Shawn who originally got our business, he told me to call Jeff, the owner of 5 Star Garage Door Repairs. Every time they came out, the guy they sent will ask for a charge between $275-289 and never admitted it's their installment and alignment issues. But in the receipt, they wrote "5 year warranty on labor" but they never honored. The guy would threaten us to pay him or he would not leave or do anything even if it's something minor and it's totally their fault. Owner Jeff had been rude, disrespectful, dishonest and unresponsive to trying to solve the problem. If I knew that's the company I am dealing with at the first place, I will never hire them. Neither of the companies stand behind their work or their warranty. We are beyond outrageous as we spent tens of thousands with them and their service and quality are the worse ever!
