Before going I called to ask what would disqualify me, since I had the $4800/year fee. I was told they only turned away patients unwilling to take their advice on their health, so I was reassured as I am always compliant. I went today and in my initial meeting was encouraged to tell the doctor intimate details of my medical history, something I wouldn't tell anyone who wouldn't be taking care of me. Only after disclosing my most intimate concerns was I told they only take "healthy patients." As this "doctor" said, they already have a "handful of elderly patients with a long list of medications" and I guess that means they're full up. Clearly that's all the caring they seem willing to provide to the Walnut Creek community. Besides being appalled that people in a caring profession would only take "healthy people," I felt both disgusted and violated to have told my intimate medical history to somebody who had no intention of helping me. I reached out to someone in the office to explain my concern, and instead of offering to see what they could do, I was told that they would send me a list of "doctors with openings" in the area. After writing twice to get the list I was offered, what I received was not a list of physicians with openings but a generic list of physicians I could have cut and pasted from the internet. (I know from having called these offices that many of the listed physicians have no openings.). Although I am not surprised that what I finally received was not responsive to what I needed and wasn't what they had promised, I was surprised they didn't know the plural of "physician" is "physicians" not "physician's." I guess I shouldn't have been surprised they showed so little care about documents provided to the public since they are not a health "care" office but to be so unprofessional as to not proofread their documentation exemplifies their lack overall care. They want your $4800. They don't want to help anyone. So if you want them as your doctor you better be rich and healthy or you are out of luck (which would be contracted "you're" not "your," for the office person's edification). If I conducted my business by only accepting clients who would give me money and not need me to do any work for that money, I would have tons of free time; might even learn a new hobby. Good idea, no? Except these are "health"professionals, not "professionals for the healthy." They took oaths to do no harm above all else and I was truly harmed today. I feel violated and I feel misled. And I lost two months waiting for an appointment that was a sham. If I want simple wellness assistance, I'll go to GNC and it won't cost me $4800/year. Anyone who reaches out to Banner Peak only-for-the-healthy, go in with your eyes open--and have a real, healing physician on standby.

When Dr Rotman moved to concierge medicine I didn't even have to think twice about moving with him to his new practice. He's been my primary physician since. It's not that he's just a great physician, he's the best. I have four MDs in my family and he is a physician just like I remember my dad being. Everyone that works in his office are friendly, helpful and I love that I can always rely on them. These days being able to reach your doc after hours is not an option, unless this is your physician. When I have surgery my specialists are happy to be working with him. He gets all my blood work, EKG and pre surgical test done before I even have a surgery date. If your looking for a physician to help you take care of yourself look no further.

Why is Dr Bernens so insecure with having patients find the best option for them? Plenty of doctors would be comfortable and confident in their ability and wouldn't resort to these childish tactics.
