I never had any serious back…read moreproblems, but I was feeling stiff and misaligned which was annoying in my yoga practise - plus sometimes my back muscles would just get really tight and sore (which I thought was just part of me working out so much, but turns out it was due to misalignment). I knew that my pelvis was tilted forward a bit as various yoga teachers had told me that was the cause of my stiffness. So I felt overly prepared when I walked in into my first exam. Dr. Lila Wolfe listened to me bragging about all my little pains and issues, and then examined me very thoroughly. She immediately found out that the stiffness I was experiencing wasn't due to my muscles not being stretchy enough as I had always thought - it was because my lumbar spine was completely locked, thus not allowing much movement and resulting in my chest & shoulders always making these crackling and popping noises when I stretched (again I thought that was just normal..). Also she found out that my pelvis was not only tilted forward, but also twisted to one side which suddenly explained why I always hold my head to one side (and I thought that was just a little spleen I had).. After hanging out on the super relaxing back-stretch-table-machine that warms up the spine for the adjustments (seriously, this table is SO WONDERFUL!), she adjusted my middle back - CRACK it made and suddenly I felt a rise of energy going through my body. As an avid yoga practitioner I know how much body and emotions go hand in hand, but additionally I learned that because all major nerves run through the spine, basically all inner organs are also connected to a poor posture. After that middle-back crack, she also adjusted my hip and my shoulders/neck and helped to promote the natural curve in my neck - sitting in front of a computer all day and looking down on my phone, my head was hanging down a little and I got headaches on a regular base. Well, that got significantly better through the adjustments! Dr. Lila Wolfe took her time to explain everything in detail and answer all my questions (and believe me, I had a lot of questions!). The best thing though happened in the next few days - my spine suddenly felt all bouncy and wonderful, the stiffness of my spine was gone and I finally could do all the fancy yoga poses I always thought just weren't for me - the unlocking of my middle back sections truly did wonders! Other side effects - I don't feel stiff anymore when I get out of bed in the morning (well, I thought that was just the effect of getting older), I look skinnier (because my hips were tilted forward, my stomach was always pushed out as well - standing up straight suddenly makes me look like a mega babe!), and am so crazily flexible all of a sudden that my yoga teacher is jealous ;) Even though everything feels great even after the first visit, unfortunately the unhealthy habits and muscle memory need a bit more work than that. Of course I continued to sit in front of computers all day, so that I needed more adjustments. If you are looking for a one-time-fix, this might not be for you. However, each time your body get adjusted, it lasts a little bit longer - I've been five times now and feel and act way straighter, are much more flexible, and have learned so much about my body. Her office is in a great location and super easy to get to. The office itself is very relaxing and I could feel my stress going down when I walked in. She began by sitting with me and going over my history, questions, issues, etc. She explained and demonstrated what she does and why she does it. She even took out a spine model. Honestly, no one had ever done that before and it gave me such a better understanding of my pain. She really took the time to get to know me. She takes a more holistic approach and believes that when you treat the spine you are not only treating back pain, but effecting every system in your body. I couldn't agree more. The adjustment itself was amazing. I am officially addicted. SInce I began seeing her my lower back pain and migraines have disappeared. Since then Dr. Jacobs has done a fantastic job of going above, and beyond your average chiropractor to improve my body, and have less pain. Nancy takes the time and care to sit down, and explain how you can actually improve your life, and have less or no pain. Nancy teaches and demonstrates methods such as: how to improve posture, ergonomic devices, nutrition, exercises/stretching, and a lot more. I was rear ended by a 24 foot truck, sustaining serious whiplash. Afterward, my entire body was inflamed, I had trouble standing and walking for too long. I had constant migraines, my thoracic (middle back) was in constant pain, and I could barely turn my neck in any direction. My MRIs revealed that I had several herniated discs throughout my cervical (neck), one herniated disc in my lumbar (lower back). And an EMG test revealed I had a pinched nerve in my thoracic area, and in the right side of my neck. The prescriptions prescribed by my Pain Doctors only disguised the pain, and had terrible side effects. Physical Therapy was not helping much, and there were so many people at their office, there was attention, and all they cared about was billing my insurance. I saw several spine specialists, and all they wanted to do was give me an injection/epidural of steroids. I found Park Ave Chiropractic on the internet when seeking a more holistic natural way to helping my pain. Within the first visit Dr. Jacobs did just so, to help guide me in a more holistic route to be pain free. Nancy's neck adjustments quickly helped alleviate my migraines, and improve my neck pain. Nancy recommended the herbal supplement "Inflammatone," a natural anti-inflammatory supplement to take; instead of advil or prescription anti-inflammatories which can cause stomach/liver and other serious problems when taken too much. The inflammatone not only reduced my inflammation but improved my digestion, which is associated with back pain. In time I found that her techniques used on my thoracic was the only thing that would help the pain. And now, I barely ever have pain in that area. My neck pain has improved a remarkably. One tool Nancy utilizes that I've become a huge fan of, after it saved me from getting surgery is Cold Laser. Unrelated to my car accident, I had an infection on the outer area of my naval (belly button), my MD put me on Levaquin, which I soon found out...I was allergic to. After ridding the Levaquin out of my system, my MD put me on another anti-biotic, and said that if it didn't work I would have to have a surgeon remove the infection...that anti-biotic didn't work! After sharing this with Nancy, she suggested we try Cold laser therapy on the infection...within a month the infection was gone. No surgery for me! Lastly, Nancy is an expert nutritionist. With her nutritional and excersizing advice, and guidance, I have lost 25 pounds (and counting).

In that time, I've been treated by close to a dozen (maybe more) different chiropractors (kind of crazy). Because of these experiences, I have a VERY good gauge of which chiros are good and which ones are "frauds", whether it's their technique, or their professional practice or just too damn rough. Dr. O'Donohue is not only one of the most kind and caring people I know (let alone most caring chiropractor with great "bedside" manner), she's also a true and highly knowledgable professional. I'm constantly impressed with how she customizes my treatment for every new issue I have and not just giving me a generic adjustment and sending me on my way (the latest issue being a herniated disc between L4 and 5. Totally my fault.). If she feels you need strengthening exercises as a form of preventive care, she will spend the time to show you how to do them appropriately. Dr. O'Donohue is all about her patient's recovery and not about how many visits/payments she can get out of each patient, like a lot of other Chiros I've been to. She gives excellent advice on posture, etc. I did find the front desk a bit too pushy with future appointments and also not receptive to my insurance questions I had over e-mail.
