My personal experience was pretty bad. She made false assumptions and accusations right from the start in an email chain with my wife and I. After seeing her one session, she was telling me what I should be doing and what I wasn't doing. She was not asking questions, she was telling me and making accusations, presuming a lot of information and knowledge we hadn't discussed. I let that go, because I needed help. But I should have stop seeing her right then. She continued to seek to use the consoling session to accuse instead of to inquire. It felt like I was being cross examined in a legal case, instead her trying to establish trust and make it a safe environment to help me work through my issues. I wouldn't recommend her. I got very defensive after that, because I did not feel safe, I felt attacked. She couldn't separate herself from our situation, by her own admission, when a consoler is telling you that, run. That means they have their own issues they haven't worked through. It's one thing to have a bad, but professional consoler, than it is to have an unprofessional one that is bringing their on emotional baggage to each session. She even attempted to psychoanalyze my very recently deceased mother's personality traits to abstract some mental diagnoses, and then turn that around against me. My mother passed 01/22/17. She was unprofessional almost from the beginning and ending with her becoming emotional involved and bringing her own emotional baggage to our consoling sessions. She was not helpful, I think she even made the situation worse. read more

I cannot recommend Judith highly enough. This was my first experience with counseling, and to be honest, I was very skeptical and hesitant to go for a lot of reasons. After spending some time with Judith, it was clear that she genuinely cared and her heartfelt concern was above and beyond what I expected. I was devistated when my wife said she was considering divorce, so we decided to go see Judith. Our marriage did not make it, even though Judith did everthing possible to help us - it takes both partners working together. However, the things I learned from her have made me a stronger, healthier person as a result of this divorce. It's funny how catastrophic things can be used as a spring board to becoming a better person, and in the long run, can be good turning points in life - it's such a cliche, but I actually believe that thanks to Judith's help. I cannot thank her enough for everything she did for us. Even though I our marriage didn't make it, my time with her was a success because it made me aware of some things and put me on a road to a much better life. Judith made a bad situation worse. It started in a private session with her unquestionably asking me to be silent during our couples counseling sessions. She said it was because she wanted to "develop trust" with my very skittish partner. So I did. I remained silent - for about a month or more. I sat, while my partner basically had individual therapy with her, all the while thinking and trusting that she was establishing trust with him and that she would suspend any judgement she had about our situation until she had heard both of us - but not the case. When she started asking me to look my partner in the eyes and tell him I loved him, etc., I began to get uncomfortable, because I had my own trust issues with my partner that hadn't even been addressed - in fact, I hadn't said a word yet!! So I made an individual appointment with her to talk about this - not in front of my partner because I didn't want to wreck what trust she had established - and expressed my distress over the situation. When I spoke about what I thought of the situation, she said that she didn't see it like that at all! So much for suspending things while she developed trust. She said that I seemed "resistant" (duh!) - when I had been asked to not say a word! Also, from the beginning, she observed that I had an "expressive face" and asked me to not reflect my feelings so much or we would scare my partner. Then, after sitting there silently and not reflecting anything on my face for a month, she calls me resistant and says that she sees a problem in that I don't show any emotion on my face!! And with that, my partner and I terminated our therapy with her. There are loads of other questionable things that I won't bore you with - similar to a previous review - lots of "women are this way, men are that way" kind of broad statements. All this, and we barely got started - in fact, I didn't get started at all! I think the lesson for me is: never let anyone tell you to be quiet, especially in therapy and especially in couple's therapy! If they request this of you, something is very wrong. Also, I have been in therapy several different times in my life, and I studied some clinical Psychology in college - enough to know what professionalism looks like and why good therapists insist on certain rules regarding confidentiality, boundaries, etc. And I know that therapists are just people too, with their own shortcomings and strengths. So I'll just stick to what I observed. Judith seemed disorganized and had some trouble with double-booking, confusing emails, and the like. She also ate lunch during our sessions - which we consented to - but didn't realize that it would require her going back and forth to the kitchenette and microwave. I think the problem was that she was trying to fit us in over the lunch hour - which was nice - but maybe could have been a lower-maintenance lunch? Not a huge deal though - not a deal breaker like the above. But then also - she had two different rescue dogs come through our sessions, that she was essentially trying to train while we had our session. One actually growled at us. She kept saying how glad she was that we were "dog people" - which is true - but we were there under extremely painful and stressful circumstances, not to mention the exorbitant amount of money we paid to see her, so the addition of a behaviorally-challenged dog and then a puppy was more than we could bare. It is true that we could have said the word and that would have stopped probably, but also - we shouldn't have to ask or be put in a situation where it is distracting to the actual work. I mean seriously. To sum, I think boundaries were bad and she seemed scattered and unprofessional. There were times when she really seemed like a good therapist - she had some really good things to say (to my partner). Maybe individual counseling would be okay if she cleaned up her game? But just walking in there, with the appointment confusion, the dogs, and then my particular dealings with her, I would NOT recommend this person as a couple's counselor. read more

I was dealing with some anxiety after a recent surgery, and I decided to try therapy. I emailed Judith based on her years of experience and the reviews I read here and on her website (this was before the recent handful of suspiciously similar one-star reviews popped up). Honestly, even after I emailed her, I didn't know if I could actually make that first appointment, or make the second one. I don't open up easily to anyone, let alone a person I've just met. But as difficult as it was, after one session, I just felt like she could help me. I remember in the first session, she said her goal was to "work herself out of a job"--meaning, I'd no longer need her. And while we definitely covered the surgery and I was able to make peace with it, I actually stuck around a lot longer to talk about other stuff I'd never addressed in my life. That's how much I trusted her, and considering where I started, that was huge. It wasn't just my anxiety and insomnia that improved, it was every area of my life--my relationships with my parents, my husband, my friends. I have a great set of friends right now, and that's entirely thanks to what I learned in my sessions with Judith about choosing healthier friendships. Then, just when I thought we were drawing to a close, I had a series of difficult losses. Each time, she made room in her schedule for me. And seeing someone who already knew me so well was incredibly helpful in working through those losses. Now, to be clear, is therapy all hand-holding and telling you you're awesome? No. Not if you're in it to change yourself (or your relationship). It's hard. No one wants to take responsibility for the crap in their life. No one wants to hear that maybe WE are to blame for a situation, or that there are fundamental errors in our thinking. Or that maybe our partner is right and we're wrong. And one thing I really appreciated is that in a few instances where I felt like I was being misunderstood, I talked to Judith about it and we arrived at a different place. So...after seeing her off and on for two years, I'd take the negative reviews here with a grain of salt. If you're looking for a therapist, email Judith and setup an initial appointment and decide for yourself. She changed my life for the better, and I highly recommend her. read more

I would recommend Judith to anyone who is looking for pre-marital or marriage counseling in general. She was such a great therapist for my fiance and I. I can actually tell huge differences from when we first met with her to now. My fiance never thought he would get anything out of a therapist and now he wants to make it a semi annual visit. I discovered Judith 2 years ago after I attended her workshop "Living Effectively: How to Build Resilience and Add Joy to your Life". I've seen her since for 2 impactful years and wanted to provide a review. I was surprised to read the recent negative reviews as my experience has been wonderful! If you are really willing to look at yourself and want to improve, she is the person to see. Judith really listens, is empathetic,supportive and affirming. What stood out to me is that she has a direct style and an ability to get at core issues quickly. Judith really challenged me to not avoid issues or make excuses but she was never unkind or judgmental. At the beginning we set measurable goals and regularly assessed my progress with the intent to stop therapy when I felt better and more competent at handling new issues that came up. Judith gave me specific strategies to address every time I hit a wall of indecision or felt too overwhelmed to move forward on a problem. She helped me identify my personal values and look for patterns that kept sabotaging my important relationships. I saw Judith with my partner two years ago. It was a terrible experience, and I thought maybe mine was an isolated incident since she had more positive reviews back then. But now that I've come back to her Yelp listing, I see my experience completely mirrored other people's experience. I feel compelled to share mine, especially since some suspiciously fake ones are popping up recently. Perhaps Judith was a good therapist at one point, but something has obviously changed with her faculties and she's only doing a danger to her clients now. The issues I had with her during my 8 couple's sessions: * Disorganized and Forgetful - often times, more than half the session was catching her up on things in the previous session. * Often would not let me speak and would accept everything my partner said as absolute truth, while dismissing anything I said. * Dogs and Lunch - Seemed not to care for keeping a professional atmosphere. Her dog was distracting to have in the session and she'd eat food (often soup) and use the microwave while in session. She even had me change a light bulb for her once. Totally unprofessional. * Told me that since my partner had more complaints, that I was the one who had to change. She delivered this by saying "I've got bad news for you buddy..." * Personal baggage. She often talked harshly of her son being incapable in life, but that her daughter was so "amazing" and so good "she could be president." (This was the Obama years. The context of that statement has really changed, huh?) I felt bad for her son. * Speaking of Trump, her style actually reminded me of the current president. She talked in exaggerated absolutes - this is the "best way" the "only way," "only someone with my training" - she liked to show off this binder of a John Gottman seminar she attended * Scheduling problems - like someone else mentioned, she would double book appointments causing me to waste PTO at work. I say this with all respect, but I think this provider should retire. You are only breaking relationships more. You made me feel like I was a problem - and no therapist should do that. I had the same experience as Annie and Diego who also wrote a review. She did not help us at all. During our sessions she brought up things that were not relevant to our issues. Which wasted our time. I have been to many counselors and I have my MA in Counseling Psychology. She favored my husband in the sessions - which was fine - I figured she had a plan of some sort. But in the end she just wanted to accuse and confront me and asked me "Do you always have to be right?" It did not build trust with either one of us. Even my husband said he was surprised I kept coming back with him as much as we did. I thought she was unprofessional and did not get to the what was important to us. Judith is AMAZING! My husband and I have seen Judith regularly for about a year, and now see her just every once in a while. The transformation in our marriage and intimacy level is something that I couldn't have even imagined a year ago. We had been to other therapists in the past and found ourselves even more at odds with each other. But Judith does not overlook any detail or waste any of your precious time when it comes to getting your life and marriage to the place you desire it to be. I feel like we owe Judith the world because more than a year ago I thought I was certainly going to be a single mom. We have also referred her to many other couples and everyone that sees her has been very thankful for the great referral. It must be hard to be a marriage councilor. I feel Judith may not be as wise as she thinks. I'm sure she has helped a number of marriages and I know she has made a number worse than they might have been without her. She is the kind of counselor that can make the situation a lot worse than it needs to be. In the beginning she helped, but by the end I could not stand her. I'm no angel, but I never cheated on my (ex)wife and I owned all my flaws and I simply had no idea the absurdity of what Judith was going to put me through; otherwise, I never would've open my mouth about anything. After the divorce was finalized I got a lie detector test to prove to my hi anxiety ex wife that it was just like I told her all along I never touched another woman. But in all fairness, and for all I know, it's all in god's will. But I still couldn't stand the sight of this woman. I'm sure she's a great individual counselor, but I think she might stay away from the couples. Especially those with serious issues. read more

I came to Judith hoping to learn how to improve on one area of my life- something I felt was holding me back from truly being my best self. She was recommended by a trusted friend after a very positive experience with her. From the first session, I knew I had found the right person. Instead, I met Judith... a non-judgement, extremely skilled but laid back professional in a refreshingly peaceful, safe space. 60 minutes later I was walking out of her office completely mind-blown. I had no idea how she did it, but she was able to show me where I lacked personal power and, most importantly, helped me identify when and how this started. By session #2, I felt 100% safe opening up to her- even with things I hadn't shared with others. Her style is collaborative, and nothing is powder-coated- it's like we face things together. Judith has a unique way of reading between thoughts and creating "a-ha" moments from asking the right questions and truly listening to your answers. I was just thinking about Judith the other day as I was drawing on some of the skills I learned from her in a current stressful situation. This statement is what led me to post a review, long overdue. I have experienced many therapist over the years but I have never worked with one that offered me skills that I could draw upon years later. I saw Judith for a short time last year and am still able to pull from the work we did together. Quite frankly, I feel she saved me and provided me with a much needed perspective to my life that no other counselor has ever been able to uncover. She was patient, she was kind, she was proactive and productive. She brought a creativity to our work together that I have never seen in a counselor and created a custom game plan for me to be my best self. This best self is what is making me feel saved because it is allowing me to be a better mother, a better wife, and well a better everything. I have hope now where I once did not. I gained skills that I was able to start using immediately and am still using today over a year later. In fact our whole family has adopted some of the healthy techniques I learned from Judith which makes me feel like I am putting my best foot forward to raise a more confident, more loving, and full of self worth young man. I can not recommend Judith more highly. She is an all-in, highly invested and caring counselor who has an unbelievable gift for seeing your best self even when you can not and helping guide you out of the darkness into a light of confidence and worthiness.
