After all, what kind of kid is going to get excited about beans and health food products? A scary kid, that's who. But now I find myself wandering in and perusing the shelves to have a gander at what they have on offer and feeling quite embarrassingly inspired to start up my new health regime. This shop is a treasure trove of all things healthy for adults. Because when you're an adult and finally understand that although green vegetables may not taste as nice as ice cream, they make you feel good in a very different way; different mainly because it is guilt free. Unless you stole the vegetables, of course. Then you might be an Extreme Beanfreak, and should distance yourself from allotments and groceries at all costs.

Its a real life saver for Cardiff bay dwellers and has all the essentials. It doesn't have a bad fresh selection either, but get there early if you want to pick up lunch time sarnies!

Despite being quite small you can get enough for a quick dinner or snack for lunch etc. It's nice to have something a little more normal at the Bay when your not looking for an upmarket lunch in a restaurant. Avoid at lunch and after office hours if you are in a rush.

There was nothing and now there is Spar, Tesco and Sainsburys all no doubt trying to capture business from all the local workers. Well this branch seems a bit smaller than the one on Queens Street with less general items and more lunch/convenience stuff and one of their brilliant salad bars. I recommend the eggs on toast. I know it's just eggs and toast, but still, it was better than my usual efforts. Plus it's dirt cheap. Sitting in the old Cardiff Market with some egg on toast, reading the paper and watching the hive of activity all happening below you makes it a welcome break from your usual high street shopping and eating experience. The Cardiff Market seems a world away from the likes of St. Mary's Street, Queen Street, and St. David's 2, and it's the atmosphere that does this.

This is an absolutely brilliant Tesco. It seems to stock absolutely everything! It has a great…read moreclothes section upstairs (great prices which are made even better with the regular sales they have), an electrical section (TVs, computers, mobiles etc.), home wares (plates, kitchen appliances, paint etc.) and loads of toys. They've also got a great card section, and an aisle which seems to be dedicated to seasonal specials. You can't help but pick up a few things that you didn't think you needed before you went in. There's also a pharmacy, photoshop and cafe in store. It's a big store, but once you know your way around, your weekly shop is easy. You soon get used to the extra choice, which you miss when you revert to a smaller store. The only down side is the parking. Tesco has drawn other retailers to the site, and at busy periods (like the run up to Christmas) it's impossible to park there. Thank goodness Tesco is open 24 hrs!

It seems permanetly busy and you need to have plenty of time to visit as it will take you ages to walk around the store. All in all this Tesco has a an excellent range of facilities and has the cheap prices you would associate with the name.

God bless the Cornish Bakehouse…read more Sat on the corner of Church Street and the Hayes, between O'Neill's and 10 Feet Tall, the small counter-shop is a beacon to all hungry men everywhere. The pasties come in three sizes, the smallest of which is "Large", so that should give you an idea of the kind of thing we're dealing with here. Serving a selection of pasties filled with everything from chicken and mushroom, to traditional cornish filling and my personal favourite of Steak and Stilton (so good it deserves to be capitalised), alongside pizza slices, pies and wraps, it sends out an amazing smell that captures anyone in five miles with an operating olfactory sense. Granted, the fare is slightly more expensive than Greggs and that ilk and it is still a chain store, so you may feel you aren't quite getting the personal touch you like on your pasties (for my money, I don't want a personal touch anywhere near my pasty. If I can believe it was made entirely by machine and that none of the filling has ever been touched by a large Cornish man named David, I'm happy), but the food is still great and you get what you pay for. Word of warning, though. If you're dating a Cornish girl, never mention that you like this place. They will instantly bludgeon you to death with a pasty they consider properly crimped.

I say walking, she was wobbling a little, not only because it was hot but also because this lady, she we say, has probably struggled with her weight. If I had to guess I'd say she was probably the chunky side of 20 stone. Anyway she was sweating profusely, pain of effort etched on her face as she ambled towards the Cornish Bakehouse whilst clutching a two handfuls of shopping bags. She stopped about 10 yards before pasty heaven and with straining face laid all her bags onto the floor. She then started to holler, "Karen! Donna!" - at this point two slimmer girls about 20 yards ahead of her (beyond the shop) stopped and turned round. She continued her plea, "PASTIES!!!!" She shouted pointed out the Cornish Bakehouse to her 2 mates. Her 2 friends looked at each other looked back at the larger friend and the one shouted, "Come Trace, we've just had lunch!" Tracey, then with a pained look of resignation picked up her bags and struggled past the pasty shop and its wonderful aroma. I know how Tracey feels - I find it hard to walk past this shop and even though the pasties are fresh and tasty - they can never deliver beyond what their smell promises but hey it doesn't stop me finding out.
