I found Kim Childs by doing a Google Search for Life Coaches near me. I had been floundering for a…read morefew years, and grew to be very unhappy with the stagnation in my life after the COVID-19 pandemic. My husband's coworker talked about how he had worked with a life coach in middle age to help him figure out his next steps after an intercontinental move to the US. I read Kim's website and noticed she was associated with Kripalu, is a former yoga instructor, and I was intrigued. I read a bit of her blog and decided to email to set up an introductory phone call. I felt like we connected on the call. She was lighthearted, but helped me move forward with action items in just that one phone call. Before our first meeting, I was really nervous. "Psychotherapy is not effective against self-criticism"…read more I'm not sure who said that but I wrote it down a some time ago. It rang true for me. I had told my therapist many times that knowing the why my unwanted behaviors existed wasn't helping me change them. I needed something actionable. One afternoon, as I procrastinated on the things I needed to do to successfully launch a new business, I realized the palpable anxiety that some things provoked. I researched alternative therapies - tapping, massage, hypnosis, reiki - before I decided on reiki. Lucky for me my first call to a local massage/reiki center went unanswered, because I then looked closer at Cathy's ad and then at her website. She mentions several of the things that I had been researching that afternoon. I made the call and saw her that night. We all suffer from different issues, so, it stands to reason that the solution will be different for each of us. I'm not sure what the ultimate solution will be for me, but I have found a guide in Cathy. I had often thought that the best relationships we have are with people who are great verbal backboards - they help us hear ourselves. She has already proven to be a great backboard - not only to help me hear myself, but also to suggest novel ways to clear the self-hurdles that have been limiting my progress.
