Three aspects that stand out for me. First, she treats us like family. She always takes the time to listen and know our family. Second, whenever we call, whether during the day or evening, we always get to talk directly to Dr. Lavin or Nurse Linda. It's incredible and unique to get our questions answered right away by Dr. Lavin herself, who knows us well, who we trust and respect, and who has saved us from needing to bring our children to the ER multiple times. Third, scheduling appointments is always simple and she has an excellent balance of prescribing medication when needed and encouraging natural methods of healing when possible. We greatly appreciate the care and guidance she provides. Our family has great admiration of and appreciation for Dr. Lavin. She's truly the best!

I arrived, was checked in, and did not have to wait two hours just to be seen! I felt like a child who had good health insurance again....anyway. The NP I saw was everything you would hope for in a clinician - gentle, efficient, competent, friendly, and easy to talk to. They filled my prescription right away, sent my test results quickly, and I'm waiting to see if they call back promptly. Will edit if not.

It feels like talking to a friend. I am very surprised to see a negative review, especially one that says she is difficult to work with through insurance. A few years ago my insurance couldn't figure out how to pay her properly. As I recall, she saw me for several months without receiving payment from my insurance while they were working out their issues. She also went out of her way to speak with me while I was living out of state and trying to find a new therapist. I have only good things to say about Debby's ability and how easy she is to work with.

I was in a really bad place psychologically, but I was thrilled and hopeful about having a therapist I'd heard such good things about. We made an appointment for the next week and appeared to plan on future treatment. However, when she found out my insurance would only cover 12 visits, she told me she would not see me again, despite my offers to pay her full fee, and that she did not like how my health care services worked. A few minutes later in another phone call, she told the person who referred me that she could not take me on, despite what she had told me at the intake. The two different stories made me feel like I was acting crazy, but I am certain of what I heard and what others reported to me. Of course, it is up to the therapist if she can work with you, but the two different stories and her willingness to plan treatment has left me absolutely baffled as to what was going on. If you are suffering from severe depression, she may not wish to treat you and may not be upfront about that. After this experience, I've given up on therapy and feel even more bereft depressed than ever. I considered this a serious lack of professionalism in her unwillingness to communicate honestly with me, or else her unwillingness to accept my out-of-pocket payment. Be very careful. I'm sure many people have had success with her, but the shame and pain that resulted from this experience for a depressed person was just terrible.

She listens to your concerns, answers all your questions, is knowledgeable about many things and will refer you to a good specialist if needed. The resident seeing me along with him even spoke up and disagreed with his statement that he didn't feel my 3 herniated cervical discs are causing my discomfort and that I will not benefit from epidural neck injection being managed by pain clinic. The office manager heard conversation and had to step in to try and help. I left in tears w prescriptions i will not fill and my hope of future better days and pain relief crushed.

Back home I managed to find the best doctor ever- this little Belgian woman who was thorough, funny, and had an office with amazing support staff. I was worried about finding a doctor to meet my very high standards. Most of the time you don't think of the BMC for high quality care- it is located right next to a meth clinic and we've seen the people walking around the South End with their plastic "patient belongings" bags. But then I found the Women's Health Group. It's a group of doctor's completely dedicated to women's health issues. No boys allowed! My very good friend, who is a med student, recommended them to me. I couldn't be happier. I currently see Dr. McKinney. She's awesome. Attentive, caring, and really knows what she is doing. I feel safe and comfortable with her. Now all my girlfriends go to the clinic and all are incredibly happy with their practitioners. The only downside is the scheduling- sometimes it is very hard to get an appointment with the quickness. BMC has a huge patient base and you are competing with a lot of people who need help more than say, my privileged south end ass. But, I was surprised how hard they worked to get me in- all I needed was a script filled and even though I hadn't officially had an exam with the doc they let me come in for a short appointment to get things situated. Regardless of the scheduling this place gets five stars. People deserve ten stars for dealing with me when trying to get my blood drawn. I'm one of those fainters. They had the smelling salts all ready to go.

She's moved to Beth Israel now (which totally bummed me out), but I'm staying at BMC cause it's convenient for me and everyone there is so helpful. I had an urgent issue, called the office, and they squeezed me in the next day, which is like UNHEARD OF.
