    coffee milk shake

Delicious desserts with good coffee. The prices of food are not really affordable to international students though, my friends and I enjoy our special time here. All eight different cakes and tarts I tried were great but my favourite one (caramel one) has unfortunately disappeared from the glass case since last year, I reckon. In this hot and muggy season, their coffee milk shake has to be recommended. It has a good level of sweetness and soothe your thirst.

Was looking to get some quick, yummy and hearty Italian food but it didn't really live up to my expectations. Ragu was terrible. The ragu pretty much seemed like they tossed pulled meat together with tomato sauce. The T-bone steak was decent but over cooked. I must say that the potatoes as well as the caper oil based sauce were phenomenal, but the steak was a little overdone (the boyfriend requested for medium). To make matters worst it took an hour before we received our mains and tough luck because it wasn't really worth the wait.

Pane e Vino has been one of my favourite restaurants in the CBD for years! A girlfriend and I used to religiously have lunch there every Friday and wander back to our office jobs feeling full and jolly. The food is simple, beautiful Italian fare with a wine list that compliments it perfectly. I try to always have something different when I am there, but I find it hard to go past the gnocchi con gorgonzola which, the the freshly shaved parmesan they put on top, always hits the spot. Pane e Vino is great for an intimate lunch date or a group occasion and has staff who manage to handle the busy lunch periods, but stay polite and informative all the same. It's a great place to spoil yourself if you've been working hard. A little word of warning though- being smack bang in the middle of the public servant district of the CBD it can often be hard, especially on a Friday lunchtime or around 5pm, to get a seat. To avoid disappointment I would definitely book in advance, and if it's a nice day it's worth asking the friendly staff for a seat outside.

Friendly waitress but very average food offering despite promise of menu. Cold and draughty inside with no heating despite coldest day outside.

Stumbled across this place and figured I'd give it a try. Great seafood spaghetti. Great service. I'd come back.

Lunch was fabulous. I had, Alla marinara'
    Lana L.

Service was fabulous, very friendly and efficient staff. Ambiance was good. I ordered the Alla Marinara' . Seafood is my favourite food, the dish had lovely strong flavors but the seafood itself could have been better quality. The mussels where very small in their shell. Sorry don't mean to pick but im very fussy with seafood. My partner had the Al Funghi, he said it was nice and fresh.

Came here for my daughters 19th birthday and was very impressed . Warm and friendly welcome, which is always a good way to start , this place is one of the best Italian restaurants I have eaten at for a very, very , long time. The food was fantastic . I had the best seafood marinara I have ever had for a very long time. OMG it even had a lot of seafood in it. My daughter ordered the hot chilli prawn linguini which was also fantastic. She also tried her first Expresso Martinis .

I had the Lucy while my friend had the Coffee Ale. The sizes come in Pony, Mare, or Stallion! My friend loved the coffee ale. I'm not the biggest beer fan but the Lucy was light. We started to chit-chat with the bartenders and they showed us this chili vodka! He had me at "Chili..." My friend had the Bloody Mary and she kept raving how it was tomato soup for adults. She loved it! The bartender was great and nervous about creating a drink for me. We went with a pineapple chili vodka with a touch of mint. Yum! It needs some fine tuning but the foundation is set. We were having a great time and as if beer to vodka wasn't enough, we moved right along to tequila! Yes, some quality tequila and verdita. I'm a huge fan and they explained to us how quality tequila is for sipping. We didn't want to leave but the time had come. Thankfully, I know I'll be coming back very soon. Thanks for a great Introduction.

Instead, I saw the sign for Bean, and having passed it several times, I thought, hey, why not walk through this shady looking garage and dumpster (looked like one) and see what's up? I walked up to a chalked door and a short flight of stairs down into a kitschy, cute, nicely air conditioned cafe, and was greeted by a really eccentric but friendly barista. I was just looking for a cuppa to-go, but was rather tempted to plant myself and look around. The cafe isn't big, but there is a good amount of table space, either to study at or to play the many board games that this place houses! I was quite pleased at their game selection of Cluedo, Scrabble, Jenga, and more! This is also one of the few cafes in Brisbane that provide free wi-fi. So much win! As for the coffee, I've only had their skinny latte, which I do enjoy. For Brisbane, it is definitely good - a bit bold, but not overly dark, like I find the places around here. The coffee has a bit of a fruity or nutty aftertaste - I can't quite tell (must have it again!), but I would definitely have it again. I wasn't sure if they had food to offer, as I only saw some cupcakes on display, but it looked like they might serve sandwiches... Alleyway cafes seem to be very characteristic of Brisbane's hip cafes, and although my friends know me to always find these places with shady entrances, quite a few of them turn out to be good, if not intriguing! All in all, this is one of my favorite places so far - the ambience, board games, free wi-fi, and the barista!

Mind you, the leather couch was low, soft and comfy. The decor features framed vinyl, artwork and various skate decks from different hardcore, metal and punk bands i.e. Amity, This is Hell, etc. I feel like this place should feature gig posters promoting the hardcore scene. I'm sure there'll be more over time. There's a few alternative music magazines on a table for reading. As a fan of hardcore music, I like this place a lot down to the graffitied walls and pin-up art. The music is loud and heavy and I like it. I can imagine a few people would complain. Not the place to come for a meaningful conversation or to write your novel. No food yet, but there's plans to get a small range of muffins to munch on along with your coffee. Coffee is currently $4 for a large. We visited around 10.30pm at night. Death Before Decaf is the latest addition, located on Brunswick Street New Farm, open for about 1 week. The name describes how I feel and react when I hear people order "Decaf". Seriously? It's like ordering chocolate, and asking don't add the chocolate. Death Before Decaf is the kind of place Brisbane needs, because its open 24/7, and we don't too have many places, if any, open for the long haul to service the needs of an ever demanding caffeine addicted public. The décor is edgy, with a twist of tattoo, punk, metal, street, and some cool graffiti-esque artwork on the wall. The vinyl, posters of hardcore metal, skateboards adorning the wall, all add to their rockstar feel. The comfortable leather couch and deer head on the wall seems out of place and more at home at a venue like Alfred & Constance, but I like the over-all aesthetics of the place. They serve Bellissimo Coffee (The Ultimo), which I actually drink at home too, so I do like the coffee. Due to the limited seating available, this place works well for take-away coffees, and at $3.50 for a small sized cup, is well worth it. Hardcore heavy-metal music isn't my thing, but I'm still a fan of Death Before Decaf. Good news is that Snacks will make their way to the Death Before Decaf counter in the coming months, so looking forward to that!
