Today's special, spaghetti with chicken, pistachio nuts, spinach and a touch of chillies.

I visit Brisbane on a monthly basis at the moment, and Verve is always a good option for a quick simple and tasty meal with a nice glass of cider. It has been here like forever, I remember visiting 12 years ago! It can be a bit tricky to find, just head inside and down the stairs. Staff are friendly, servings of a range of pasta's generous, fresh and quick. Try the daily specials!

Would never of walked into this basement restaurant off of the street - so thanks yelpers! Amazing meal the bruschetta to start was simple one of the best I've had - no lie! Crab and snapper risotto was amazing but a little rich for my taste buds but can't fault it. Cider list is next level so go get your scrumpy on! 10/10 in my opinion

We love cider so naturally Verve has been a local favourite for us for quite some time. Somewhat hidden down in the basement of the Metro Arts building this place has that darkened "underground" almost Berlin-esque (it's probably the red walls) feel to it that once you enter makes you kind of forget that you're in the middle of the CBD. Cloistered away from the hustle of street level Verve is a great place for coffee catch-ups, dinner dates, after work drinks or general cider-swigging merriment. They have a very drinkable and tasty Westons cider on tap along with a selection of 60+ ciders to satisfy the most avid cider fan. The place is run by awesome guys who are always friendly and most than willing to chat cider with anyone who is so inclined - tried one of the BEST EVER cider's I have ever tasted at their behest - Black Dragon from Wales, you must try it people seriously. Verve is a awesomely laid back venue that offers a wide selection of drink (there is also wine and beer - I just love the cider) and a modern Italian menu that comes out in large portions for very reasonable prices. Chilled atmosphere, good food, populated by mostly inoffensive locals and staff who always love to have a laugh - it's easy to find that you've been there for hours without noticing.

I just love this place. The atmosphere is always cheery and being underground makes it that bit different. The service has always been excellent when I've been there, friendly, fast, and they seem to genuinely care about your experience. And the food... Their pizzas are absolutely delicious. The roast pumpkin is my favourite. Mix all this in with some amazing ciders, many Australian, and you've got one fabulously good meal!

Lots of art and private alcoves

Just had lunch at Verve, and after not being here for a few years, my opinion has not changed at all, they still are amazing. Waitstaff were friendly and attentive. Food was cooked to perfection, my Calamari salad was not only brimming with calamari, it also was full of flavour! Think juicy sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese, fresh rocket and baby spinach, with a lovely aioli dressing. My partner in food crime today had 'the best pizza' she's ever had, with the chicken pizza with marinated fetta, roast capsicum, caramelised onion, thyme and parmesan. We both indulged in Hillbilly Ciders which are crisp flavoured and not too dry not too sweet. And did we have to wait long? Nope not at all. This place gets 5 stars from me for consistancy, service, flavour and for supporting local artists as a bonus (seriously go check out the art, which is all for sale). I will be back, hopefully it wont take me so long to get there again.

I will always have such a fuzzy place in my heart for Verve! It was the very first restaurant I went to with friends at 18 that I ordered a glass of wine with dinner. Such fond memories! The best part about Verve is that you can go there no matter what mood you're in and no matter who you're with. It's perfect for after work drinks, a weeknight dinner with friends, and even a not-so-quiet Friday night date. There are group tables for larger parties and smaller tables around secluded corners for a little cheeky privacy. I just love Verve because it has so much to offer! It has an underground vibe (probably because it's down a flight of stairs just off Edward Street) and a really funky, modern atmosphere. There's always interesting art on the walls that you can enquire about and purchase, and there's happy hour! There's a range of fantastic menu options including pasta and pizza made from the freshest ingredients. Top it off with a glass of wine or a vodka; you have your choice at Verve. It's a brilliant, bustling atmosphere here and it's got my seal of approval forever more.

Cheesy, rich, and a bit too heavy for me, but it still tastes great.

This place has a fantastic atmosphere, great for an outing with colleagues or just hanging out with friends. If you're looking for a light meal I would stay away from their entrees. Their risottos are delicious but incredibly rich. The servings are quite sizeable too so you could share if you wanted to. They have a great selection of ciders, I didn't try any but my friends enjoyed theirs! The place was quite busy around 7pm, so get in early if you don't want to wait long for your food.

I recently went to Verve for a Christmas party and was reminded of why I really like this vibrant inner-city eatery. It has a bustling feel during a busy lunch trade, which adds a cosmopolitan vibe, with the only downside being that it does get unpleasantly noisy. Perhaps a few soft wall hangings among the art pieces could help with this... The food is modern Italian in flavour with pizza, pasta and risotto plus a couple of fish and steak options on the menu. I had the chicken Caesar salad which was very good. If I had to make a criticism, the poached egg could have been a little less cooked. A friend allowed me a bit of their snapper and sand crab risotto which was fresh and delicious! Verve is more than just a restaurant, in keeping with its location beneath the Metro Arts Centre they have a strong arts offering. They regularly exhibit pieces by local artists (most are available for sale) and also feature live music nights. When the sun goes down you can really get intimate with their formidable collection of ciders. Boasting 40+ different varieties, they can pretty safely boast the 'biggest in Brisbane' tag. Try the Swedish 'Rekorderlig' fruit-infused ciders, with flavours such as wildberries and strawberry & lime making everyone's favourite alcoholic apple drink that little bit more delicious.

It can get quite warm downstairs so we booked for an early table, ordered a bottle of sparkling wine for the table and it was warm they did replace it with a chilled bottle, we had a bread basket for four and it was well sized for the two of us, the mains were a large portion quite delicious but had a few things in it that was not expected like Arugula and thyme in a Sweet Potato Risotto and the service was attentive and quick.

Jam-packed with people of all ages from all the countries the beautiful world has to offer. Only catch is, you can only get in if you're a traveller or student (ID/Passport required) and if you're a girl. Although we have snuck the odd guy in with a bunch of girls with much success. It helps if you know the bouncer. They play music with the likes of Love Shack, Horny, Addicted to Bass and a lot of songs popular all over the world with the kids in the 90s era. They do go back to Dancing Queen and Mr Wendal as well and boy can you boogy to the tunes of this place. Be prepared to have some form of alcohol spilt on your fancy clothes every time you go there. Be prepared for people dancing on tables (even though they've banned it). Be prepared to body squish your way from the dance floor to the toilets and then back to the dancefloor with very willing body squichers - usually from Braz-eeeel (Brazil) and write a note on the wall to your ex-lover in the toilets and pretty much throughout the whole bar, on the walls, on the furniture... everywhere. Leave your memory here for free. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts, yes it's not posh, it's rather backpackery... but that's how we would like it to stay. Join in the songs with your hearts and hands and sing and dance to the wee hours to an awesome DJ with various glow in the dark articles through his hair. People have fun here, and that's what being young and travelling the world is supposed to feel like. Footloose and fancy free.

But the layout of the place is even better! It is a basement bar, half of it outside and the other half kind-of-inside. The food is good, not amazing, but you can't expect amazing in such a central, tourist-y area. I had the wings and they're a solid 8/10, at least. Service was great too. However, like most of the pubs in the CBD, this one does close quite early (though late enough that I was able to slip in here for a drink one night). There is nothing fancy or flash about this pub - expect the standard beers on tap - no craft beers. It also has a pokies area and a bistro, though there is a pool table tucked away in one corner. The beer garden is pretty cool as well, but unfortunately for the smokers it is not the designated smoking area. During the day it does get fairly crowded (though I have never noticed anybody out in the beer garden, despite it being a pretty nice day), but it was fairly quiet when I was there.

But sometimes it's good to get reckless and a bit silly over some beers and some really, really terrible love music. Irish Murphy's doesn't necessarily have bad music (I'm also a sucker for an accent, especially Irish) but they certainly have the collective crowd keen on getting drunk and roaring along to an inaudible and stereotypically perfect karaoke song. Maybe it's the fact that Irish Murphy's adopts an appearance actually like an Irish pub, but I can't help but have a little fondness for it. I have to search for the fondness a little but believe me, it's there. It's just an ideal place to gather around a table and sling back a few casual (or not so casual) beers and get a little messy and fun. And when you've had a few, who can't join in with the crooning and tuning of the blokes on stage? The beer's fairly cheap, the company's not half bad, and the entertainment isn't sot stale either. I'm not trying to sound begrudging here, because like I said, I do have a soft spot for Irish Murphy's. I just like to be with a larger group of people and get a little silly in the name of fun. If you're after slurry banter and Irish accents, Irish Murphy's is the place to be.
