    Jumong Samgyupsal
    Joey R.

Craving for Korean after a night of drinking in the Poblacion area? Head over to Jumong! Unlike the other Korean restaurants in the area, this is open 24 hours, everyday. Woot! Don't expect this place to be "high-end", it's your typical Korean restaurant in Makati. That being said, I've checked the comfort room. It's... OK. Anyways, this is a good place to go with friends to eat, drink, and gossip until late. Their food is good and they offer beer, soju, and, my personal favorite, makkoli! The food here is not buffet style. So, sorry, this is not an unli-samgyupsal place. But, they do serve the Korean food favorites: Samgyupsal, Bibimbap, Kimchi Jigae, and Kalbi Jim. Also, they serve very good banchan! They only have a few tables inside but, if you arrive here late in the evening, there will always be a table available. By the way, if you need a hangover cure, ask they for the Spicy Beef Soup. You'll feel better and ready for another round of drinks! :P

Banchan options are good at Jumong, they're also refillable!

I am so happy I finally got to try this place! Found tucked in one of the narrow streets of Poblacion (also known as that area past Rockwell), I kept passing this restaurant on my way home. Thanks to a spontaneous dinner invitation, we found ourselves walking from Rockwell to Don Pedro St. Mind you, it's a considerable walk but it was definitely worth the effort. The restaurant is small with maybe 7 table inside and 4 more outside. It was full of patrons when we arrived. It was immediately clear why it was such a popular spot, they have all of our Korean food favorites. We had the thin sliced pork belly /samgyupsal (P280), sliced beef /Chadol bak-yi (P380) and the spicy beef soup /yukgae jang (P250) and a generous serving of appetizers. You can ask for refills too! You can ask the server to cook the meat to your liking, I personally prefer the meat crispy for added texture when I wrap it in the lettuce. The spicy beef soup was a revelation. Served with a cup of rice on the side, it was not overly spicy, but definitely rich, flavorful and with heaps of vegetables. The best thing about this restaurant may just be that it's open 24 hours. It's definitely a good option after a night of drinking or even just a long and stressful day spent in the office. As with all Korean restaurants, prepare to fork over P50++ for soda or alcoholic drinks but that's really just a small price to pay for some good food.

    Oh my, ban chan!

It's open 24 hours. 7 Days a week. Korean Food. SAM GYUP SAL. Korean hole-in-the-wall restaurants are probably one of the priced gems in and around P. Burgos. I frequent Z Roofdeck a lot and I've been seeing Jumong whenever I make a turn to Don Pedro Street. So one night, after Slowdown Sundays at Z Roofdeck, my friends and I decided to indulge and have a Korean feast! Jumong is really one of the best that I've tried in Makati! From the outside it looks like a house (just like most Korean restaurants in the area), so you have to pay attention to the signs. Thankfully, they have colourful labels from their menu plastered outside. It won't be easy to miss during the day. If anything, your Korean food trip wouldn't be complete if you don't even order any variety of Sam Gyup Sal (P280). Their selection of ban chan (Korean side dish) are great as well! I have to say they have one of the best kim chi variants out there! The only thing I dislike about dining here is that there's a limit to the ban chan goodies that you can avail. GIVE ME UNLIMITED BAN CHAN PLZ I BEG YOU AND I WILL STAY THERE FOREVER~~ We also tried Kim Chi Chigae (P250) and Kim chi Bokum Bap (P250). The Kim Chi Bokum Bap was really spicy! Which I liked a lot. It wasn't too tame and wasn't too extreme either. If I could marry a Kim Chi dish, this would be it. I'm really looking forward to eating more at Jumong since I hang out at Don Pedro Street a lot now! I can't wait for their food and my taste buds to reunite!

Parang I've never really found one that can compare to hers. Naks! But just a while ago, I think I found the second best barbeque in the world - Maya's Delicious Barbeque! A pretty straightforward and vain name, don't you think? But I think it's just apt. The barbeque WAS delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed the one stick I had prior to actually getting my real lunch. If they were offering rice or if they just had chairs, I would've ordered 5 pieces of those magical grilled meat and thank the inihaw gods for opening my eyes to the wondrous creation of Maya. What makes Maya's barbeque truly delicious is the sweet-tangy marinade the meat is coated with. The barbeque is also super tender and because they grill it for a while before handing the stick to you, the meat isn't hard to bite on. I literally could have this anytime of the day! The great thing about Maya is that they actually allow bulk orders. So if you're looking for a legit barbeque caterer, I would recommend Maya. They also sell frozen barbeque so that's another option. They also sell Isaw (pork and chicken), Grilled Liempo and Chicken barbeque.

While waiting for my mom inside the car, I got hungry and saw this barbeque stand in the parking area. I ordered one stick of their barbeque just to try it out and ended up buying a dozen for our dinner that night. Just like how they branded their barbeques, it was indeed delicious. Sadly when Cherry Foodarama closed down and was replaced by S&R, Maya's Delicious Barbeque also had to relocate and I'm glad that they relocated somewhere still near my area. You can order a small or big one for less than 50 pesos per stick. I love that they intertwine the pork and fat in one stick. The marinade they use is superb and the pork is tender. If you're on the hunt for good barbeques, do drop by Pioneer Centers parking lot and get some Maya's.

Their isaw is orange, which is prettier to look at (heheh), and they don't overcook the isaw like Mang Larry's often does. My street food of choice is isaw manok, and I haven't found another isawan that serves anything as good as what they have here. The stall directly next to it sells fishballs and kwek-kwek, so hanging out on that lawn with a mere fifty pesos will get you very far. Pair your street food with some refreshing buko juice, and you'll understand why this is a UP student's standard meal. It's not just cheap; it's actually really good! The stalls moved from the empty lot right across Law to the one next to it. The old location is now a parking lot, and while the new one allows several cars to park as well, the ground is much more uneven and rocky. Girls, leave your heels at home!

For a restaurant at a high end BGC area, the ambiance of this place is also a bit off and on the low end side. Will come back here only if it's the only choice I have.

I personally liked the feel of the place because it was casual but homey at the same time, without being cheesy. With statement posters adorning the walls and chalkboards advertising their specials, I knew I was going to like it here. We decided to share an order of their super duo which had ribs for two and a choice of two side dishes. I was happy to see that they offered spinach as a siding so I got that, while my dad ordered their spiced rice. Goodness gracious, it was good! The meat was tender, almost falling off the bone and their sauce is really good, a good balance of tangy, sweet and smokey flavor. While my Dad got their brewed iced tea, as drink and dessert, I got their chocolate shake which I enjoyed not just because of the taste, but also because of the candy sprinkles and marshmallow toppings. I wouldn't mind a good rub and ribs at Rub Ribs anytime soon.

Bulalo is beef soup made by cooking beef shanks and marrow bones until it becomes a clear broth. Sinigang is a mouth watering braised pork soup using Tamarind as a main souring ingredient. Now, what is Kansi? Kansi is a cross between Bulalo and Sinigang; it's Ilonggo's version of Bulalo. For me, it's the best of both worlds! I love the clear beef broth with the hint of sourness. Pat Pat's Kansi is found in a humble, residential area and it is visited not only by people living in the neighborhood but people who live all the way from Alabang go here to eat Kansi. I'm just lucky that Pat Pat's is literally a few blocks away from Carlo's house. (All the soup I want!) You have 2 choices in the way you want the soup served: Kansi Bulalo (with the bone) or Kansi Laman (no bone, just the beef meat). I always get the Kansi Laman when I'm sharing with others (plus, it's the cheaper option at only Php145). But, when I need to feel extra better after a "bad day," I order the Kansi Bulalo. There's something about eating hot soup with gelatinous bone marrow. *drools* My favorite combo is the Kansi Laman with grilled pork belly. When I'm extra hungry, I also order their Chicken Paa + Chicken Isol (Chicken tails). Wash it all down with Fresh Buko! YUM!
