great place fabulous barber Dave and Kai both do their best to please everyone. I am a lady with very short hair so the best place for me is a barbershop. A barber is the only one who knows really well how to cut short hair. Although this shopused to be across the street, it had a different owner and Dave used to work there but now, he bought the business and he's doing very well. I just left the new junction barber shop (formerly main st) in Belford and NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!! I went in for a hair cut and hot shave. The barber cut my hair crooked Forgot I was getting a shave the proceeded to shave me face with a buzzer. I said I called for a hot shave he said oh OK Then put cold shaving cream on my face and did a lousy job not even using the blade. I asked are u gonna use a hot towel or some alcohol, he said I don't know. It was at that point I knew I had to just leave They were not good at all. I have to go home and shave myself. So I have really never gone out of my way to review anything on Facebook or yelp. But I felt like I should share my experience mostly because it was a bit unnerving for various reasons. So though it's totally my fault that I waited to the last minute to get a haircut before meeting I did not expected it to go as badly as this. With an hour or two to go I knew I had to drive south and my normal barber was way north. I had zero time. I looked for reviews of barbershops in the general area and chose two that happened to be very close to each other I went by the first one (swagger)and it was full... So I walked across the street to the second one which was ,save for a younger kid in the first chair, fairly empty. I probably should've known that to be an indicator of what was to come. I walk in and sit down and probably sat there for a good 6-7 minutes before the first barber (guy with cool tattoos) who was cutting a young kids hair had to no verbally prompt the one of two other men sitting in a barber chair (third from the door) and the chairs for customers respectively. He gets up and asks me what I'm looking for and is seemingly is relieved that I'm only asking for a shape up. Truth be told I said shape up because I automatically got the feeling that one of two things were happening: He either did not feel like cutting my hair more than a shape up or anything if given the option. Or he didn't WANT to cut my hair or shape up or anything if given the option. From an empathetic standpoint I know which when I felt But I knew I had to get something done to my hair before I drove. I sit in the barber chair he proceeds to give me the closest thing I've ever seen to a pantomime lineup In life lol. It was nonexistent... There were moments where he was just waving with clippers over an area of my face but not actually making any contact not even with long strands of hair. Truth be told it felt like he did not want to touch me or it felt like he did not know what to do with a black guys hair. Both are entirely possible... However I find it incredibly hard to believe that someone who was trained as a Barber was only taught how to cut one type of hair. I would legit started sweating that's how awkward and nervous I felt about what was going on in the barbershop. It got progressively more uncomfortable. He finished I paid my money... Even giving a tip because though I was ridiculously Unsatisfied with what happen I'm also not going to be responsible for taking money out of somebody else's mouth simply because they may or may not be able to or equipped to deal with certain situations in their profession. Knowing I was never going to go back there again would be more than enough. I understand the demographic of the area I live in. So all of this could be just from lack of experience in regards to a black person's hair. However I recommend at the very least greeting a person a little more warmly so he does not walk out of there feeling like something happened to him that might've been wrong. I'm not saying that's the case for me because I'll chalk it up to poor customer service and leave it at that. However there are other people who will quickly see something else and it becomes a bigger problem and a black mark (pun intended) upon the reputation of the business if not now at some point. read more

Wouldn't really recommend this place. Only went once, I asked for a little taken off the top and a 3 on the sides and ended up getting my hair cut extremely short. It also costed $16 for a haircut when I usually pay $9 where I usually go. read more

Preface: I am NOT a picky person when it comes to my hair. I was military for 9 years and would just buzz for the most part (maybe throw a fade in there). I've never been to a salon in my life and really just expect neatness. That being said, I've never been so motivated to leave a bad Yelp review. This is my first review ever and I intend on writing a great one after this just to balance things out. My usual barber was out of town and i really needed a cut, so i took a chance and googled a place. I get to the spot and see 2 shops within 20 feet of each other. I have no knowledge of either place and based mostly on my parking spot and the fact that this place had a huge sign out front that said "$15 Hot Shave" out front ( I've always wanted an old school hot shave) I picked Main Street Cutters. I walk in, there are maybe 6 barbers, no customers...I sit down with some big fat guy (not that that matters, but he was so why leave it out of the story) I explain what I'd like, "I part may hair to the right, buzz it a little on the sides, clean it up in the back. Basically how it looks now, just neater. Nothing fancy. And oh yea you guys do shaves too right? "No" "Oh, because you know there's a huge sign out front that says you do soooo..." "Oh, no, we don't" "...Alright then?" Great conversationalist we got here... Now I'm no expert, but I've been getting my hair cut for 27 years, and I think you're actually supposed to cut the hair after running a comb through it? Maybe wet it a little? This guy was snipping basically nothing. Barely used the clippers. 5 minutes, $17, and a $3 dollar tip later (yea I still tipped) I'm left looking maybe 5% less shaggy and with a blatantly uneven haircut. Assuming one of the other five guys chillin and joking was an owner or manager, I'd be embarrassed to have somebody walk out of my shop like that. In conclusion, You want a good haircut? Walk right past Main Street Cutters 15 more steps and get a cut at Swagger Barber Shop, same place that corrected my head and did it for 5 bucks cheaper, also where I'll be leaving a 5 star review. read more

This shop has some of the best barbers around. I've been going to these guys my entire life. Highly recommend!
