I had a pretty crummy experience at June today, the Edina location. I went in with about 15 Karen Millen dresses and blazers, sizes 8 and 6, freshly dry cleaned and in very good condition. The owner (I assume she was the owner) looked them over while I looked around the store. When I went back up to the front, all she said was, "I'll pass." I was a bit surprised, so I said, "Can I ask why?" She said, "They have a strong dry cleaning smell, so maybe if you put them in the backyard or something." (I smelled them again and I honestly don't smell anything, but whatever.) I said, "Okay, so if I do that... is there anything here you'd take? Because I don't want to do all of that and lug everything back and you're just not interested." She very curtly said, "I don't know, I didn't really look." No smile, no "thanks for coming in." (Her associate who was working there was nice.) The whole time, she was just very curt and abrasive with me. And even though I was there to try to sell clothes, if she had treated me like that if I had walked in there to buy clothes, I would have NEVER bought anything from her. I definitely would have felt unwelcome and walked out. My negative review is not based on her decision not to buy my clothes. That's totally her decision - I was disappointed, but that's fine. My negative review is based on how she treated me. I felt she was very rude to me the whole time. I will not try to sell anything there anymore, nor will I go in to buy anything either. My mom had driven by this place months ago and insisted to me, repeatedly, that when I came home to visit we just HAD to stop by. It's across the street from our all-time favorite ice cream shop, Crema, so it's not as if she had to twist my arm. However! It took us several tries, due to their 6pm closing time, before we finally got in. I geeked out big time, I'll admit it. Minneapolis is the best, I repeat, the BEST city for vintage clothing (affordable, and otherwise) and June is a great addition to my usual rotation of secondhand stores. The owner, Daune, is really sweet, and the dressing rooms have two very important elements: red velvet curtains and flattering light. CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE SHOE RACK OH MAH GOD IT IS AMAZING. Seriously. For serious. Seriously. No, I'm really serious about this: Manolo Blahnik, D&G, Marc Jacobs, Ferragamo, Christian Louboutin, Te Casan...most run for less than $100 and are presented beautifully on high, white shelves in the back room. Great purses and wallets (Vivienne Westwood...oooooooooh), though those will cost you a pretty penny. The clothing racks are full of great finds, albeit some questionable ones (what is a Guess? denim miniskirt doing next to Oscar de la Renta?), but there's no way you'll leave here empty-handed. I'm on the fence about June, but I have to go with a solid A-OK for now. The positives are that it's a very pretty store, the items are high quality (no broken seams or zippers) and the prices are indeed much cheaper than you'd pay full price. The about half of the stuff on their website is droolworthy, as Jillian C says (Chanel bags, Kate Spade boots, etc.). They also host events and shopping happy hours, which is always a plus in my book. So I like the store in theory (designer consignment? YES,PLEASE), but I haven't been impressed with the merchandise during the few times I've stopped in. Aside from a pair of boots that I know are from this season and a plain solid knit scarf that was really cute (Marc Jacobs, I think), I didn't see anything that caught my eye. I don't knock off stars just because a boutique isn't my style, but I guess I found a good amount of the clothing a little dated too---not in a what's-old-is-new-again vintage way though. On the bright side, it's consignment so everything rotates and I'm bound to find something to take home eventually. Considering the rave reviews and the fact that I adore quite a few of the items on their website, maybe I just always come on an off-day. I went into June with an optimistic perspective, based off of the reviews from Yelp. However, my experience was different. The selection is nice, however the initial customer service I received was not great at all (the owner was the only one working). I purchased a gold Chanel chain belt, and as I was taken to check out the owner began to question me. She began asking me, where I lived, where I worked. This is the OWNER basically how I can afford a $1,000+ Chanel belt, honestly I'm ashamed. This is profiling, wrong, and an embarrassment. I can say, without question, that June properly prepped me for a week-long foray into Manhattan. I packed almost every piece of clothing I've ever purchased from June into an Iranian-princess-sized suitcase last week and prayed that I was going to pass sartorially in the city that prides itself on its style sense. I passed. Big time. I got a bazillion compliments on my clothes, and enough dirty stares that I began to pleasantly assume the ladies of NYC were wicked jealous I had compiled such a fierce wardrobe. I am the queen of consignment shopping...60% of my closet is gently used Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Prada, YSL, and Burberry and at least 40% of those items have come from June. It's ballin' on a budget, y'all. I'm gonna be upfront about something...this store does not cater to the curvy and that sucks. But that's really not the owner's fault, because designers are jerks that way. If you're larger than a size 8, you probably won't find a ton of hidden treasures for a wedding, job interview or a date night - but don't fret, my Marilyn Monroe-esque sisters, because this store has purses, belts, and shoes galore too. And you don't need to be a runway size 2 to buy an awesome Prada or Chanel bag. So suck it, fashion industry. The prices are reasonable considering what the market value is for the labels they consign. Apparently the owner spends her time hitting up all of the amazing consignment stores in NYC (and probably Chicago) and she's here to pass the savings onto you. The employees are helpful and enjoy making small talk, they'll even zip you up if you've got T-Rex arms like I do. The dressing rooms leave something to be desired, if you've got a shitty sense of balance or like to shop a bottle of wine deep...you might fall out of the curtain in nothing but your fancy shopping panties and "good" bra. Just a warning. For the men (or lesbians): this is a great place to buy your girlfriend/wife an expensive gift without hurting your wallet. Don't buy her clothes though, nothing is worse than the fight that ensues after you give your woman a dress that's too big for her. Don't do that. Ever. From the second your stilettos hit that beautiful wood floor, you know you're going to find something fantastic. The goods here make you feel like a million bucks, and make your friends say, "Where did you get that?" If you love designer duds at too-good-to-be-true prices, June needs to be one of your "go-to" shops. You can count on June to always have plenty of two things that a fashionable woman needs: well-made classics, and unique statement pieces. At June, I've scored both black wool Prada pants that are cut to perfection, as well as funky Danish harem pants that never fail to score compliments. Don't skip the shoe room; it's magical. The black patent Manolo Blahnik "Sex and the City Urban Shoe Myth" Campari pumps I got at June (for a "Really, are you sure that's marked right?!" low price) are an all-time favorite of mine. Prada, Pucci, Louboutin, Cavalli, Dior, Chanel, Versace, LV, Hermès, Gucci... they're all here, and more. Also here are many labels you've never heard of, but that will soon be your new favorites because the owner here has such a keen sense of style. I hate going into a store with high end designer pieces and everything is a size 00, don't you? Not the case here, tons of ideas for "guest of wedding", dates, and everyday staples. This is by far the best shop in the Twin Cities - resale or otherwise. Here you can find clothing from every major designer Alexander McQueen to Zac Posen at prices that are friendly to your wallet. The shoes are amazing: Chloe, Manolo, Louboutin, Chanel, Marc Jacobs (my favorite!) and the list goes on. My most recent purchase included an AMAZING vintage clutch for only $20 ... you can't beat that! The store only accepts items that are in excellent condition - no rips, stains, etc. And, unlike other consignment stores, they accept clothing from any season. A lot of the clothes are classic vintage. If you work it right, the outfit/item can appear modern and stylish. This is MN, not LA or NY where you can expect to find used/consignment items that's a few months old. The website gives you a good idea of what they carry. It's a good place to go if you need and want unique piece of clothing for a special occasion or don't want to look like the norm. The shop is clean and spacey although parking is a drag (good note: no meters = free parking). There's a rack for each of the categories (dress, shirts, pants, etc). There's a 'separate' area for just shoes, which I thought is kinda cute/unique. They truly carry higher-end, but again more vintage items, meaning no JCrew, Banana, Loft, etc. I've always liked smaller boutiques and this is that, at an affordable price. The salesperson was very helpful. It's almost as if you get your own 'personal shopper.' I've been to Fashion Avenue in Edina several times and the customer service is horrendous. June is the best upscale resale shop around. What sets June apart is how well curated the shop is. While not everything in the shop will be a style that works for me, everything there will be interesting and high quality. The shop itself is stylish and feels inviting, and because the inventory is so well edited, you won't spend forever pawing through racks but will find the pieces that are meant for you and likely will leave with a beautiful addition to your wardrobe. The service has always been great, too--attentive and friendly, but not hovering. Daune (the owner) is very friendly and interesting, and everyone else I've dealt with in the shop has been welcoming and helpful as well. I'm a student teacher on an ant-sized budget. I covet beautiful clothes, and this store allowed me not only try them on, but actually purchase them. I got a gorgeous Thomas Pink women's dress shirt for $15. AMAZING. Everything is beautifully chosen -- only the nicest pieces make it in, and the care the owner takes is apparent. I have shopped several times at June, and have never bought a thing--I'm an avid shopper and serious about fashion, but I just don't find things I want. The store is cute enough, but the selection has been weak every time I've been in the mood to buy something. Typical labels for sale include Michael Michael Kors, Calypso, Saint Grace, Sanctuary, a few of the dress labels from Anthropologie, and a very occasional Delman, YSL or Chloe (although these were not spectacular). I suppose the prices are good if you do find something: a Hanii Y dress was $135, a Jay Godfrey blazer was $65, and a few jeans were around $50. I think I know why there isn't as much really good stuff to choose from as I hoped there would be: recently, I decided to try selling some things, and I was blown away by how low the store owner's offer was. I brought in three 3.1 Philip Lim dresses (two were new with tags), a lambskin leather jacket from Nordstrom (never worn), some brand new shoes, and a Robert Rodriguez coat. Retail price for these items was well over $2200 total. The offer was for $150. That's right: 7% of the original retail price. Don't get me wrong: I know the mark-up on apparel is huge (I used to be a sales manager for J. Crew), and I have taken things to re-sale places before, so I know the offers aren't usually more than 20% of retail. But $150?!? When I balked, the owner told me she'd rather I leave than take an offer I thought was too low, because she didn't want the "bad press." Uh-huh. And frankly, my experience with that owner (Dawn or Daune) was the worst part of my visit. When I entered the store, there were no other customers. I approached her, and instead of taking the load of things from me, she just pointed to a rack and told me to hang them myself. She didn't ask my name, she didn't welcome me or ask if I was a new customer, she just turned her back and went back to turning on the stereo. A few minutes later two other customers entered, and it was clear that they knew her; instead of looking over my items, she stood and gossiped with them while I took laps of the store. It took more than 30 minutes for her to go through 9 items (all of which were in impeccable condition). When I tried to negotiate with her regarding the low offer, pointing out that she was offering me well less than 10% of the retail value, she just shrugged and bagged my things back up and told me to go to Buffalo Exchange or Clothes Mentor. Maybe it was my mistake to think that since she's advertises for high-end items she would offer to buy them for a higher percentage than these other places pay. But based on the prices on similar labels/types of items for sale in the store, she stood to make easily 400% profit on the items I brought in, and that's WAY beyond what I consider fair. I thought it would be nice to get a check on the spot, but not for $150! So I took the items to Fashion Avenue on France Ave (less than a mile away), put them on consignment, and have made $400 within two weeks (and that was for only 4 of the 7 items included in her $150 offer). So, if you have nice things to sell and can wait a little while to make money on them, don't waste your time at June. You'll make significantly more money by consigning, and have a more pleasant experience while you're at it. read more

This is my new favorite resale store in town. It's a different beast than most Minneapolis thrift stores in that it specializes in higher-end designer names-- DKNY, Comme des Garçons, Prada, etc. Thusly the prices are a bit on the high end, but compared to an equivalent shop in Chicago or New York, it's a steal! I still regret not walking off with the fantastic Gaultier sweater I saw there for a mere 100$... I've also seen lightly used Gucci shoes for 60$. It's about the best curated shop of its kind I've seen in any city. Finally Minneapolis has shopping in almost every niche! Although I currently live in NYC, I'm looking forward to going home often and stocking up on pieces that are a fraction of the price they'd be out here! read more

The first I went in there, the person working there made me feel so uncomfortable. She was not friendly and just kept eye balling me. The second time was to see if I could consign a mint condition Georgio Armani Collezioni custom made pantsuit and the person working immediately seemed agitated that I interrupted whatever she was doing to tell me she usually doesn't consign on that particular day. How was I supposed to know? When she saw the suit she immediately passed and said the brand doesn't sell well because it's considered "old ladyish" Which I thought was strange because the woman looked to be around 50. So she basically dissed herself. I sort of smirked and let her know that this style was actually very much in fashion. I could have really done without the condescending attitude. Like, I get it you sell expensive clothing, but a bad attitude is cheap. Anyway, I ended up selling the suit for $675 dollars online on my own accord after only a week. I'm sure I'll get a really nasty, very unprofessional response from her as she has done so to other reviewers, but that's what happened. The owner has impeccable taste, shows interest in her guest's style, and is always available for ideas on how to wear/ complete the look of the particular pieces I show interest in. The shop is well-curated, artfully presented, and clean. Lord knows I cannot afford any of the delicious articles in this gem of a boutique first-hand, so it is fun to play with couture that I can actually dream of owning. All the great reviews caused my heart to pitter-patter and I couldn't wait to get to June even though I live at least a half hour away. Unfortunately I set my expectations too high and left disappointed by the selection. The store has four racks for all clothes and sizes they offer. Most items are in the M-L range with some XS/S/XL things scattered among them. Organization is a little haphazard; Large was for some reason sandwiched between two sections of Mediums while at times Small wasn't even separated out. I couldn't tell if I was meant to flip through everything or if things had just been returned to the racks randomly. Prices are reasonable-ish. Saw a Kate Spade jacket for $100, 90s era Armani blazers for $70. There were a couple Chanel dresses between $1000-$1500, but were a few seasons old (when shapeless dresses that hid your figure was in). Most pieces available were lackluster in design, things that I would never have purchased full price, on clearance or, now, on resale. Most likely why people are willing to part with them...as an ugly shirt, no matter the designer, is still ugly. Quite surprised at the lack of designer variety; no Dolce & Gabbana that I saw, same for Valentino, Rodarte, or contemporary designers like Jason Wu, Thakoon, and even McQueen. The bread and butter of the store appears to be its shoes, purses, and accessories. I saw a pair of Yves Saint Laurent heels from the 90s, when pointy shoes made a come back, priced at $100. The leather was faded, soles scratched, though heel still sturdy. A Lanvin pom-pom kitten heel was priced at $150 and showed signs of having been worn extensively, but looked like it had several wears left. As I was browsing, another customer came in, exclaiming how she hadn't been able to stop thinking about a Gucci purse in the store. Not particularly my cup of tea when it comes to designers, but June's purses look well-cared for and new for those who don't have $5000 to spend, but can scrounge up $1500. I, though, would rather just buy the whole cow for that price and eat filet mignon while tanning my own leather. Maybe I came on an off day, but there wasn't anything in the store that caught my attention enough to lure me back another time. read more

If the window displays aren't enough to make you stop and go into June, stop anyway and peer inside. The store is clean, well organized, and may give the impression that it is out of your price range. Don't hesitate, go in. You'll be glad. Her selection is extremely well priced - most items in the store are designer labels and you won't find them this inexpensive anywhere else. She hosts fantastic fun events at the store now and then too - I attended one last fall featuring several local jewelry designers that had tons of gorgeous unique pieces for sale (beware, they gave me champagne and it became harder to resist the urge to buy!). I was sad to miss another event on Friday (2/12) that had a lash bar (SUCH a great idea!) cupcakes and - again - champagne. (Another reason I love this place). The owner has a great eye and high standards for what she will re-sell. Most importantly, I never feel like I'm digging or have to sift through tons of racks to find anything. I brought in a new with tags Proenza Schouler black leather jacket some months ago...she declined to buy it, which seemed weird because the reason I disliked it was the style was more 'mature' than suitable for me at 25 years old and her normal client is probably closer to 40+. She offered consignment, but having people possibly ruin a new $2000 leather jacket and not getting compensated for it..no thanks. FINALLY took a look at her website..I guess I understand her apprehension for carrying a current designer like PS..it's a store for women who are stuck in 2001. Super dated..logo bags. I guess it's not her fault that her clientele have no idea that people stopped wearing buckled mules a decade ago. Maybe it's what sells for her, but perhaps ushering in modern styles and refusing another Coach bag would turn the fashion tables. read more
