Having come from Phoenix area, I was concerned about finding a place to go to for lunch or dinner. Junkyard Dog seemed unlikely to be that place just judging by the name. I went to a wedding reception there and thought they were kidding when they said the name. But, the food and service is stellar. Casual, beefy, American and delicious. We live now in Hohenwald TN. Nice drive with the Porsche Club. Probably 40 people in our group. Fast and efficient service. Super nice atmosphere and very friendly!! Started out with fried pickles. They were awesome!! Great ambience here and the food is delicious. The french dip sandwich and burgers we had were very tasty. Everything was well preparded and served by nice wait staff. It was crowded at lunch on a Saturday with two large groups there but service was exceptional. I look forward to going back since I live in Nashville. It's worth the drive! read more

The owner/chef has the manners of a Junkyard Dog so.... Yeah... I get the name now. Took my family because I heard the Filet Mignon was good. Which is great because that's the only cut of meat I care to eat and don't get to eat it much. Growl... they were out. It was 6pm on a Friday night. I order another steak. When our steaks arrived they were all well done even though no one ordered well done.... Growl. Snarl. We're not a family that causes issues so we said nothing to the waitress but upon exploration of my steak I noticed it was 80% fat and gristle. I tried my best to find some meat and two or three bites could be found. But when I tried to send it back I was told I'd already eaten 'most' of it. YAP RUFF SNARL BARK. GROWL. We were not, at the time, a family with a lot of money so going out and spending $100 on a dinner is very rare for us. To be told that I was going to pay for a plate full of fat hurt me and disappointed my wife and kids. Now he didn't come out and deliver this news himself! He sent a 16 year old girl. I asked for him but he wouldn't come. Now, I regret doing it, but in order to make up for being ripped off I didn't give our waitress a tip. I told her I was not upset with her but that the owner/chef had her tip and to go and get it from him. I heard later that she had! Good for her. As far as the Junkyard Dog? Bad dog! Bad bad dog! We had come into town while on a camping trip with our grandchildren and found ourselves looking around for a good local place to eat. We didn't want a fast food restaurant but a real family meal and we were not disappointed. The menu was full of great selections. Our server was really helpful and prompt. The memorabilia on the walls was fun to look at and the feel of the restaurant was enjoyable and friendly. Every worker was smiling and seemed to want to do their jobs and serve their customers. Plus the food was wonderful, cooked to order, and very tasty. We had, steaks, chicken tenders, gumbo, baked potatoes, baked beans, and more. We were well pleased and well fed. Whenever we come this way again we will make time to come back and tryout some more local delicacies. read more

We had wanted to eat at this steakhouse for a couple of years, so we loaded up with our neighbors and drove over an hour for a double date. There was a short wait and very few people wearing masks. The eclectic decor and warm environment was inviting. I ordered a steak which was cooked properly but sadly did not have the flavor expected from a steakhouse. My guess is they don't age their steaks. The killer plate of the night was the ribs our neighbor ordered. If I went back, that's what I would order. I was in Hohenwald today and had lunch from Junkyard Dog Steakhouses. I apologize, I forgot to take a picture of my food. I had grilled shrimp (which were great) and a pork chop. Both were very good. The grilled mushrooms and black eyed peas were yummy too. The restaurant itself was pretty small but cozy and comfortable. Staff was nice and friendly. And food came out in a timely manner. We were just passing through town and asked at a gas station where to get the best hamburger. This was one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. Hubby and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday while we were in the area to visit nearby Amber Falls Winery and hang with our favorite band, Box of Rox. We arrived at Junkyard just before they opened at 11:00, so we sat on the bench outside. Promptly at 11:00, the door opened and we were invited in along with 2 other parties. We were seated quickly, and Emily, our waitress, arrived to take our drink orders. She returned quickly and asked if we had any questions. We both wanted to try one of their hand-patted burgers, so we didn't really have questions. I ordered a classic and was surprised when I was asked how I wanted it cooked. Well, all right then. We are in this tiny hamlet from time to time helping tend to some family gravesites in the area. I had seen a special on NPT's "Tennessee Crossroads" the featured Junkyard Dog (yes, I'm admitting out loud that I watch TN Crossroads... if my Dad could hear me now...) and wanted to give them a try. We did about a month ago, and it was good, just nothing I'd especially write home about. The decor is eclectic, but I swear it doesn't look like what I had remembered from the TV special. We had burgers and fries, which seemed to be the order of the day, and they again were good, just not great. I tried the sweet potato fries because another diner exiting as we came in said they were the best. They were fine, but no seasoning especially that I could detect, but nothing negative either other than that. Service was fine, the place was not crowded on our visit. OK. I need to preface this with the fact that my husband and I have traveled around the country, since my last visit here a year ago. I've been talking about the steak here ever since. This was the mark all other steaks had to hit. We FINALLY made it back (after 6000 miles)! And it was better than I remembered.... Ribeye steak was juicy, incredibly flavored, and perfectly done medium rare as requested. My husband really enjoyed the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. Lots of thick, crispy bacon and cheese on a big juicy patty. Our server Jordon was great! Ask for her! She recommended for me the sweet potato side with the brown sugar and toasted marshmallows. This steakhouse came highly recommended to us. So glad we took our friends advice. I had the 10oz Sirloin with grilled onions, mushrooms a baked potato and a Caesar salad. My wife had a pulled pork dish with a side of broccoli and a Caesar salad. They brought some great warm bread to start out with. All in all an excellent experience. The staff were so friendly and patient. One of the owners stopped by our table to make sure we were happy. We had a very pleasant visit with her and quickly found common ground talking about our dogs. An extremely nice lady. We will for sure be back and highly recommend it. read more

Wow just went again and it was amazing. Can't say it enough their steak is top notch. Tender juicy the best. I wish I could cook a steak this well.
