As a Whitchurch resident I've been really impressed by Fino lounge. Whether you're after a coffee, cocktail, or bite to eat, it's the perfect place to go, and has become a real fixture in Whitchurch Village. In many ways Juno Lounge is very much of the same thing. They offer an identical menu, however I will admit that the Panini I had here was slightly superior in taste to the ones I've had in Fino lounge. It's not quite as big as Fino lounge, and is rather long, which might be the reason why I don't find this place to be particularly cosy, and it appears that there is less of a community feel than you get in Whitchurch. I was also a little disappointed by the staff. The woman serving me was all well and nice, however when I asked for a tap water told me that I could help myself to the jug on the counter downstairs. I ended up not bothering as didn't really fancy traipsing down the stairs, so I don't think it would have been to much bother for her to have offered to fetch me glass herself. I really did like the old fashioned black and white photographs on the walls. They seemed to have been from around the 1920s-1930s and featured schoolchildren, businessmen, rugby teams etc... and I found them to be utterly fascinating, though it would have been nice to have had something indicating where they were from. A real prime feature of this particular lounge is its relatively large terrace with tables on the second floor. Regrettably it was pouring with rain the day I was there, however I imagine it could be absolutely heavenly on warm summer days. In my opinion partially due to it's size and layout, I don't find Juno Lounge to be as good as it' sister in Whitchurch Village. It's a perfectly nice coffee bar/restaurant/bar however I'd only really visit it again if I were in the area. One for the locals I think.

The first time I realised that this place serves from morning until night I was a little confused. My friends told me that it was a bar as well as a coffee house but I remained perplexed. Luckily, I got over it enough to go for the coffee (well, tea) aspect of it and I am mighty glad I did. Never having experienced the alcohol side of it I shall focus on the day time atmosphere. It was a little bit dark when I entered. There were big windows though so a seat near one of those was a must. It wasn't too busy so there was plenty of room too. The service was excellent, really quite perfect and I felt valued as a customer. The prices are kind of as you'd expect - not super cheap but you pay for the nice environment, the comfy chairs, the excellent service, the lovely drinks. I don't mind paying for that!

Juno is a chilled-out but popular place for a bite to eat and a drink, whether you fancy a coffee or something a bit stronger, and it has stylish decor, comfortable chairs, and a relaxed atmosphere. Set over three floors of a corner building, the kitchen is on the second floor with seating areas on the ground and first floor. Inside it doesn't feel huge but there's just about enough space for the tables they have, and on summer days everyone tends to gravitate towards the roof terrace upstairs (which can get a bit packed). The staff seem okay, and are vaguely friendly, but the service is a bit on the slow side when they're busy. They just seem to be a bit over-stretched and under-staffed, but there's probably not enough room for many more waiting staff. Still, it's great to have an alternative place to go for an evening drink in this area other than a traditional pub (Juno is open from 9 in the morning right through to 11 at night), and in the winter all the candles make for quite a cosy atmosphere.

After passing on Westfield Road I have always had the curisosity to go in this place, it looked so charming from the outside! In fact it still is charming indoors as well. It was a nice surprise and not that expensive! It has two levels and a nice outdoor zone upstairs. You are spoiled for choices relating food, as a vegetarian I was more than happy eating a very good Gorgonzola and Roasted Veg pannini served with a good portion of salad! The only bad part of the experience was the slow service they provide, everything else was great, the decoration that is very rustic and cosy to the friendly staff. I would recommend this place. I begin to discover a bit more of the Roath area and really enjoying it. Edit: After had been there on a couple other occasions with different people I found that, although the food is still pretty good, they aren't very organized and some food disappears it has happened ever since.. someone asks for something and they forget about it it is a pity because this place is actually quite nice, tight but nice.

Finding baby friendly places to eat and drink have just become slightly more important of late, what with the arrival of Baby T and the subsequent diminishing of options for entertainment locally. I say locally, but to be fair, most venues in the area are good with babies. But I digress. Juno Lounge has long filled a need in Roath for somewhere to eat, somewhere to hang out, and somewhere to entertain friends and family without affecting solvency. The decor is quirky, the menu (lovingly chalked onto large blackboards around the place as is the style of the "lounges") decent if often unavailable due to lack of food, and there is a great selection of drinks on offer, from above average coffee, through great ginger beer and elderflower presse to single malts like Talisker. A word of caution here though, as the stout on tap is often bitter and tangy, indicating a lack of loyal stout drinkers and meaning the beer has time to go off in the pipes. Also in the plus column is the fact that food is served until late. My little family unit most often visits during the day time, to meet with friends and entertain parents and other children, and as such Juno Lounge has that little bit more to offer than a coffee house like the excellent Coffee #1 or one of the numerous cafes on Wellfield Road, and is still youthful enough that I might maintain the illusion that I'm not past 30 and my days of fun and frolics are not long past. It will remain to be seen whether the newly opened identikit Brains concept cafe / bar The Pear Tree will have any negative impact, but having eaten there once, I sincerely doubt it. Viva Juno!

This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. This is one of those places that reminds you how small we used to be - I'm only 5ft 7 and I stoop through the worn wooden doors. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). The restaurant opening times are Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. They also offer bar meals between 12 and 2 pm Mondays to Saturdays and evening meals Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

They have a fairly small Welsh menu and I was hoping to try some rarebit but unfortunately they took it off the menu now. So, I had the lamb cawl and beef and cottage pie. The pie was absolutely amazing, one of the best I have had so far. Lamb cawl was mediocre but I didn't have too much expectation from it to begin with. Everything was very reasonably priced and you can order from the table using their app and have the food delivered at the table which was amazing for a small town like Cardiff. The place in itself is amazing, its an old movie theater converted to a pub and like other reviewers mentioned they did not tear down the theater but just built the seating around it (good decision). The seating upstairs is more private and gives a good view of the whole theater.

Didn't get a chance to try the Welsh fruit cake because the kitchen closed at 10pm. It's a fun, lively pub atmosphere.

Ambiance/service: It is a very small place but is cozy and nice. There is a tiny and cute bar and the staff is very nice. But because it is small I would recommend reserving ahead of time. My server was very helpful in describing the dishes. Food: To start, I had a Cornish crab and potato rosti with a mustard leaf and chili. Sooo yummy and the crab was super fresh. Then, I had the spiced quail with chicory and red walnut pesto. Delicious! Next, I had the braised ox cheek with smoked pomme purée and Parmesan. Really really good. I also had a side of green beans that were made with garlic and lemon. Simple, but the best green beans I've ever had! Finally, I had a dessert of elderflower jelly, greengage (a European plum), vanilla ice cream, and biscotti. It was delicious! But I also loveeee elderflower so you definitely need to like that to have that dish. Overall, the food was excellent. I wish I could fly back to Cardiff to have it again!

We will definitely be returning to Milkwood
