    Justus & Company Estate Sales

    Justus & Company Estate Sales

On May 5, 2018, I patronized Justus' estate sale on Princeton in Memphis, TN. I purchased several…read moreitems there, some of which came from the dining room. The staff lady wrote a ticket for those items, and then she picked those items up and walked off with them. When I got ready to check out and pay, all of my items were supposed to have been wrapped, bagged, and given to me. Just as I arrived home, I had a call from a lady with Justus, saying they failed to give me some of the items which I had purchased, but which they did not give me. I had to make yet another 20 minute drive to the sale to retrieve those items, and yet another 20 minute drive back home. This 40 minutes of my time could have been used for better things than having to undo their screw up. In addition to the time spent, there was the gas I used for this 40 minute trip. I addition to all that, I recently had hip surgery and was already experiencing some discomfort when I arrived at the sale (the first time). This extra driving and stress only created additional discomfort. Justus' lady knew about my hip surgery because I told her when I first arrived and needed to sit and rest my leg/hip for a moment. When I arrived to retrieve the items (which Mr. Justus had packed and given to me in the first place), the lady offered a very meek apology, saying they just didn't see those things. I told her that excuse might satisfy her, but it didn't satisfy me. As weak as the apology was, it was easy to see that neither Justus nor his staff cared one hoot about their customers. Justus himself stood right there and remained silent, proudly displaying the quality of service he provides to his customers. There was one other item I would have purchased, and I asked for a reduced price on it, thinking Justus would surely do the right thing to compensate me. I only received a short and flat out decline for my offer on the item. Before leaving, I told the lady that she might want to remember that excuses only satisfy those who make them. Her response was the most unprofessional and probably the most snide and nasty that I have ever heard from a business person. She said, "I will remember that, and we will remember you." Remember me for what????? I did nothing wrong. It wan't my fault that they failed to pay attention to their duties and neglected to include all of my items. I absolutely will not return to a Justus sale. I have three vintage stores which I stock from estate sales. From the sales, I purchase hundreds of items per year, which amounts to a good bit of money. Justus won't be getting any of my business or money, though. Not after this. Any businessman with good business sense would realize the importance of bending over backwards to make his customers whole when he (the businessman) is at fault for an issue. Instead, Mr. Justus just stood there, making not a sound. Clearly, he had no concern for me as a customer. There may be customers (even some of his) who will tolerate this kind of pathetic behavior from doing business with his company. However, I will not tolerate such inefficiency. In Memphis, there is an estate sale on just about every street corner during the weekends. This means there are plenty of sales for me (and others) to go to. There are some dealers who are so wonderful to work with, and I know exactly how they would have compensated me in this case (of course, this situation has never arisen with any other dealers, because they pay attention to their duties). I can certainly advise on the best dealers' sales to go to, if you're interested in knowing: those dealers who care about their customers, are diligent in their work, and who would truly mean it if they said they were sorry. Although I did get some good deals on the things I purchase, I am giving the 1 star rating based upon the company's negligence and failure to pay attention, their lack of respect and dignity shown to me as a result of their negligence, their lack of concern for all the driving time and effort I had to waste, their lack of concern for my health issue and the exacerbated discomfort in my leg/hip as a result of having to go back again, and for other reasons. "They simply didn't see the stuff," the lady told me. I sure bet they would have seen the stuff if I had tried to walk out without paying for it.
