They've got their main floor, a back room (up 3 tiny stairs), and the upstairs (up the spiral staircase). They've got 2 doggos and 1 cat in shop. The cat is a local to the area whose previous owner had passed and given them their cat. The doggos are the owner's and they are super sweet ! Don't forget to give them pets on your way in & out ! The owner Mark & his wife Maggie are such a hoot ! I love coming in and chatting with them. They will suggest items based off genuine opinions and suggest something similar to what you may be on the hunt for. This place is definitely not for someone who has a specific idea of a gift- this is for someone who is on the hunt to find a unique and fun gift for another person (or themselves). New Discovery was a medicine for consumption (tuberculosis) a disease which at the time was killing millions of people. Many companies offered cures and remedies for consumption. However, all were frauds, including this, which was actually a concoction made from a morphine and chloroform mixture, calculated to strike terror to the doctors or to any other class or profession, except, perhaps, the undertakers. It is a pretty diabolical concoction to give to anyone, and particularly to a consumptive. The chloroform temporarily allays the cough, thereby checking Nature's effort to throw off the dead matter from the lungs. The opium drugs the patient into a deceived cheerfulness. Add a touch of alcohol (to further dull the sufferer's pain, and hey, it helped (until it didn't) The combination is admirably designed to shorten the life of any consumptive who takes it steadily. It was pretty cool and the owner/manager was a blast to chat with as well. Quite a few oddities "not for sale" and most likely not a store for everyone. Check it out if you dare. Every item is so thoughtfully curated by the owner, Kristina, who not only sources items from her travels but also makes several of the gifts available in the store. I always leave with so many cute presents for people or for myself. Some of the things can be a bit pricey but you can clearly see the quality and why it's worth it to purchase it! I usually come here when I need last second coffee beans since they carry Recluse coffee. I also have fun visiting this shop with friends when they visit me in Jackson Ward. One of my favorite things to buy here is their birthday card that has a candle imbedded into it along with a match. I think it's so cute and whimsical and the birthday person always loves it. I've been wanting to buy some of their beautifully colored taper candles. Every time I walk in always admire the ladder covered in an array of rainbow candles. If you're looking for a unique gift or a new statement piece, Odd Bird is the place for you.

This place is the Spot! I came here for a work event and we made glass pumpkins (it's definitely…read morenot inexpensive but was a great experience). Everyone had a really great time picking their colors and doing the glass blowing. The pumpkins came out really great and the pickup process was super easy! My one complaint would be that we were such a large group (we had 2 groups back to back) and I was in the 2nd group- you could tell the staff got tired (very understandable since they had to make 20+ pumpkins) and they didn't do a great job explaining the process ahead of time. On the upside, they were great about talking you through it in the moment. It was pretty dummy proof since the staff did most of the process for you, I don't think I can say I actually did "glass blowing" which I think is fine. Overall, would recommend this for events (but maybe smaller groups) and the staff is really skilled. They have a shop up front which I would recommend checking out!
