Shambhala is founded upon Buddhism but takes a non-sectarian view, i.e., you won't need to learn any Pali chants, but you will be introduced to many Buddhist concepts about the nature of human goodness and suffering. Her attention continued to be on her phone while I was signing in, and I waited quite a long time after undressing for her to begin the massage. I was asked nothing, and told her that usually I am asked if there are any areas to focus on. The massage was disappointing, as a deep tissue technique never involves digging in with the thumb only before warming up the muscle. She did this continuously, and it wss more irritating than painful, but quite uncomfortable. She never addressed lower back, a d focused for 10 full minutes on my calves. I left angry, and LPS will not get my return business. Tara, put your mind on the client, your job, and stay off personal business when at work, if you ever want to stay employed.

This weekend gave me space to sit with my emotions, let go of some things and get back in touch with myself. I never have to make decisions here. Suzanne lays out a perfect itinerary and has an amazing menu every time I come. I engaged in 4 yoga sessions, meditations, lots of time in the hammock sleeping/reading, a night by the firepit, a labyrinth walk and a 30 mile ride on the C&O Canal from Lock 38 past Lock 31. I am leaving the retreat feeling lighter, happier and with peace.

Suzanne was a gracious hostess willing to make slight adjustments to the schedule to meet the needs of participants - for example, we were mostly not morning people so we asked to flip the schedule for breakfast and morning yoga. Her yoga sessions featured accommodations and suggestions to meet the varying levels of expertise amongst participants. She also explained Ayurveda principles and the items she served. The participants (5 including me) got along well but there was space to spend time alone if desired. In all a lovely, relaxing weekend!
