Even before we ever moved to Halifax, we visited often and the first Just Us that we ever went to is still my favorite. You can find it on Highway 1 just after the Grand Pre exit. First - the view of apple orchards won my heart - nothing like a sea of pink blossoms heralding in the earliest signs of summer, to make a place stand out in one's mind. Once you enter, things get even better...that wonderful aroma of freshly ground and brewed coffee fills the air. Now, one could just order coffee and a baked good and be perfectly content, but you'd be missing half the fun. This (at least to my knowledge) is the only one with a small museum and shop spotlighting the fair trade agreement Just Us has with their partners in Ethiopia and Columbia, just to name a couple of grower partners. It is a privilege to shop in a place that really supports rather than exploits other lands.

The chicken sandwich was a leftover! Not fresh... not worth $10.95 plus tax we paid this morning at 11:30 am

I loved the colourful artwork, ample seating, and lots of natural light. We were visiting at the end of October so it was quite cold but I imagine in the summer months they can roll up the large bay doors for fresh air and coffee on the patio. There were lots of interesting wares and goods to look at for sale while I awaiting my pumpkin spiced latte. Of most interest to me were the coffee bean plants! I had literally never seen coffee beans growing before and if I lived here, I would want one of these for my desk at work. I now must hunt and see if I can find these in Edmonton, AB. This looked like the place to go and hang out while working or catching up with a friend. The chalkboard discussion topics wall was a fun and interactive touch and placed just right (where you're hanging out waiting for your beverage to be handed over). They had some signage up about fair trade which made me want to dig a little deeper. Turns out that Just Us! is Canada's first fair trade coffee roaster (founded in 1995) and a co-op. Their website is actually pretty interesting with lots of information! https://justuscoffee.com/blog/ Good to the last drop Just Us! Two thumbs up!

There's a little shop to the left when you enter & that's where you buy your $5 admission to the garden. I recommend you do your garden stroll first before buying things so you can appreciate what they sell, but also so that you don't have to lug it around with you. It's a well mapped garden with lots of greenery and later in the summer they open a little cottage inside the garden serving rose and herbal mint chocolate ice cream. They also do high teas, but we were a week too early for their opening dates for that. The garden itself is thriving & there are so many nice places to take pictures while you stroll. I'd recommend bug spray & sunscreen depending on the weather. It's also good that they give you a map with your admission. The herb gardens are abundant and you can smell them as you walk. They actually have a section for wedding parties as well. Back in the shop is a great assortment of herbal jellies and liqueurs made from herbs harvested from the gardens. The ice creams are also available in there too, and washroom is upstairs where you pass by the workshop where they make the wooden packaging for the gift sets. The lady at the counter is absolutely wonderful, and great at recommending flavours as well as giving generous little samples on crackers. She even let us sample a hidden gem there which was blueberry balsamic vinegar, aged about 3 years which was quite lovely. As a tourist, this was a lovely experience & I'd highly recommend visiting!
