    Dirt/mud/weed entrance to cabin

Dead Bat, cold showers and dangerous walkways I attended my Daughter's wedding and reception at Justin Trails Resort. When we arrived on the morning of the wedding we found our daughter trying to prepare without hot water in the cabin they rented, as part of their event package. The resort owners were aware that this was a continuing problem in this cabin, and yet rented it to the bride and groom. Next we saw the photographer (not associated/employed by Justin Trails Resort) and a guest doing their best to remove magazine and newspapers placed on the bare ground by the resort owners, in the wedding ceremony location, so that they wouldn't be in the wedding pictures. When the Day of Event coordinator (not associated/employed by Justin Trails Resort) was preparing the barn/reception area she discovered a dead bat on the floor. Next, when she turned on the large ceiling fans she discovered where the bats (and possibly birds?) roost. The reception area was showered with animal droppings. When we returned to our Daughter's cabin after the reception the dirt and weed walkway to the door was now mud. This caused the Mother of the Bride to slip and fall, barely missing the door frame with her head. This is a SAFETY HAZARD! This venue looks great on the surface but the owners need to pay more attention detail. They were not helpful or considerate towards the Bride and Groom, or the photographer and event coordinator. If you are looking for a stress free location for an event, look elsewhere.

Our family was looking for a last minute place to stay for a long weekend vacation in WI during Covid. We found the Camping Cabin at Justin Trails and booked our stay. The cabin was simple but had everything we needed for two adults and three high school/college age kids. Donna made sure everything we needed was taken care of. The restrooms were outside in renovated barn--very close and very clean. Donna provides a wonderful breakfast each day made with produce from her garden and other local sources. It was a great way to start the day and chat with Donna and other guests about what do do for the day. There are miles of beautiful walking trails through the very hilly driftless region property -- over 200 acres I think. The trails and much of the grounds are well maintained for easy walking and running and disc golf for those who like that kind of thing. The lower level of the barn is air conditioned and setup with tables, couches, TV, Foosball for people who need a place to eat or hang out if the weather is bad. We also had a fire pit and free fire wood. Overall it was a great find. Thanks Donna for providing this nice family retreat.

The Joseph Fugina House has a main floor that you can rent, complete with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs, there are three separate rooms that can be rented. They each have their own bathroom, with a shared kitchen upstairs and a shared living room downstairs. I would highly recommend looking that their website, as the photos really show how beautiful this space is. They also rent out the Prairie School House just down the street. That's a full house (no separate rooms for rent). The renovators and designers did an incredible job. Walking into the Joseph Fugina House is like stepping into a Pottery Barn or Pier 1 photo shoot. Great attention has been paid to details. Our room in the Joseph Fugina House had wonderful windows that let in a lot of light and overlooked the Mississippi River. There was also a small patio with two chairs where you could sit outside and enjoy the view. Each room has a Keurig coffee maker. The proprietors even restocked us with some Chai tea and decaff which my wife asked for! We loved our stay and would absolutely, without question, stay here again. The location is great. You can walk to town to enjoy the shops and restaurants. Guests can enjoy a 10 percent discount at The Golden Frog, a bar and grill located in downtown Fountain City. The only minor negatives would be: trains are passing by across the street about every 15 minutes, so if you're a light sleeper or can't stand that noise, you may want to go elsewhere. Also, the water was slow to get warm in the bathroom, and when it did, it didn't get real warm. We appreciated having access to a full kitchen - the ceramic dishes, real silverware, a fridge, etc. Again, the decorating was amazing. I hesitate to speak too glowingly about the place for fear that the next time we want to return, it will be booked.

We based ourselves out of Amil's for two nights, and we were on our bikes only! The only down side of this lodging choice was the 2.5 mile ride to Amil's from the trail, but Hwy 131 was not super busy and felt completely safe to ride on. I'm not a regular B&B person at all, they are usually not my first choice in lodging. But this trip proved a B&B, AMil's in particular, was the best choice. Anita is the owner and proprietor of Amil's and she certainly knows what she's doing! The accommodations were super comfortable and the house, the rooms, the bathrooms and everything were off the charts clean. Breakfasts were also off the charts tasty and filling -- my only complaint is I could barely clean my plate there was so much to eat, and I didn't want to be rude by leaving anything to go to waste. Turns out the fuel was needed for the rides anyway, but....Yes, fresh wonderful breakfasts with ingredients from Anita's gardens, couldn't be beat. And endless coffee. We also enjoyed a morning stroll around the gardens and an evening sitting on the front porch watching the sunset. (The Cenex in town has a good beer and snacks selection and we enjoyed a dinner at the Hitching Post Bar in town one night). We didn't partake in sitting out back at the fire pit, but noticed the basket of s'mores supplies available for guests. Anita is delightful, and every detail was taken care of. Bottom line is Amil's was a lovely experience and I highly recommend staying here!

We had so much fun at the Saturday night dinner, talking and enjoying delicious homemade wine and food. The owners are knowledgeable about what they are making, where it is coming from, and the way they grow and prepare the majority of the food they make! My only real caution is to say that WHEN you stay here, "(because you should!) do your best to drive up during the day. The B&B is a bit remote for this Chicago gal, and the roads at night are dark and twisty. We are looking forward to coming back!

Our room was perfect for us, the smallest one I think, but plenty of room and a very nice bathroom. Even though the part of the house was built in the 20's, everything seemed new. Got wifi in our room. The bed and linens were super comfy. Breakfast was at a not-too-early 9:00am and was delicious. I was glad I didn't make lunch plans, we were barely hungry by dinner time. We got a fun little tour of the winery operations downstairs by Chris. We couldn't get the sheep or donkeys to come to the fence to be pet, but they are friendly. Sadly we had to head onto the next leg of our trip, otherwise we would have done some of the trails. Sherry and Chris were really nice, personable, and funny. We absolutely loved our short stay and plan to come back next year. Breakfast is not included in this suite but it was no problem making arrangements with Nora for a couple of mornings. We enjoyed talking with Pete, Nora and other guests - Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Georgia being represented this weekend. While relaxing at the Inn is no problem I would strongly recommend two side trips: 1) The Shrine to the Our Lady of Guadelupe in LaCrosse. It is a one hour drive and it is amazing! Check it out on Yelp. I put up some photos but they don't do it justice. 2). Pete and Nora had suggested two places to eat in the area. The pizza at the Country Gardens motel was darn good and the prices for pizza and the other menu items was darn reasonable. It's about 15 minutes away in Soldiers Grove. If you want 5 star food then you need to keep driving another 15 minutes to The Driftless Cafe in Viroqua. The Beef Tenderloin was Outstanding and the desserts (especially the carrot cake) were excellent too! Prices are a bit higher but well worth it for this very fresh and delicious meal!
