We asked if they minded if we looked around, so we popped in the back to see the dogs. The place was exceptionally clean and the place just looked beautiful, you can tell the staff really cares for all of the animals! Please consider adopting a dog before buying a purebred- these wonderful little babies need homes too!

We have had experience with two other animal rescue businesses and can tell you that PAR takes outstanding care of their rescues. The environment in which they live until they find their forever home is loving and they are individually and collectively very well cared for and loved. We couldn't be happier with Rocky, who was considered a special needs cat. He is shy but has really become attached to my wife and he is warming up to me too. Rocky has been with us a little over two months and has become a part of our family. He gets along very well with our Siamese female rescue Coco. They are nearly the same age (Rocky will be five in June/Coco will be five in August). So, if you've been thinking about adopting a rescue, please check out PAR in Lapeer, MI. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I noticed some of the handlers try to pull at your heart strings while meeting a new furry friend. This guilt trip more or less could push someone into an adoption that may not be right for the animal or human. I can understand the need for space, funding, and all the babies need a home. However, that sort of behavior could cause a bad cycle.

Shocked and appalled by my experience with Oakland County Animal Control & Pet Adoption Center…read more Went through the volunteer orientation process and was told at my first volunteer date, I be directed to a dog as well as walked through the setup and walking process. That did not happen. I was simply given a dog, showed to leash them, provided with no animal history or direction and was sent out for a walk. The shelter manager was immediately rude and nasty, saying I didn't follow process, despite no walkthrough and dog info/history. The dog I was with was sweet, but unbeknownst to me, they were other dog aggressive. On my walk, I avoided outside stimuli to the best of my ability and stayed away from other animals. Towards the end of the walk, I took the dog to the pool area. Another dog came near, barking. I wrapped the leash extra tight on around my hand. Both dogs were aggressive and I restrained the dog with my whole being. Despite pulling with all my might, the dog broke free and went after the other. Immediately, I went to re-restrain the dog. The shelter manager, who couldn't handle the dog either, screamed at, berated and blamed me for the incident. While I was on the ground, trying to restrain the dog, with all my might, doing all I could physically could to stop the incident. Eventually, other shelter employees were able to assist, but not without issue. I ended up with a two injuried fingers and physical and emotional trauma. As well as the other volunteer with injury/trauma - as well as issues with the dogs. To which, I tried to assist in concern, resolution and regard in anyway possible. The lack of direction and guidance, then excessive criticism and lack of support and concern, was unacceptable. It's incredibly disheartening and disabling. I've never experienced such lack of concern and straight up attack from an organization. Nor such complete disregard for my injury and trauma - invalidating my pain, swelling and experience. I had nothing but the most positive and helpful of intentions. I feel deeply for everyone and all animals involved, tried to/will do anything to help in the resolution - to which I implicitly expressed . Oakland County Animal Shelter was unprofessional, blame shifting - and there actions led injury, trauma and unnecessary pain and suffering. Currently seeking medical care for it effected my normal functioning. Especially of concern is the shelter manager, who was sexist, gaslighting and lacked any support and care for the volunteers, employees and animals. He is disrespectful, rude and completely insensitive to humans and animals. Such blatant disrespect and abuse of power is unacceptable - especially in a nonprofit setting. The way I was made to feel was inappropriate, discriminatory disrespectful, wrongfully accusatory as well as unethically critizing and unprofessional.

They provided us with dry food and several cans of wet food when we took him home. Corinne and all the volunteers here are such amazing people!! They truly have a heart of gold and take such good care of all the dogs and cats here! She was great at keeping in touch with us and keeping us posted about our application. She gave us a folder with all his vaccine records and other info we needed. He is already fixed and micro chipped which is awesome! Adoption fee was 150.00. If you're looking to adopt come here!! Although there was a misunderstanding on my part, and I did not adopt from this Furever Tails, I…read morehighly recommend the vetting process. I fell in puppy love with an adorable little miss who was a stray maltipoo. The application was more in depth than any work application I have completed as a speech pathologist working in school with disabled students. This is a good thing because it got to who I was as a person and my history with dogs. Next, it asked for three recommendations and i gladly complied. The owner asks for proof of either owning your own home, or proof that your lease does not restrict dogs. Imagine if you adopt a dog and you cannot keep it because of a rental policy. The dog is on to another owner which can be traumatic for the baby and possibly for the new owner. The dog might be passed on from one owner to another rather than going back to Furever Tails and who knows in whose hands he/she will wind up. The final and most important part of the process in my opinion is your vet is called and, if you have had other dogs, the vet provides proof that you are a good prospective fur baby parent. Unfortunately, before my vet was called, and he was called a day later, my sweetie had "adopted" written on the picture. I thought that someone else had adopted her. I happened to call my vet to make an appointment for my doggie Angel, who had just lost her best friend who was killed by a speeding car and she was beside herself with grief. Furever Tails was on the phone at that same time and I explained that i had already adopted another little girl. It was love at first site with my malti-poo rescue but the process for the other dog was completed and the puppy was on her way. For those people who complain about the adoption process at Furever Tails, I have to say that the process is probably exhausting for the owner and she is showing due diligence to protect the babies in her charge. She does not have time for chit chat and has to keep the number of dogs at a minimum due to the comprehensive check she does on each animal. I commend her for doing the job she does.

Sorry to see the bad reviews here because my experience was nothing short of wonderful. We were at…read morethe pet event at Canterbury Village to get an idea of what breed, age etc we were wanting as our lady beloved dog had passed away 8 months ago. We had no hopes of adopting because I had seen how difficult it can be making contact with other rescues. And then it happened, we came gave to face with our new fur baby. As I said, we were not anticipating adopting on that day but the rescue volunteer went above and beyond to make it happen. There was no judgement or rudeness. She simply asked for our vets name and number so she could verify that our last dog had good care. Once she made the phone call, everything was up from there. She let us take the puppy for a long walk, went over all the medical issues, gave us medications, extra food and even a nice leash to get home. She had also pre booked our puppy's spay appointment. I wasn't prepared and didn't have enough cash so she took a check. I honestly can't say enough about this rescue. By the time we returned from our walk, she had already moved another dog into our puppy's crate and was actively looking for a nice home for that one. I fully understand why rescues now to be diligent with possible adopters and maybe some of them give other rescues a bad name but this rescue absolutely had only one mission in mind... finding a loving home for a dog. We stopped at the local pet store on the way home and loaded up on toys, snacks, food, crate, leash and even a few cute outfits. My home is now overrun with toys galore and a happy bouncing puppy that has filled our home with love. She also told me that if I had any issues I was welcome to call her at any time. She did say that it's difficult to answer calls so just text or email so maybe that's what happened to other posters. This woman is busy, finding homes for pets that have been abandoned or unwanted so it's understandable that answering the phone might not be so easy. I would not only adopt from them again, I highly recommend them as well if your looking for a pet. My Ellie Mae (A.K.A. Addie) has filled our home with love. Give this rescue a chance, you won't be sorry.

It was -1 degrees the other day, so frantically i found rescue groups in Michigan and I started calling to advocate for them. The lady that answered the phone was nice and resourceful. He would need to send the inquiry via online and get them to Adopt-a-Pet, but that never happened because he said the mom moved them the next day. I'm a bit upset because it's evident that the mom should be fixed, but it could be that no one in his neighborhood is aware of the practice. Even though this place wasn't able to help, but they were very helpful and sincere. I hope that the little family is safe from bad people, wildlife, cars, and the rigid weather. While I have 2 cat condos and 2 heated beds for the stray cats that I help feed (all fixed), I can't help but think about the others who aren't so lucky.

But that is the problem. They seem far more interested in the wellness of the pet than they do the communication with the adopter. Extremely unprofessional, zero people skills. It felt more like I was taking their personal pet from them and they begrudgingly accepted it. Again, I love animals, I love that they love animals, but I think they are extremely off-putting, socially. It's all about "No" at Adopt-A-Pet. Every communication feels unapologetically skeptical and disappointing from the staff. They don't hold animals. They don't hold animals. They will not hold your animal. They don't hold animals.
