With COVID-19 you must have an appointment to enter the hair salon. No walk-ins. I arrived 5 minutes early and checked in. Mine-san was my hair stylist and she was friendly and professional. I only needed a slight trim for my hair and bangs plus thinning. She washed my hair (such an enjoyable experience) and finished the trim in 45 minutes. The total came to around $60 (incl tips). Other japanese salons charge around similar prices for ladies haircut WITHOUT shampooing, this salon includes shampooing in the price. The salon is a humble place it's not upscale or lux. But for my experience it's one of the good ones. Also really close to skytrain station.

Overall, I was very happy with the service and the cut that I received. I got there on time but I was told that there is a delay, and would be another 15 min wait, I didn't mind, and waited. 15 min later, the receptionist came to me again and apologized bc it would be a further 15 min or so, i then found out that one of their hair dressers got sick and could not work, so it was understandable. I was looking at the different hair style mags they had and 15 min went by quickly. Finally it was my turn, and the hair dresser I got was Chloe. I was undecided about what i wanted, i had wanted a change, but was nervous about too drastic of a change at the same time. I consulted Chloe, and she could understand my concern, so she suggested that I keep the lenghth, and she was going to layer my fine hair to give it some volume, and give me some side bangs to frame my face. By the time she got to me, she was the only stylist working at that time, and there were already several customers waiting.. I was worried that she might just rush through me to get to the other customers, but to my surprise, she didn't do that, she not only cut and layered my hair carefully, paying attention to detail the entire time, she even styled my hair nicely to give it a great finished look. As it starts the student removed the foils saying I'll meet you at my chair, oh let me take the cape from you. Of course it was wet I noticed. I proceed back to his chair out of nowhere the instructor (Lauren) approaches me rather quickly with a blow dryer saying "oh your jacket has water on the back let me blow-dry that for you". I trusted her word. The student comes back proceeds with blow-drying my hair once it was completed he showed me the back. Because my hair is long I couldn't see the stain on (my new jacket which I only got to wear twice) I paid $79 plus taxes. Until I got home removed my jacket noticed orange stain from the bleach from the salon. Ahh, then it made sense after I realized that's why instructor (Lauren) came over quickly claiming it was water, no it was bleach from the student doing highlights on my hair. I tried numerous times to contact the student online but nothing. Finally, he replies only because I left a msg asking when his manager would be in again. Oh, she went skiing got into a ski accident going to be off for some time. I said you know that you got bleach on my new jacket $79.00 + tax which is now damaged. The student kept denying it although he had the nerve to say to me which left me flabbergasted from his words. "oh, maybe you bought your jacket like this," seriously I'm gonna buy a $79 jacket with a orange bleach stain on the back! It's been 2 months since I finally reach the owner (Lianna) she says "he's sorry he got bleach on your jacket". I thought how can this be true? Only because I contacted him which he keeps denying he did it furthermore he hasn't worked at Zinc salon for over a year. I found this very interesting as well. Lianna says "I've heard all the stories I want you to stop calling do not come to my hair salon or I will call the police on you". I thought oh wow you didn't even hear my side and I'm the paying customer. First of all why would I return I sent her an email letting her know she can mail the money to my address that I'm providing. She replies in her email back "you need to come to my Hair Salon sign a paper then I'll give back your money". Why would I waste my time returning to a toxic environment more so the owner (Lianna) instructed me very firmly to not call nor come to her hair salon or she'll call the police on me. I have provided my mailing address to her saying you can email the paper then E-transfer the money you owe me for my damage jacket from the bleach since last year (2019). Of course I never heard back from her which I'm not surprised at this point. This paper she wants me to sign probably states I won't post anything online. A friend gets her hair done on Robson Street at a high end salon. The exact same thing happened this was a professional hairdresser (not a student) that got bleach on her blouse from doing highlights . The manager reimbursed her right on the spot and both apologized . This is what true customer service represents. To this day my friend still goes back there only because they valued her as a customer. She didn't have to go back after that experience but she chose to. I hope this posting will be helpful to anyone that's thinking about getting highlights at Zinc hair salon.

I paid for $35 for a haircut including wash and style like other Yelpers did. I thought my stylist cut TOO much, but split ends were gone at least. I felt much lighter after my haircut. Aya was very helpful. She took time to cut my hair with attention. Because it's cash only I had to go to a grocery store next door to use ATM. I'll definetely go back!

The owner and a Japanese hair stylist (called Aya) were able to schedule an appointment accommodating the time for me on the day I called (today). They were awesome! The hair studio has a great location (I personally think), because it is just next to Joyce Skytrain Station. Even if I drove, I could find street parking easily. After I stepped into the hair studio, the owner and Aya greeted me. They were very polite and took a good care of me (and all other customers). They placed my purse carefully and locked into a storage. Aya washed my hair carefully and checked with me about the temperature of the water and if I felt comfortable. She put time and effort to cut my hair and made sure if that was the length that I wanted on my hair (unlike some hair stylists kept cutting the hair even though I asked to trim a little bit). After cutting the hair, Aya put a little bit of treatment lotion(?), blew dry my hair and even curled a little bit at the bottom of my hair to make the whole style look perfect. Their pricing was reasonable and service was great! They deserved 5 stars! I would come back for the hair cut next time.

However, beggars can't be choosers; I was low on time, I needed a cut and Zhape is literally down the street so I took a gamble and booked in. I was greeted by Sunshine (pun intended), seated and discussed what I was looking to do with my hair. I felt confident as she explained what she was going to do, just so I could verify if that's what I wanted (discussed length, shape, bangs, texture etc.) After a wash, deep conditioning and awesome scalp massage, Sunshine went to work on my hair. She spent so much time and attention on the initial cut, blow dry, texturizing and final style (I wear my hair in waves) and it shows. I honestly think this may possibly be my BEST haircut EVER! I didn't want to drive to Vancouver and so I went on online and found Splash. Nikki did a good job with my hair. She made some slight adjustment to it and she explained to me why before she started. She is very good with her job. The place is clean and location is not bad. The best part is that there are plenty of free parking. They are somewhat hidden. They are located beside one of the T&T entrance tucked away.

Splash came up and we called them to see if they had any availability. Right away they were able to fit her in. I'm not saying that will always be the case, but they did squish her in between some other appointments and made it happen, which really made our day! The owner is extremely friendly and professional; their covid protocol is great and he did ask me to leave a few times because they were at capacity and I was just a guest (which I totally don't mind because I respect their adherence to the rules). Watching them interact with us and other customers, you can tell they treat everyone with the same curiosity, respect, and thoroughness. They are great at what they do, friendly, and accommodating. My girlfriend's request was met positively despite it's complexity; I have definitely gone to other salons who tell you they're busy when they don't want to deal with you. Their location is great for wheelchairs and there is tons of parking nearby.
