Happy day: study materials from K12 have been delivered :)

My review is for the quality of K12 curriculum, specifically - independent study courses. My 11 y/o twins are finishing 7th grade now with Inspire Charter, using K12's 8th grade online courses. We have been lucky to learn with K12 since kindergarten. I believe it is thanks to K12 my kids love learning, are independent learners and thinkers, excellent students who score as top 1%, pass advanced, or max on state required standardized tests, as well as are more mature and better socialized than most of their peers by age. I am especially pleased how comprehensive K12's courses in math, science, history are, even in elementary school. As a linguist, I must assure you that K12 language arts courses are superior to all currently available in the U.S. curricula. We are a military family. Every time we moved, we enrolled our kids in a local highly ranked public or private school first, yet every time saw how behind, academically and socially, our kids' peers in regular schools were; hence, every time we ended up switching back to either a K12 affiliated school (Virginia Virtual Academy, California Virtual Academy, Washington Virtual Academy, Inspire Charter School of CA, etc.) or, if this option was not available, we simply bought the independent study courses directly from K12, paying for them ourselves. All these K12 schools differed in their approaches depending on state requirements, school district policies, and other bureaucracies; yet, our positive experiences and opportunities with Virginia Virtual Academy (K12's public school option in VA) and Inspire Charter of CA (not affiliated with K12 but gives you funding to purchase K12 curriculum of your choice) outweigh by far anything any of the best highly ranked local brick-and-mortar schools or "free-range" homeschooling could possibly offer. My kids absolutely love K12. I am grateful to the company for putting together quality independent study courses and for the continuity they offered to us as a military family despite of all the moves we had to endure following my husband's demanding career. I do understand where some of the negative feedback comes from in the reviews below, yet to me, those are minor bureaucratic issues that can be fixed easily. Most of the time, if you look into it, the problem lies not with K12 but with the local school districts. Teachers differ from school to school, teachers' levels of experience and professionalism differ, people make mistakes. The reality is whether you are a homeschooler or simply want your child to have access to quality comprehensive curriculum to supplement your brick-and-mortar education gaps, K12 is there for you. It offers one of the best (if simply not the best) curricula available in this country today. It has been there for my twins for sure. Thank you, K12 team, as well as every teacher who has supported and still is supporting us in this learning journey.

Here's the length of time I've been on the phone just today and I'm STILL HOLDING!!!! HORRIBLE WAY TO DO BUSINESS!

Mrs. Key and Mrs. Birehan were an incredible blessing to our family, providing him with patience, encouragement, and support every step of the way. We are also deeply grateful to Mr. Robert and Abigail for being so welcoming, kind, and supportive from the very beginning. They created an environment where our family felt valued and cared for. If it weren't for the unexpected changes in our family's circumstances, we would have gladly allowed Elgar to continue his educational journey at Oak Hill. We will always be thankful for the love, guidance, and positive impact the Oak Hill team had on our son and our family.

Not to mention, the staff, the headmaster and his family, are all so incredibly kind and an excellent reflection of core Christian values that I want my son to be influenced by. Ms. Weathers pours her heart into these children and my son adores her! She is incredibly sweet and my son always comes home talking about nothing but positive experiences with this teacher. I recommend this school to all my fellow Christians who want a solid Christian education for their children. They are doing it right here

I am a Nysmith alum and know firsthand the value of the education they provide. It's been amazing to see how they've preserved and built upon the core experience and vision that founder Carol Nysmith built. To be clear, I have no incentive to post this review other than to help other families in the area consider Nysmith as a choice for their children. Before we chose Nysmith, e considered and toured a number of schools, including Basis Independent, Flint Hill, Ideaventions, Pinecrest, and Edlin. Most of these are among the top ranked schools in Northern Virginia. We felt that Nysmith had the best blend of factors for our child. - Academics: Nysmith has incredible academics, highly personalized to meet each individual child's needs. Nysmith's roots are in nurturing gifted/talented children, and with that approach comes the understanding that not every child is equally advanced in every subject. Some other schools will assign lots of homework to kids, which isn't really our vision for academic success. We like Nysmith's approach, which is to cultivate and nurture a love of learning rather than to put kids on a treadmill of endless homework. We also like that Nysmith integrates subject matter expertise into their curriculum from kindergarten onward: math experts teach math, science teachers teach science, rather than one teacher teaching all or most subjects - Size: Nysmith is bigger and more established than some of the younger "startup" schools. The classes are big enough that your child will have multiple sections of students to be friends with, they won't be siloed with only 5 or 10 classmates. Teacher ratios are still great - Teachers and Staff: Nysmith's teachers are qualified and smart, which you'll get at most private schools. But there's a key difference: they seem happier and more engaged than at any other school in the area. Retention is incredible: some of the Nysmith teachers have been there for over 25 years - since I was a student in the 90s! - Facilities and resources: Nysmith has a great facility that still has the DNA of a school rather than a country club. The facility is big, the playground is great, everything feels new, bright, and spacious - Community - We're still early in our experience with Nysmith but the PTO seems very engaged with many events scheduled. By reputation, Nysmith has one of the strongest communities of any school in the area

Beneath Ken Nysmith's slick salesmanship and the forced smiles that greet you, lies a far more sinister reality that belies the promise of "joy-filled, personalized learning". If you're seeking a school that truly nurtures your child's heart and mind, look elsewhere! Wellbeing and emotional support are woefully neglected at Nysmith. This place sees no problem in breaking spirits, crushing individuality and forcing students into a rigid mold that stifles their unique potential and confines them to narrow expectations. Question the status quo, and you'll be met with contempt. Conformity is the sole currency valued here! Think The Bible, Torah, or Quran -- immutable and infallible. . . I have met a few great teachers but admin pressure seems to leave them little bandwidth to connect, coach, or inspire students (despite the low student-to-teacher ratios). Humans are wired to thrive in safe, supportive spaces where even mistakes become stepping stones to learning. Nysmith is NOT that space. You've been warned!

I have never felt more comfortable leaving my kids in the care of all of the amazing staff here. They are truly like one big family and they make all of their students feel part of that family. There is virtually no staff turnover which is unheard of at daycares. Lindsey (the director) is so amazing at her job she really does care for each and every student and parent. The communication on a day to day basis is great you can always message the teachers and check in at any time alongside receiving pictures/activity updates. I also wanted to mention the summer camp for K and older was an amazingly run program from the camp staff to the activities- they went on so many field trips and my son had the time of his life. So if you are looking for daycare, private K, or an afterschool program- GPA is by far the best choice!!!
