Karen was a recommendation to me since we've been interested in bringing a French Bulldog puppy into our home. Karen is not a breeder, but is a middle-person who brings puppies into Illinois from surrounding states. I guess you could consider her a "Puppy Broker". The origin of her puppies from what she told me is they come from out of state breeders and are AKC. She has also been working with these breeders for several years. We scheduled an appointment to meet Karen and the puppy. Karen was friendly and her home was a very tidy environment. The puppy area was spacious, had toys and a puppy bed. Karen answered all our questions. She also takes pride in her clientele, some of whom are public figures that she proudly displays their photos and thank yous. The puppy was adorable! She let us play with him for a while as we asked her questions. Karen gets three stars based on our positive experience with her and our newness to bringing a puppy into our home in this capacity. Neither one of us has ever worked with a Breeder or Middle-person like Karen. The reason we chose not to get a puppy from Karen is we decided to go with an actual Breeder where we could know and understand the lineage better. With Karen not being the breeder, this was something she was unable to provide. If a true breeder is not a deal breaker for you, I encourage you to contact her and see if she is a match for you and your puppy needs.

I've had the pleasure to foster animals as well as screen applications. AEAR fulfills their mission in a purposeful way. None of the services are provided thoughtlessly. AEAR serves the local community, provides educational programs, works to show the value of bringing people and animals together, and teaches children how to treat animals with respect. An important aspect of AEAR is that they don't just rescue cats and dogs, but also many other types of pets. As long as their is someone willing to foster an animal, AEAR will take it in and try to find the best home for it. All of the individuals involved with AEAR--mostly volunteers--are committed to the mission of rescuing animals, educating the community, and bringing people and animals together.

In 2022, it took us all of five minutes to land on Batty -- who marched up and declared himself ours. In May 2026 we spent an hour, meeting each cat, before landing on Moon. And then two weeks later I emailed to see if Monkey was still available....he was & so now we have three! Easy process. Everyone's kind and patient (especially with my kiddo, who was 8 and 11). And the cats are very well cared for -- and as advertised when it comes to behavior, etc. Five stars isn't enough, but it's the max here ... so five stars!

The shelter was clean and roomy. We spent a decent amount of time with the puppies but I don't think we were taking an outrageous amount of time visiting with the dogs. We wanted to make sure our four legged daughter was going to get along with our potential new family member. We all felt that one of the staff members was trying to get us in and get us out and pushing us to make a decision. In the end it all worked out well. We got a great puppy and our current dog got sister to hangout with, but if you don't take the time things could go south.

This small animal welfare organization, dedicated to finding homes for golden retrievers, is big on getting results. In my opinion, they go about it the right way. Their application process is thorough; they foster their rescue dogs to socialize them (depending on their background and circumstance) and they work hard at validating health before adoption occurs. They have tons of meet 'n greet functions and their donations assist many Golden's requiring costly medical procedures to give them the lives they deserve. Their regular staff and volunteer staff are knowledgeable and great to deal with. It is true that there are so many animal rescue organizations out there that deserve a gigantic Yelp. This is one of the better ones.
