While out on an epic road trip from Chicago and on the hunt for legit kachinas and other authentic Native American wares we literally stumbled upon the Katchina House in Sedona. No not the Sedona you usually think of but the real Sedona. The place people live, work, play, and the Sedona you find the off the tourist path legit local businesses. Yes it's out there past the tourist areas. Kachina House is the real deal! Upon entering the ladies there all said hello and were extremely welcoming. Everyone assisted us in every way they could and were truly excited in doing so. The treasures in this store are innumerable. I mean this store is the most authentic beautiful Native American store I've ever been in the Southwest. You will be in awe of the authenticity and beauty of what they offer. There's something for everyone from smaller art pieces to the large intricate one of a kind art. All of their offerings are tagged and signed by the Native artists who made the piece. Upon entering the main room offers some items for kids and mementos for the road tripper memories. There truly is something for everyone here. It's difficult to even describe the beauty of the store, its offerings, and the peace and serenity you will find while in their building. I've always heard about the feeling of peace and that 'aura and spirituality' that Sedona possesses. Well, the Kachina House truly has that feeling. It is the real Sedona. It's like a mini museum and you feel the Native American presence while you are there. Naturally there are items you do not want to touch or simply just shouldn't out of respect. I hesitate to even take photos of the inside and the offerings out of respect. I'm not sure that you can even take photos so please inquire with staff first. We stumbled upon this place looking for authentic Native American items. We are soo glad that we did!! The location itself is pretty unassuming- it looks like a little house set on the road. But when you walk in, there is just a plethora of items for everything you could want. Toby was there to greet us with a smile & take you on a tour of the shop. She was insightful, funny, honest & took her time to explain the pieces & the rich history behind them. We are so glad she did because we really felt informed when we bought our pieces. Wow! That was the first thought that sprang to my mind as I stepped into this non traditional store that is off the main strip of Sedona stores. It's more in a residential neighborhood so don't be puzzled by where your navigator is taking you. It is correct & well worth the few extra minutes to get here! We were immediately greeted at the door by one of the owners - the lovely & knowledge Toby Frank. She asked if we needed any guidance & graciously took us on a tour of all the 6 rooms filled with the most amazing Native American Crafts. Her knowledge & passion for keeping the Native American culture alive & pure through their art was so heartwarming & very impressive. There was every kind of Native American craft you could imagine. From Katchina dolls, all kinds of hand painted pottery, sand artwork, painted hides, jewelry, feathered bows, arrows. The list is endless. Judy helped me find the perfect gift, a Calvert Bowwanie carved alabaster Zuni fetish bear. I was extremely impressed by Judy's encyclopedic knowledge of all of the pottery, Kachinas, and carvings. This place is such a gem. Judy was so sweet - she offered to take me through the store and explain what was in each room (yes please!). She was like my own little tour guide that I wasn't expecting! She explained the different pieces and styles, where they came from, how they were made, who made them & how they learned the skill. It was AMAZING. We came upon Kachina House while looking for a birthday gift for our mom. We had an idea of what we wanted to get her but needed some direction in picking out the perfect gift. As soon as we entered the store, we were promptly greeted by one of the co-owners, while another co-owner assisted us in finding a personalized gift for our mother. I first visited Kachina House back in Aug, 2021. Tobi and her cute puppy welcomed us. They even let our toy poodle enter the shop (we were holding him all the time). Tobi was very passionate about Native American arts, explaining all types of art crafts to us. Tobi noticed that I'm originally from Japan and shared her experience visiting Japan in the past. I've never seen such an excellent selection in one place. This was my second time here and I bought another Kachina and a piece of horse hair pottery. I found this shop online when I was researching for my Arizona vacation. I grew up in the southwest and have a modest collection of kachina dolls. I'm certainly no expert, but I love the art form. I was looking forward to adding a few pieces to my collection and this seemed like the perfect spot. My husband and I were greeted by one of the owners who offered us a tour. She was very knowledgeable and passionate. I appreciated hearing her expertise until we reached their room of lower priced kachina dolls - I mentioned these looked similar to the style I had at home to which she replied "throw them in the garbage" and proceeded to disparage this style of kachina as cheap pieces made only for white tourists. I was very taken aback...why would she say such negative things about items being sold in her own store?? Also bizarre that this was the largest portion of the store yet apparently none of the merchandise in it was worth buying?? I left feeling very confused and uncomfortable. I would have liked to buy one of the lower priced kachinas but after being told they were essentially trash I was put off. I do think the women who own this store are knowledgeable and passionate but the experience was so bizarre that I wouldn't purchase anything or return. read more

This store is a great little hidden gem with a very large selection of kachina dolls. My wife and I travel many places to find the right dolls for our collection, Sante Fe etc. All over. So we found a very nice bear type hopi doll for healing. We are very happy and we will return to this store next time we are in Sedona. After several days of searching Sedona, I can say with certainty that this is THE shop to visit for truly authentic Native American made merchandise. No other place comes close. A lot of the merchandise is higher end but the prices are still below what you are going to find elsewhere. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and very polite. A hidden gem in Sedona. All Native American creations. You have to see it to believe it! None of that mass produced stuff you see in some of the stores at Tlaquepaque. This store buys goods directly from Native American Indians. We really enjoy that they benefit directly from our purchases. We received a guided tour when we walked in and we greatly appreciated it! This is a wonderful store for Native American art & craft souvenirs. Most of the items sold here are made by Native Americans and the tribe & artist is listed on the sale tag. Many beautiful items, pottery, carvings, kachina dolls, dream catchers, jewelry, unique items such as pipes, arrows, drums, knives etc. You get a tour of the store explaining the different items and their significance. My friends and I went to the Kachina House after I found a listing for it on TripAdvisor. We had been out looking for souvenirs for a few days, and I thought it would be worth the drive, since many of the stores seemed to have similar items and were quite costly. When we went in, I told my friends we would only stay for 10-15 minutes so we could use the pool but ended up staying nearly an hour. The store was so big and filled with so many interesting items. The two ladies there were also very helpful, giving us a brief introduction on the various rooms and where to find stuff. We stayed next door at Boots and Saddles (B&B). They suggested that we stop by Kachina House and take the "tour". The three ladies that run the place are obviously passionate about Native American artwork. The "tour" is a great overview of what they have in their many rooms (filled with artwork made by artisans on the reservation). It was completely informative - I learned a lot more about Native American art that I thought I could in a store...it was more like a museum. The best part about this place is that you know that EVERYTHING is 100% authentic. The second best part is that they sell wholesale to other area shops and to individuals - so you know you're getting a fair price. We wound up picking up a stunning Acoma Pueblo hand-built water jug and several pieces of jewelry. I highly recommend a stop by this hidden gem of a store. Skip the "uptown Sedona" or "Gallery Row" places and get an education + a great deal on artwork that goes directly back to the artisan. read more

You need to stop here if you're visiting Sedona. It was like visiting a museum; Judy gave us a tour around the store with history and information at what we were looking at. There was so much to look at that I went here twice. It was my first time in Sedona and I wanted to pick up meaningful and authentic items, and this place was it! Gorgeous jewelry, pottery, kachinas and so much more. Plus Judy was the kindest person so it was easy to learn more and feel really positive about the whole experience.
