I'm a longtime lover of jewelry, not just for the matter of adornment, but for the story. Sometime last year, after feeling totally deflated from walking into shop after shop on the strip (you know the type--pushy sales tactics, questionable quality, tourist bait), I wandered into The Humiovi. I was instantly met with calm. A kind man greeted me (his name escapes me now (I think it starts with an A?)), but I haven't forgotten the energy he brought into the space. He was grounded, genuine, and made me feel like I was in good hands. The shop itself is stunning. Prices are fair and reflect the authenticity and craftsmanship of each piece. Everything is thoughtfully curated and grouped almost like a museum exhibit--rooted in story, history, and real cultural significance. Nothing here feels mass-produced or performative. You're buying something real. I picked up a gorgeous set of Navajo pearls on that first visit (the thick strand in my photo below). And then again, just last week, I was back in Sedona and made a beeline for Humiovi. I picked up a new pair of earrings and a feather ear cuff, and to my surprise and joy, the same kind man was there again. His presence honestly transforms the entire experience. He radiates this deep kindness and humility that makes you feel seen and respected not only as a customer, but as a person. There's no swindling here. No hard sell. Just real knowledge, warmth, and respect for the craft. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but this one's for him--please remind me of your name if you see this! You made a lasting impression on me and my friends, and your energy is something we look forward to every time we come back to Sedona. The gentleman was so polite and informative, he was not pushy. He was nice enough to explain the history of the jewelry. My family and I stopped by here on our last full day visiting Sedona. I wanted a turquoise necklace and my whole family ended up buying jewelry too. Annette was very helpful to us picking out what pieces we wanted and even gave my young niece something for free since we purchased so much. I love that the jewelry came with cards that say what the symbols mean or what precious stones were used, as well as the name of the artist that made them. A couple friends from LA and I stopped in this store on our recent Sedona visit - one of my friends wanted a bracelet, and we were intrigued by the jewelry in the window. She didn't find exactly what she was looking, but the other two of us were very stoked about what we picked up (rings, necklaces and earrings). This shop has lots of silver, pieces made by Indians. There are silver rings, earrings, necklaces and various stones. One wall has a FABULOUS selection of Kachina dolls. Even if you don't want one, they're a great story. There are a lot of Native American jewelers in Sedona, and particularly on this popular street. I purchased two necklaces from this shop because A) they display all their prices B) they softly welcome you and give you a few tips on what each piece you are interested means C) they give you a card in the end that describes what the piece means D) the prices were very affordable compared to purchasing pieces like this online or any other store E) they have very good SALES!! F) they purchase directly from Native American suppliers by visiting them and getting to know their culture and each piece they purchase. G) the two ladies that worked there were very very nice and you can tell they love their job and customers!!!!!! I would come here again. My only regret is not getting more pieces because the jewelry box comes with a card explaining the piece and which tribe it originated from. Perfectly boxed to be a gift!!!! This was one of the native jewelry shops in the main road in Sedona. I also liked that they had signs informing that they work with a local native tribe. Sadly we purchased two rings there. One almost double the size of the other and what we were told was the cost was NOT what showed up on our credit card. When I called to confirm the mischarge I got the run around and was never ever refunded the difference. Beware!!!! Get a receipt. Get a sales lady name!!!! Take pictures of prices listed!!! We visit Sedona from just outside the Los Angeles area. There are so many stores in this area, but Humiovi just seems simpler and down to earth... and definitely more reasonable. I LOVE their pendant selection, but on my last trip, I bought a simple but elegant bracelet with green and bluish turquoise pebbles. I fell in love with it because it reminded me of a stream bed. I haven't seen anything like it anywhere else. I'm not one to spend easily on jewelry. Another thing is that they had a bracelet that fit my 6 1/2" wrist (almost kid size). Fantastic selection of Katchinas and Hopi Silver. I stop in here every time I am in town to see what is new. I like that I can clearly state that I am not in the market for a Katchina on a the day I am in the shop, but I still feel comfortable asking questions and discussing the art and myths with the shop lady. I can not wait for my next purchase! They have new stuff every time I am in town, If you collect Katchinas, come here, and check out the Mud Heads and warriors! A shop lady has more than enough knowledge of stones, artists and history. I bought necklaces and ear rings. They have very rare stone which is White Buffalo!!! Very rude older lady in store. Had limited knowledge of Hopi work. Claimed Calvin Peterson was Hopi (as displayed in case). When I mentioned that Calvin Peterson was Navajo she became indignant. Not wanting to make a scene, I chose to shop elsewhere. It is so hard for the Hopi silversmiths to make a living and having a person like this falsely sell Navajo art (which is quite good also) as Hopi is just not right. To prove my point, please check Calvin Peterson's website: http://stores.calvinpetersonnavajo.com/StoreFront.bok Where the web address clearly states he is Navajo. People who sell Native American art really should know the background of the artists or at least be open to people who are more knowledgeable. I have been to Hopi to work with them for the last 15 years and I only quietly made my comment before she became so indignant. I would not recommend this store at all. read more
