Açaí bowl with strawberries, bananas and chocolate
Chris S.

The place is spacious and quite large, with nice customer service. It's conveniently located near the Halsey train station, but you can also take the B60 bus heading toward Williamsburg or Canarsie to get there. I always order the açaí bowl with chocolate, strawberries, and bananas. It has a coconut base, which I really like. The price is a bit steep at around $11, especially since adding fruits only gets you about four or five pieces total. The flavor is decent, but it tastes like a standard açaí bowl made with a Ninja blender. They freeze the base overnight, so it's not freshly made, but it has a solid, ice cream-like consistency and flavor, which works well. If you're willing to spend the money--or if you use SNAP benefits, which I believe they accept since this is essentially a corner store--it's a great option. It's especially ideal if you go to the gym like I do, as the walk from here to Blink Fitness is pretty convenient. Overall, it's a health-conscious and accessible spot, so I'd give it high marks.

I also appreciated how clean and open the place was. I ended up going with the jungle fever option. It was nice and fruity and the ginger gave it a great kick. I also like how they offered coconut water as a base. I feel that a lot of smoothie places that I go to don't have much priority in this selection. Definitely a great place to check out.

However, one thing I do enjoy about the area is The Love Spread & Juice Café at 9106 Flatlands Avenue. I love their açaí bowls--especially the Cocoa Love and Nutella ones, which are classic Nutella-based bowls and always well-made. It takes about 13 minutes for them to prepare because they make everything from scratch, and the customer service has always been great. Surprisingly, it's never busy there, even though it's located right across from the gym. If you're looking for a smoothie, shake, or bowl, it's a great option. I always go for the bowls, and I've been coming here since around 2021. I highly recommend it--it's one of the best juice spots in Flatlands. I also love the mural on the wall featuring Obama, Biggie, and Maya Angelou. What I appreciate most is that it's Black-owned. The space is colorful, vibrant, and welcoming. Another great thing about this spot is that it's a healthier alternative to most options in the area. They actually have two sections--one for smoothies and açaí bowls, and another with a hot grill and salad bar. If you're looking for a fresh, nutritious meal, this is a solid choice. Expect to spend around $20, but in my opinion, it's worth it.

My co worker ordered a jerk chicken salad for me today . He says its $16 bucks, I'm thinking I'm going to get SOMETHING dazzling (alittle crouton/ idk fancy dressing/ at this point gimme some bread) and this is what I was presented with . $16.00 tho ? This salad was hardly worth it and honestly neither are their smoothies/juices. I have ordered so many smoothies from this place and its either made extremely thick (to the point I need a spoon to consume it) or extremely watery (a watered down smoothie ? Smh) I have given them constructive criticism when ordering my smoothies in the past because again, I want to support them , they're close to the hospital where I work and I hate wasting my money. From their lack of knowledge- offering wheatgrass shots and when we drink them its tiger bone (wine) to them not having a concrete recipe for any of their smoothies so I dont have to keep complaining about its consistency, Juice n Tings never really hits the way it should . I truly hate leaving poor reviews on any establishment I dine but I have to call a spade a spade , and this aint it . I'm done giving this place chances . Theres a halal salad bar one block down and for $16 bucks I can literally get the entire salad bar .

And they have the lovely patties like jerk plantain, ackee, and more. I checked the menu ahead of time, but my niece and I found ourselves studying it hard when we walked in. So many options! I decided to get a pumpkin spice patty (new to me), oxtail patty, and protein shake. My niece got a red velvet pastry and acai bowl. My patties and smoothie came out in about 10 minutes, and my niece received her pastry when we paid. The acai bowl took quite a long time, but I did notice that it was advertised as being new on their menu. The gentleman that took our order was literally the only one in the cafe, and quite a line formed after we got settled, so power to him! If you walk to the back of the cafe, you will see a door that says the patio is open, and it was a lovely area to sit at. It was hilarious to hear a rooster nearby, feeling just like the islands. The pumpkin spice patty was delicious, but the oxtail patty stole the show. It was also a Haitian style patty, so it was nice to have that since it's so rare for me. My shake had peanut butter and protein in it, so it was heavy, but it was so yummy. My niece liked her pastry and her soluble, although there was some unblended acai in there. They'll get it right. I would definitely return to this cafe, and I hope they continue to do well!

I had a very disappointing experience at Tropical Smoothie Cafe…read more The atmosphere in this location feels unwelcoming the moment you walk in. There is little to no customer service. No greeting, no acknowledgment, and the staff give off an attitude that makes it seem like customers are an inconvenience rather than the reason the business exists. The employees appear to bring a very unprofessional, street type attitude into the workplace. Instead of creating a friendly environment, the vibe inside the store feels uncomfortable and unfriendly. What makes it worse is the wait time. Even when the store is nearly empty, orders take an excessive amount of time. Waiting around 30 minutes for a smoothie or simple food order when you are the only person in the store is unacceptable. Businesses like this should understand that many of their customers come through delivery platforms and online orders. Those platforms help drive traffic and revenue. When service is slow and staff show no urgency or professionalism, it reflects poorly on the business. This location seriously needs improvements in customer service, professionalism, and efficiency. Right now the experience does not match what customers expect when they walk into a place like this.
