REVIEW FOR KAISER MOBILE BUS BASED IN NAPILI PARK ; Unfortunately my cat scratched me quite badly across the nose and scalp while I was holding him and he was spooked by a dog. It was bleeding and messy and I knew you had to be careful with cat scratches as they can become infected so I decided to visit the KP Mobile in Napili Park instead of driving an hour to the other side to get treatment. (My Drs surgery burned down in the fires and she is now based in Kihei). I was pleasantly surprised they agreed to treat me as I have a different insurance provider. They have an excellent setup at Napili with a large RV Mobile Drs office, and tents staffed by Walgreens for RXs, etc. All in one place, all free and ready to help anyone who needs it. The ladies working there were quick to sign me in, wash my wound, give me antibiotic gel to take home and a prescription for antibiotics to pick up from Walgreens. There were a number of other patients there all being well looked after, including one who had an ambulance called to admit him to hospital on the other side. It is fantastic that Kaiser are looking after the whole community on the west side, for free, with a brand new state of the art mobile medical bus and caring professional staff. I was on vacation and went in to refill a medication, only to find I had no refills. Being from out of state made it difficult to reach my provider. The pharmacist was great and went the extra mile to get a clinic doctor to reorder it for me. Mahalo nui loa!! read more

I arrived in paradise for my vacation with a slightly runny nose. Within days, I was getting much worse. Full blown sinus infection. Thankfully, I have Kaiser and I was able to call and speak with a Kaiser doctor in Southern California over the phone. She prescribed me antibiotics that I could pick up at the Pharmacy at Kaiser in Lahaina, which was 5 minutes from our hotel. Still being on California time, we arrived right when they opened at 8 am (they are not open on the weekends). The pharmacy is right near where you enter so you can't miss it. I checked in and was helped by Lyn, who was very sweet and understanding. She took my Kaiser information and also where I was staying during my vacation. I waited about 5 minutes and she called me up to the window, I paid and was on my way, with antibiotics in hand. This is a seamless experience. You check in and pay your co pay when you walk in and then go to the waiting area. Before you can catch your breath they are calling you in to talk to the nurse and get you in your room. I've never had such an easy experience like this in a doctor's office. Apparently if you have Kaiser insurance but your not a local YOU WILL NOT BE SEEN! I am extremely disappointed in this clinic and Kaiser Permanete in general. We took our sick son to this place and we were turned away due to where we are staying at. You would think having Kaiser Permanente as our insurance provider we could go to any Kaiser but that's not the case. After this experience I will be looking at other insurance carriers even if I have to pay more. read more

No stars! Screw this place. I experienced a bite or a sting while snorkeling (I am allergic to bee stings) unsure of exactly what it was my friends drove me straight to the closest hospital where I was turned away right at the door because I am not insured through Kaiser. Thank God I had my Epi pen on me however it was a scary experience being turned away from a hospital after experience an allergic reaction. I never knew hospitals could turn someone away that could be facing something life threatening. read more

Sad and very bad customer care. First, horrible PT care. After arriving for our SCHEDULED appointment, we put in our name in the "B" box as requested by a nurse who looked like somebody took a huge dump in her cereal bowl that morning. After waiting about an hour, we noticed a large amount of people who came after us starting being called. After waiting a longer time, we complained. Not surprising they couldn't find our apt. card... anywhere. Then amongst the large pile of paper behind the counter, sitting off to the side, was our registry card, and finally got to see the Dr. Not to mention their front office staff has horrible attitudes and scowls on their faces as though your a P.O.S for just showing up for a medical emergency. Also only 2 doctors on staff? While waiting in the waiting room, there were so many people coughing without masks it was near frightening. Damn... This place blows. I suggest you should rather die with respect instead of showing up here. read more

The "little things" that Kaiser does, also saves lives....after a double by-pass and temporary kidney failure about a year ago...a family trip to Maui was well earned and long over-due...!!! Left home and didn't bring enough insulin syringes, was going to be about 15, short; so a PM to my primary care doctor to authorize a pick up here in Lahaina, and efficient and friendly service from the Pharmacy staff here at the clinic, I'm all set to enjoy these last few days of our trip. Mixed mixed review. My mom wasn't feeling well at work, and called kaiser about an appointment. The answering service said it was all booked but told my mom to just go in because they can not turn anyone away. So my mom left work came to Kaiser Lahaina clinic told them that she wasn't feeling well, didn't have an appointment but was told to come in anyway. One of the receptionist in a rather rude dismissive tone kept asking her questions, "who told you to come? What was their name? Who came with you? Where is your husband to take you to hospital?" My mom answered questions and said, "I came because I'm sick" I came straight from work" My father passed away years ago. My mom was sick and couldn't answer all her questions. My mom started to tear up because all she wanted was help. The receptionist opened her chart and said, "oh _______ is your contact". She could have done that a while ago. Receptionist allowed her to see a nurse who was very helpful and took down my moms symptoms and told her to go to er. Nurse called me I contacted my cousin who came to pick her up. My mom was very discouraged and almost felt like she should just go home. Well it ended up that my mom had a stroke. Thankfully minor and the deficits were minimal. But I just have to say the receptionist who checked her in needs to learn some customer service skills. You can ask all those questions in a nice tone. People are sick coming to clinic and that person really put my mom off. She almost left, she almost didn't go to er because she was so disturbed by the way she was treated. Please treat people with respect. Especially because you are the first contact. Thank you to the awesome nurse who checked on my mom and showed her compassion and called me. read more

I've been a long time member of Kaiser on the west side. Over the years I've had my monthly premiums skyrocket every year and benefits lowered. Now I see that I can't use the Lahaina clinic on Saturday mornings as I have been able to over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if they close the Lahaina clinic altogether in the near future. For the amount of money they charge I feel they should be offering much more to their customers. Seems they forgot who pays them and how they should be treated. read more

I had to go the next day for an ear infection. We had to wait 2 hours to get a new Hawaiian Kaiser # (which will last you forever) but when we saw the Dr. She was fast asked if anyone else in the family needed anything and caught that my daughter also had strept. We showed up 15 minutes early to do some paperwork and were shown to a room only five minutes after the appointment time. The doctor came in to see our daughter a few minutes after. I appreciated his professional demeanor and his hawaiian shirt. As an aside, it's kind of weird that as a California Kaiser member, our daughter needed a separate Hawaii Kaiser number to be seen. read more

I arrived in Maui for a seven-day vacation and suddenly realized I had left my numerous medications sitting on my kitchen counter. We drove straight to Kaiser from the airport and discovered this cute little Kaiser facility. Everyone was very friendly to us, and the lady at the pharmacy was extraordinarily helpful. Her name is something like Emeline (but it has been a couple of weeks so I may be a little off on the name). She did not seem shocked or horrified that I had forgotten my pills...instead she very quickly took care of the problem and personally called me when everything was ready. I was dreading going into Kaiser because I was expecting it to be a huge headache, but instead, Emeline was extremely helpful, efficient, and friendly. I had all my medications in my hands in a very short amount of time. Kaiser should be proud to have such a helpful and kind staff member such as Emeline (Eveline?) Thank you Kaiser! read more

I am new to Kaiser due to a new Job. I haven't been w an HMO(so to speak) for awhile and heard some 'dodgy' opinions about Kaiser and their abilitiy as "good people and medicine". I set up an appointment immediately; some history, I was w HMSA and/or a top PPO plan w Blue Cross for many years prior. I set-up the appointment to get acquainted w Kaiser, a physical and obtain the stadard blood screening ( I have been feeling under the weather off and on for about a year). The clinic is clean. I like that its a 'one stop shop'; i.e., I don't I have to go somewhere else to get labs, scripts and the email/website tools for my health tracking and access to my records at the punch of the keyboard is very nice. Dr. Ouchi has been very affable and thorough. So far so good! The Negatives: hours of operations could be longer and maybe have the Lahaina clinic open at least one day on the weekends. There are other clinics which are( in all fairness), but West Maui has a large/isloated population, the 'other' clinics and ER @ MMC get clogged w patients on weekends, not to mention if there's a visitor or local who crashes on Hwy 30 between here and Kahului...well, thats the reason a lot of kids are born by paramedic on the side of road on the Pali or Thousand peaks, Olowalu etc. The "Westsiders" are at a disadvantage should a medical emergency occur( compared to the rest of the island, except the obvious very isolated areas like Hana). I do feel like once one gets established w the right doctors over a period of time within the Kaiser system, it probably can be as good (if not better than the best PPO expensive PPO program available in the islands). It's the unknown of being a new patient to Kaiser that gives me anxiety as to what I can expect and what I will get compared to treatment that has worked almost perfectly for years prior. Taking that leap of faith w your health and abandoning your old "practitioners" and trusting the Kaiser system (or any new system) is stressful. I will gladly come back to re-evaluate and update my 4 stars to 5, should my Dr. and the Kaiser network keep delivering like they have been so far. Kaiser has pleasantly surprised me and I hope this review helps answer some questions people on the fence regarding switching heath insurance providers may have. I am a prime example of someone almost willing to pay 2 insurance premiums for a few months to make certain I would be in good hands...so far I feel like I am. But trust is earned in both professional and personal relationships, so my critique should be taken w a grain of salt, as I am a brand new patient to the Kaiser system. To re-iterate, Dr. Ouchi, Dr. Abbot and the nursing staff have been nothing short of very professional and helpful; they actually seem to care and take time with me. I don't feel like a number in the day sitting in the exam room waiting for my '10 minute visit' that other doctors can be guilty of. Not all situations can be handled with haste. So far, I would give a thumbs up to the medical staff at Kaiser Lahaina. read more

We were visiting maui and are Kaiser members from California. We called the clinic to schedule an appointment for my husband to get his ears checked out after ear pain/hearing loss from water activities (OTC remedies were not working). The appointment clerk was very helpful and was able to get my husband an early appointment for ear pain that morning! The receptionist and doctor and were really nice and we were in and out in an hour with his ear fixed! We were very pleased with our visit! FYI, if you are an out of state Kaiser member, they will give you a temporary Hawaii number (just a little bit of paper work or additional information you will need to give over the phone when you schedule your appointment). read more

I was on vacation and of course lost my prescription in the midst of getting here. My own Kaiser back home WAS NO HELP! (Southern California). Absolutely waste to call them or even attempt to ask for anything. But, the pharmacists and doctors at this location were able to help me, refill my prescription, give me loads of information and talk me off the frustration ledge so to speak; so I could get back and enjoy my time in this beautiful place! My son received the best care. First appointment took him in and made a prescription. He Has had ear issues and this time as well, the next day increased pain in his ear and we had a fight to catch and short of time. They had us come in on a Saturday checked him in immediately, made a prescription to help him. had us out and on the way to the airport with time to spare. We have been coming to Lahaina for many years and unfortunately have needed the care of a doctor on several occasions. The people who answer the phone, the reception staff, the doctors, and the pharmacists have all been very pleasant and extremely helpful. I have been using Kaiser Lahaina Clinic for the past 3 years...in my 32 years of living I have never seen front office staff with such poor bedside manner. They are rude and give better treatment to local patients than patients from the mainland. There is clear racism present at this clinic. Office staff who are empathic and understanding and don't have a "local" chip on their shoulder should be hired. This type of treatment gives Kaiser Clinic and Insurance a very bad reputation. read more

This facility itself gets five stars. I like everything about it. My one star rating is due to their association with Apria Healthcare who is unreachable on Maui by phone. You need to drive almost an hour to Kahalui to get help in person. Apria at every level as far as customer service and administration is rude and incompetent. With them, the customer is always wrong. We have insurance at Kaiser and live in Lahaina. After the past month of issues we have decided to start going to a clinic on the other side of the island. We are unable to get appointments (for reg scheduled appointments they make it and mail you a card, doesn't matter if it doesn't fit your schedule). I went in for a lab test and after 50 minutes of waiting for the results and my 1 year crying for 15 of those minutes and me asking multiple time how much longer or if they can call me with the results (and they said no) someone else FINALLY came over and asked if they could just call me with the results seeing how my baby was crying. Give me a break, one person in the whole building can do something right?!?! They should shut this clinic down or get new staff that knows how to work with people and run a business. read more

I've been to this clinic many times and each time I've had less than satisfactory experiences, particularly with the front office staff. One receptionist in particular is extremely rude, not that I expect a bright and shiny smile from each and every one of them, but her attitude towards me was off setting and made me very uncomfortable, doing things like cutting me off in the middle of my sentence and giving me an answer to what she assumed was my question before I got the chance to explain, having a sour look on her face when I approach the counter and just being overall unpleasant. The others are usually helpful, but I often find myself going to the same person every time to check in or out because she's the only one who is consistently friendly and helpful. The pharmacy staff isn't much better, a few weeks ago I waited over an hour for my prescription, much of the waiting was due to issues with the dosage and completely out of their hands, but whenever I would try to ask a question she would cut me off and tell me to "have a seat". I can't tell you how many times I've been told to just have a seat despite having just gotten up from that very seat I had been waiting in for two hours. Yes, I waited two hours for a prescription to be filled and to be taught how to administer an injection, something that shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes given I called in advance to make sure that there was no discrepancy as to whether the prescription would be ready or not because it wouldn't be the first time I arrived and no one had a clue about what I needed for that appointment. In the meantime the pharmacist had no problem chatting it up with another kaiser member about phone cases and the weather while there were other people waiting to get their prescriptions filled, yet was so busy it was necessary to completely ignore me and my inquiries as to why I had been waiting for an hour already. The nursing staff is always friendly, but they seem to be a bit scattered sometimes and I can never get a hold of their station on the phone. There have been times when I can get in and get out without any issues, but that'd probably be 1 in 5 times at best. I honestly dread going to this clinic. Shotty customer service, but I'll reiterate on how friendly the nurses are, they're always pleasant and helpful. read more

I was on vacation In Maui from Oregon and developed a foot injury on Friday evening. I called Oregon on a Saturday morning for Nurse advice and was told no advice could be given because of Nurse license issues regarding location. I had noticed the Kaiser clinic in Lahaina and called for nurse advice at 9 A.M Saturday. After speaking with the Nurse she determined that I had to be seen that day. I arrived at the clinic at 11:00 A.M. and by 11:30 I was sitting in an exam. room. This was a Saturday morning to remind you. I was just settling in my chair and Dr. Abbott came in to see me. She was very pleasant and thorough in my treatment. I have never felt more at ease with a Dr. in the 20 years of being a member. The Nurse that wrapped my injury was Luz Johnson whom I found to be very gental and concerning. I had a return visit at 8:20 Monday morning for a recheck where I again experienced EXTRA-ORDINAIRE care from the same two health providers.
