I'm on Maui for Thanksgiving and left one of my scripts (which is a can never miss) on Oahu (non-controlled). The prescribing physician (my psychiatrist) is out of office because of Thanksgiving. Uh oh! Longs sent me here, where they friendly greeted me, took my ID & insurance and had me fill out the standard paperwork. I was seen by a nurse & PA within 20 minutes and was out the door within 30 minutes. They were able to send a 7 day supply to the Longs nearby. I was frazzled and was worried about having to fly back to Oahu to get the script. These people were SO NICE and compassionate. 100% would come back. read more

Well, since no one will answer the phone at their billing department, here I am. My boyfriend and I won a very very inexpensive trip to a hotel in Kaanapali, Maui. Unfortunately, on our last night there, my boyfriend came down with a 102 degree fever, and our flight was the next morning out of Maui back to Los Angeles. Thankfully, or so I thought, I found an urgent care that was conveniently located across the street from our hotel in a shopping center, who I called immediately and asked if my boyfriend's insurance PPO policy was in network with them. The girl immediately said yes, and I said great and sent him over there as I packed all our belongings in a hurry into our rental car to somehow try to do everything on my own with a very sick boyfriend who couldn't function whatsoever and not miss our flight. I was extremely grateful that the urgent care was able to take him so quickly, was in network with his insurance, and prescribed him medications on the spot next-door at the supermarket pharmacy. This day for me was absolute hell, not to mention my boyfriend who was severely ill. He paid his co-pay at the time and we thought at the most we may get a small bill later on. The bill I've repeatedly received in the mail for him is in the amount of $605.26. If you caught the earlier part of my review, you'd notice I mentioned that we WON a very inexpensive trip to Maui. My boyfriend and I can't afford a lot, let alone a $600 urgent care bill. With that said, it has been around five months or so since our trip. We have received this bill numerous times in the mail. We have called the phone number on the bill more times than I care to count and left more voicemails than I can remember at this point. We have not received a single call back. No one will respond to us and so now I've decided to succumb to our last resort, a yelp review. Maybe they'll notice this, but doubtful. Since you keep choosing to mail us the same bill over and over again and refuse to get on the phone with us, you'll be receiving a check in the mail for $1 because that's what we can afford at this time and because your staff are ill informed when asked if someone's policy is in network. I work in healthcare, I know how it works and what you're obligated to tell a patient ahead of time. No one informed either of us at the time that we may get an outstanding bill in the mail in this amount after the fact, no one mentioned anything about deductibles or out of state or any of the above, which had they we might have made a different decision that day. This bill is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that nobody will return a phone call is absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure all of the 4 and 5 star reviews posted here are pre bill in the mail once they've returned home. If anyone from Doctors On Call is actually reading this, know that we have tried repeatedly to get your billing department on the phone to no avail, there's no email contact provided, and a check in the amount of $1 is what is on its way in the mail. If you are on vacation in Maui and you get sick with a fever, I highly encourage you to go buy Tylenol to bring your fever down and other over the counter medications until you get home, and do NOT go to this urgent care. For reference, my boyfriend works FOR Anthem Blue Cross and has the best PPO policy through Anthem Blue Cross offered, and this is still what this urgent care is trying to bill us. So if you think you have a better PPO than he does and that this won't be you... think again. read more

I've been to this office twice this week. The receptionist, nurses and doctors are all extremely kind, helpful and personal. They are efficient, it was a quick visit both times. I highly recommend this urgent care. Everything seems clean and sanitary. Sick people are initially seated outside on benches until checked by a nurse. The only name I caught was Dr Fossil. Thank Goodness for Urgent Care! On vacation in Maui, staying at Papakea. After a light rain, I came down stairs from the 4th floor to see my hubby who was barbequing at the pool. I stepped down to the 2nd floor landing, and slipped, coming down on my elbow. The cut was deep enough to worry about and luckily an urgente care clinic was just across the street. This was during COVID restrictions. The system they set up was efficient, the facility was immaculate and Dr. Tia was great. They took an xray to rule out a fracture, gave me a tetnus shot, and stitched it up with 3 stitiches. Good to know there's a good clinic nearby, as you and yours frollic on the water, under the water, and around the water. Thanks, DOC! read more

My experience was outstanding. There's nothing worse than having to go to urgent care while you're on vacation. I was the 2nd one in line when they opened at 8:00 a.m. and was out of there within 30 - 40 minutes. Dr. Fussel was absolutely fantastic! He was personable and answered every question I had. Later in the day, I realized I needed an additional prescription and waited after hours and came out to the front door and met me with it in hand so I could get to the pharmacy before it closed He went above and beyond. While on vacation in Maui, my husband twisted his ankle off an uneven sidewalk in front of a restaurant. When we returned to our lodging, we noted the Doctors On Call urgent care clinic literally across the street but, as it was Sunday, it was closed, re-opening Monday. It's proximity was primarily why we chose it over driving an hour to Maui Memorial Hospital, (in addition to what we anticipated would be hours waiting to be seen in their ER). We did call to ensure DOC had X-rays on site, then checked in and were seen in a timely manner, spending a little more than 2 hours there. The employees were friendly and updated us frequently while waiting to be seen. Dr Fussel (sp?) who examined my husband was very knowledgeable and empathetic. He reviewed the X-ray which showed no break and assured us it was likely a severe sprain (due to the swelling and skin discoloration). Dr F offered us a walking boot, as well as crutches, which we declined because DOC didn't accept our insurance and the prices were a bit inflated (see below). They did wrap my husband's foot with an ace bandage before we departed. The reason I gave 4 stars vs 5 is (I believe) the cost for services is inflated and - because they didn't accept our insurance - it was an out of pocket expense. I'm an ultrasound tech and I don't believe a 3-view foot X-ray should cost $283.78. The bill also included $199 for the office visit, an additional charge of $29 for "Services Prov An Urgent Car", & $18 for an ace bandage: total cost - $530. Otherwise, in order to get a quick answer prior to departing the island, I do recommend DOC. read more

Got up at 3:30 in the morning with a very sick child (deep green sputum and rhonchi), needed antibiotics for him. We did a ton of research and set appointments for 8:20 a.m. Both my wife and I are in frontline health care and knew exactly what we needed. We got a virtual appointment, and the physician would not prescribe antibiotics without an in-person visit. He said he was very "antibiotic averse." What is the point of a virtual visit if you won't prescribe medication? Absolute scam. I'm sure he'll come on here and try to explain himself with a follow-up review, but it was absolutely ridiculous. Not prescribing pain medications would be understandable, but basic antibiotics for a pediatric is laughable. read more

I have a lot of tightness in my neck and cramping top to toes. Concerned that I could be a candidate for a stroke. I was taken very seriously. First an x-ray & blood work. After lots of questions, an evaluation determined P-T might relieve the tension in my neck. Seven days later, I have a P-T Plan & Appts. to help with arthritis, cramping & sleep deprivation. The Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, and Technician are top notch with very friendly, assuring attitudes. I couldn't have asked for better caring service. DOC takes most Insurances and Medicare. read more

Why 3 stars? Because it's good for a quick fix, but if you have something a bit different, I recommend an alternative. --- --- --- You know what's most awesome? Going to Hawaii. You know what the one thing that would make going to Hawaii suck? If you get sick there. Our trip was a few days in Tokyo, followed by a couple in Maui before we came back home. Amazing, right? But unfortunately I caught a horrible stomach bug on our last day in Tokyo. After a miserable flight across the Pacific and hoping that just being in Hawaii would magically make me feel better, we opted to head to see a doctor. We assumed I'd caught the flu, but the flu test came back negative. While that was good in a way, now we were dealing with a bit of a mystery. The doctor told me that there was nothing that they could do and that I just had to wait it out. Fast forward 8 days later and I'm back home and still feeling miserable. I eventually went to the ER, where they gave me an IV and gave me a couple different prescriptions. Wouldn't you know it, but a couple of days later, I was suddenly better! While I understand that reviewing a doctor can be difficult because no doctor has a 100% success rate with these things, she was incredibly confident that medicine would do nothing for me. And at the ER, they knew it was a no-brainer that I needed antibiotics. I appreciate the convenience of Doctors on Call, but in retrospect, I should have just gone to the ER in Maui as soon as we landed. read more

Very mixed messages regarding covid travel testing. the clinic only allows walk in appointments, however they don't tell you that if you do not present by 8am the morning of you will Not be given a slot for the day. so it is by appointment only, however you must present in person on the day you would like to be tested in order to make an appointment and roll the dice that you will receive a slot. when I presented to the clinic yesterday to confirm how to get my pre-travel covid test performed I was told to "present at some point during the day and you'll get your test, no problem". when I showed up first thing in the morning this morning the line was around the block and the nurse was angrily explaining to hordes of people that they were fully booked for the day. Understandably there were loads of people confused and stressed out (me included) people because we were told to rock up casually for the 15 minute turn around PCR test. by the time it was clear we would not be getting a covid test with Doctors on Call Lahaina it had become extremely hard to find any appointment slots anywhere on the island, making the whole process incredibly stressful. at the end of the day i got sucked into the apparent convenience of Doctors on Call Lahaina and it ended up causing me an inordinate amount of stress on one of my last days of vacation. save yourself the headache and book an appointment with the Lono centre (Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii) in Kahului. I went to DOC twice during my recent vacation to Hawaii and I couldn't be happier with their care. I had quite bad swimmers ear and the second time I came to them I was in a lot of pain. Their calm and compassionate manner helped me to calm down a lot. Thankfully they took my california insurance and I had a $15 copay. They sent the medicine right over to the nearby Walgreens and I picked it up with no trouble. They gave me oral and otic antibiotics and my swimmers ear cleared up right in time for my plane trip home. Both times I went to DOC there was less than a 10 minute wait and the advanced practice nurse who took care of me was very nice and knowledgeable. I feel safe knowing that on future vacations if I have any medical trouble I will know where to go. read more

I've been in the medical field for the past 35 years as a provider/practitioner/owner and I've never experienced such a professional team and environment. There has not been one urgent care facility, in Los Angeles, that I've been in that comes close to the quality of care and expertise that I've experienced at the Lahaina "Doctor on call Maui". I give special attention to Tia, the physicians assistant, who assisted me for a infected upper extremity, red and significantly swollen (? spider bite). After her comprehensive evaluation her treatment reversed my condition to 75%-80% improvement within 24 hours. She followed up with me and I was off and running doing everything I wanted. All I can say, "Top notch, professional experts in the field of medicine along with wonderful tender loving care"! Lahaina location I broke 2 toes while saying at the Montage. It was May 4 and we were headed to Lahaina the next day for the second part of our anniversary trip. The hotel told me to go to Docs on Call and be there at 7:50 so I could be seen right away once they opened at 8AM. It was a perfect experience. The doctor, Jenny Sullivan, RN and X-ray technician could not have been more efficient. I told them that I only had a few hours as I needed to be at the ferry by noon. We got everything done with plenty of time to spare. The x-ray did not show any fractures so they sent out to the radiologist and then called me 24 hours later to tell me that the toes were broken. Because the doc suspected this I already had received treatment and a boot and crutches so was fully prepared. It was an awesome and unexpectedly great experience and they even made me coffee! read more

The person (Diana Bowman) only gave me a pain pills and cough medicine without any diagnosis. I wish I checked the reviews before I went there. Used this clinic at Shops of Wailea location to get COVID tested for international travel purposes and they seemed extremely helpful. Had rapid antigen test performed here for $93 after receiving a negative result earlier this morning with different clinic that would not provide proper paperwork for travel. This clinic uses Quidel QuickVue rapid antigen testing, which gave me a false POSITIVE! Only 83% effective. They offered to do NAAT testing at no charge, which concluded I was not COVID positive, but would not work for my travel. They were just about to do second rapid test when I decided to come back next day for upcoming travel dates/timing (within 24 hour window). Upon arriving the next day they charged me again for testing stating policy and were rude. No one even checked my ID, which is also policy! read more
