Bullshit tire company. They take all day just to do a 10-15 minute simple job to fix a flat tire. Ridiculous. They also charge you nearly $40 for it. A car rental for a whole day costs a minimum of $75, and if you factor in the consequential cost of being without a car, thus not being able to get to work or being late, it would cost even more.... KalTire North Hill is terribly disorganized and inconsistent. Since this is the closest automotive shop to where I live, I have given them several chances for the sake of convenience, but it has barely ever proven to be worth it. Some examples of bad service are rarely answering or returning phone calls and mixed messages from different employees on when to drop off my car or to whether to schedule an appointment, which resulted in me being sent away and told to come back several times. In another instance, I was told a specific time to come pick up my vehicle and the work was not even started. They told me to wait at the shop for my car to be serviced as it should be completed shortly, and this turned into a greater than 2 hour wait one morning while I was supposed to be at work, without a single update or apology from any employee until I was extremely frustrated. Finally, I recently dropped off my car for a few small maintenance items (oil change, tired swap, wheel alignment), not only did they forget to do my wheel alignment, but they also left my headlights on in their lot so my battery was completely drained by the time I tried to pick it up. I feel embarrassed for going back so many times. read more

Took my car in for an oil change. They noted that my front brakes had to be replaced and quoted me 700$. Then they called me back to tell me that based on the engine, they would require an additional 2 hours of labor to do the brakes and upped my quote to 1000$. They also quoted me 86$ to replace my tail lights and turn signals. I called the GM dealer to ask for a quote to get the front brakes done and they said $445. When I called Kal Tire to tell them I could get the brakes done for half what they quoted me the girls response was "if you can get the work done cheaper somewhere else, then you should go somewhere else". Obviously I took my truck to the GM dealer to get the work done at 1/2 the price. While my truck was in at GM, they noted that my rear breaks were cracked and I had a leak in my rear differential. They commented that anyone should have been able to advise me that my rear breaks also need to be replaced. They also only charged me 15$ to replace the bulbs. Moral of the story, if you're going to get anything other than on oil change or tire rotation, shop elsewhere!!! Also, the service advisor at Kal Tire was unable to tell me if my tires had been rotated as part of the oil change service or not. All in all, a real bad experience here. read more

I brought my car to Kal Tires to have my winter tires installed. I gave them lots of time, was not in a rush and came back three days later. When I got there at the time they suggested, they could not find my tires (the all seasons they took off) and they left me standing there while they spent no less than 30 minutes hunting for the tires. They then asked me to go outside in this giant tire disposal bin and identify my tires. Right!! I don't even know what kind of tires they are other than they come on an Audi Q7. It was -30 outside and here I am standing by a tire bin in the dark. If it wasn't so stupid, it would be funny. They did not even suggest they bring the car around when we were finally finished. They just said, "It is over there behind the building somewhere." He really said "somewhere." I have to say it was the worst experience I have had at a place like this. I appreciate it was a busy time of the year but frankly I don't care. It is the business they are in and every year between October and December they are busy. They should be happy not treat their customers like we are an imposition. To add insult to injury they charged me twice as much as it cost me last year at another place - $150 vs. $80. I went to them 2 mths ago to fix wobbly tires on my truck so they did an alignment. The wobble came back so I went yesterday to have it fixed. They told me I had to replace my tires (my tires were less than a year old). When I picked my truck up, they told me I needed to come back to fix my inner tie rod end + r&r tie rod end inner (+ another alignment... $606.32) or the wobble would return. They scammed me into buying a new set of tires ($1146) and didn't fix the problem. I will NEVER use them again and neither should you. Got new all weather tires, called and asked about alignment and they said they would only do it if necessary. When I came to pick up my vehicle and saw the alignment report, all were within range, but they performed the alignment anyways charging me the full price for them ~$140. Their excuse was, even though it was in spec the like to keep them as centred as possible and the work was already performed so I should pay it. Also I found many scratch marks down the passenger side all new, you could tell it was freshly scraped. Some just the top coat but in some spots down to the metal. Manager came out and just shrugged saying he didn't know what caused the marks but it was just a risk of parking in a public lot. Saying all their doors and posts are painted bright orange so if there was any scrape and paint transfer that they would be responsible but as there was no transfer he couldn't do anything for me. Not how I expected my car to be treated after spending close to $900 here! I guess the work still got done, mounted, balanced, installed ok but didn't walk away happy. TLDR: Charges for unnecessary work, doesn't take responsibly for damage while car was in their care. Wouldn't recommend this location! read more

Went in to get some new tires. They had the brand I was looking at and they recommended them. Service was quick and the folks were friendly and helpful. Plus I think I get free tire rotations there now. The downsides was they "found" a number of mechanical issues that they said they should fix that totalled about $2,000. My response was why didn't you tell me this BEFORE you put on $900 of new tires? Took my vehicle to another mechanic who confirmed that only HALF the things they said needed to be done actually needed to be done. And to boot, the tires are bunk (Nokian). Although I think this is not really Kal-Tire's fault as all the research said they were good. read more

I have amended my review from 1 star to 2 in light of my conversations with the head office, who contacted me by phone following my complaint made directly to them. They did so promptly. I would like to thank Adam at the head office customer service and Mike, who contacted me after I spoke to Adam who is in charge of the store I had my poor experience at. Mike was not present during the incident as I understand he was actually at the head office in meetings, however he called me right away and made sure he reached me. I have received an apology for the poor service and for the mistakes made. Mike was surprised by my story and has assured me that he will be speaking with the person in question about this experience. I am happy to say that I feel for my part that this has been resolved and I am content with the resolution that was offered to me however I remain guarded about returning with my business. Below is my original review: They have accused me of not knowing what I'm talking about and have accused my mechanic of trying to swindle me when in reality they don't actually know what they're doing. I had previous small complaints about the place. Leaving my car in the lot unlocked, leaving my back hatch open so my battery died. But I considered these minor inconveniences and due to the busy location and overworked employees (and there is a little trick sometimes to closing my hatch) However there is no excuse for what happened this time. A few weeks ago I discovered bad and uneven wear on my tires on my 2004 Volvo XC70. The person at Kal Tire suggested it was an alignment issue and I agreed so we booked it in for an alignment. They gave it back to me two days later, charged me for the alignment and I was on my way. Both of these people were polite and effecient and representative of what my previous experiences had been. So generally positive. But the car was not aligned, or rather it didn't feel aligned. In fact it jerked violently to the right every time I accelerated beyond 2500rpm. So I called up my mechanic, someone who has been fixing my family's cars since my dad raced rally cars. A good, licensed, certified, trusted mechanic who just happens to be a family friend as well. I brought my car in for him to test drive and he suspected that is was my control arm bushing. Sure enough when he jacked up my volvo by the body there was obvious play in the wheels. My control arm bushings on both sides were torn and the ball joints were shot. All normal for my car's mileage. The problem? Kal Tire should have never done an alignment on a vehicle in that condition. Both front wheels are completely unstable. So my mechanic put the parts on order and I took my car, with his work order and diagnosis back over to Kal Tire at North Hill Mall and asked to speak to a manager. I showed him the paperwork from my mechanic and he took the car into the shop to see if they could find play in the tires. When they took me to the back to look they had my car up on the lifts and asked me to show them the play in the wheels. There was no play. The reason there was no play was because their lift supports the car by the lower control arms, which is the part that is broken. By supporting the broken parts they stabilized the wheel. I told them their lift was stopping the play. They said there is no other way to lift a car. There is, by the body, as it should be done on a volvo, not by the control arms. The Kal Tire employee, as I tried to explain the problem, kept challenging me to "prove it" and "show him" in a very hostile tone. He would not accept that it was the lift that was stabilizing the wheel and would not accept that the parts my mechanic pinpointed the problem with were the issue. I told them to take my car down and I called my mechanic. I put my mechanic on the phone with the kal tire employee so my mechanic could explain to him how to find the problem and that lifting a volvo by the control arms is not the correct way to work on that vehicle. I watched as he rolled his eyes and smiled and nodded and said "ok man" to my mechanic. He then handed the phone back to me and walked away without saying anything further to me. Overall the acting manager was hostile and condescending. Could not explain why an alignment wouldn't hold on my vehicle if everything was fine, and suggested that my mechanic was trying to pull a fast one on me. I was refused a credit for the alignment that should have never been done and I was treated like a stupid girl who doesn't know what she's talking about. I don't think I'll go back and I will be filing a formal complaint with Kal Tire head office. Minor annoyances and carelessness is one thing, but this was blatant disrespect and a show of a complete lack of knowledge of vehicles they claim to be able to service. I am disgusted by the way I was treated and the way the acting manager spoke to me and to my mechanic. read more

Really wonderful service. We have taken our vehicles in for winter tires, new tires, brakes, and a flat tire over the last couple of years. The front desk staff on different visits were really helpful and super efficient. The service is leaps and bounds better than what we receive at our dealership service centres. Today I took my car in with a flat thinking I would have to leave it for a few days. Tires were found at another location, brought in and installed within the afternoon! read more

I have experienced shockingly bad service three inside a month. (1) Came in first time with a Flat tire - The tire was showing signs of bulging, so I decided to replace all 4 Tires. Asked them to check brakes at same time. Waited all day for the call to let me know the car was ready - finally just before closing I go to collect the car only to find the brand new spare which was on the vehicle at the time was missing. They had removed and decided that it was to be disposed of. The brakes were not inspected and I had to come back the following day to collect the spare and torque. (Total - 7 Hours) (2) Arrive to collect the spare and torque - and no-one knows anything about the spare wheel. They torque the wheels and I wait in -20 degrees for them to bring the spare wheel back. Turns out it was still in the discard pile and had not been put back on the the rim which was also still missing. Another 60 minute wait for them to find everything and get it back on the rim - and when eventually do I get it back - they roll the tire to the car and disappear inside leaving me to get the spare back on the back of the car. (Total 1.5 Hours) (3) Less than 400km in and I get another flat wheel. I noticed that one of the lock nuts was not threading straight (by hand) - so only 4 were replaced and I left the 5th off. Since the Tire it is still under "Warranty" and inside 30 days, I return to Kal Tire to sort the problem out. I end up in an argument about the lock nut - they say the car is OLD and it is normal wear and tear - yet they were the last to touch this and should have picked it up if it was cross-threading. They eventually agree to sort the problem out and start the clock to kill time waiting. I get the call to say my car is ready only to return to find the Spare wheel still on the vehicle. They have "replaced" the bolt but they have forgotten about the main problem of a flat wheel on a brand new tire. Start the clock again and kill some more time - and eventually I get another call to say that the car is now ready. Apparently, they have repaired a puncture - the less than 30 days warranty wording is "Road Hazard Protection: Any of the tires which fail and in our opinion are not repairable due to road hazard damage like cuts, bruises, and punctures, will be replaced with a comparable new tire within the first 30 days of purchase at no charge, excluding balancing.". We are not allowed in the back - so one has to take their word that there was indeed a puncture and that the bolt was in fact replaced. (Total Time: 6 Hours). I am left with a concern at the back of my mind that the problem is covered up and that I am going to face the same issue in the near future! I am suspicious that they are covering up a cross-threaded bolt and have "repaired" a tire with a problem which may have been due to a problem with the rim (same issue twice inside a month) and possibly a damaged "new" tire due to the stopping on the highway during the flat wheel incident. With the whole series of events that transpired - I cannot help but distrust them. read more

I've been going to this KalTire location for about 6 years now. They've done tire changes, tire repairs and other mechanical fixes. I've found them quick and efficient. They are transparent about their fees and have answered all my questions using language I can understand. read more

We have come here twice in the last 6 months (3 sets of tires and brakes). INCREDIBLE SERVICE! (and I am very hard to please). Napooh's tire knowledge outshone mine and I was talked into a new brand after being a Blizzak freak for over a decade. Love the new Nokian's, love the new Michelin summer rubber and they beat my dealers price for brakes by $200 while still using Mazda parts. Grumpy hubby was so impressed, he left them a big box of chocolates (that alone is an accolade). I did try to call CDN Tire for a quote, but got put on hold 4 times and no one came back. These guys were knowledgable, always happy to take extra time explaining the new rubber with me, and quick. I LOVE THIS LOCATION, and will be back! read more

Criminals! I'm writing this on my friends behalf, as I was the one who stupidly recommended this shop to him. He took his truck there for an out of province inspection and they tried to rob him blind, fortunately he is a mechanic himself and could call them out on their bullshit. They were trying to get $3600 out of him for all his 'repairs' although it only cost a small fraction of that ($400 from another shop). For example they wanted over $1000 dollars for a whole new axle assembly when all it needed was a $50 dollar u joint, and a ton of other things where they tried to rip him off at every corner. Clearly they thought he was just some stupid young kid that they could take advantage of, and I feel bad for the people that don't know any better and pay what these criminals ask for. So ladies and gentlemen do your homework before giving any shop money and do yourself a favour and NEVER go to this Kal Tire location. read more

Incredibly terrible service... comical in fact. Almost like they go out of their way to mess things up. This shop is very close to where we live... and with only one vehicle, we find it very convenient for picking up/drop off... so we have given them the benefit of the doubt and returned several times... every time terrible service... we will NOT be back again. This time, my husband talked to a tech and made arrangements for them to fix a problem we already had diagnosed. The part needed was going to be ordered and ready to be installed when we brought in the vehicle. Needless to say, after picking up the vehicle... unnecessary work was done, and the problem we asked to be fixed was not. The part had not even been ordered... and to top that off... we were told they do not fix that problem at their location... we had to take it to another Kal Tire. Big waste of time... and the same thing that has happened on past visits. Arrangements are made to ensure the parts needed are ordered and have arrived at the shop BEFORE we bring in the vehicle... we are assured that the parts have arrived... and when come to pick up the vehicle... we find out they simply diagnosed a problem that was previously diagnosed... no record on the file of the part being ordered at all... problem not fixed... and told they can NOW order the part... and the vicious circle begins, and never ends with a fixed vehicle. This was my first time going to Kal Tire. I needed to buy new winter tires and rims. After online shopping multiple tire shops internet sites, Kal Tire by far had the most convenient and intuitive site i could find that allowed you to select tire and rim packages with the best variety i could find online. So i went with them and they were very helpful in helping me pick the right package to buy. This was the high point of my experience and it goes down hill from there. I dropped my car off first thing in the morning before going to work fully expecting my car to be ready for pick up by the end of the day. I received a call notifying me that they would have to order special sensors for each tire for additional cost which was fine. I go to pick up my care at the end of the day and the manager tells me it's not ready because they were waiting all day for these sensors. It's 4:30pm at this time and he clearly tells me that the sensors arrived 2 hours earlier. Ok, they are clearly busy, the store is buzzing with customers and it is the busy season so fine, after he guarantees me that my car will be ready in maximum 45 minutes i sit and enjoy some of the complimentary popcorn. 2 hours later i am finally informed that my car is ready...the manager is even kind enough to acknowledge my wait and offers me additional discounts on my invoice, awesome. Like i said, it's the busy season, yaddayadda...if this is the worst that happens to me today then i'm doin great...these guys are tryin their best i figure. The tires and rims look great and i drive home. After pulling into my drive way i get out and notice that the truck is noticeably dipping on the drivers side. The front drivers side tire is nearly completely flat...i go to the nearest gas station to fill it up and 3 out of 4 tires are severly under pressured with the most noticeable one being nearly flat. This is ridiculous...a company with the word TIRE in its name should not be making these dangerous amatuer mistakes on services that they should be able to do in their sleep in my opinion, i don't care how busy it is. I am afraid to wake up tomorrow morning to discover at least one of the tires completely flat...although i would not be surprised. While waiting my 2 hours at the store, i was shocked to see and over hear a number of people coming in and complaining about recent work they have had done at that store. This put a very uneasy feeling in my mind on top of the frustration that i was already experiencing. Well the unease i felt listening to other peoples service complaints quickly materilized for me. I will never go back to this location and possibly never use Kal Tire again after the horrendous service i just experienced.
