Spoke to Brett of the owner's group after. They are now using manual credit card slips to ensure that no client has to go to a cash machine to pay for a bill in case their electronic credit card authorization systems go down again. Have decided to increase their rating to average in response. Bought snow tires at Kal tire North Hill store. When it came time to pay for the tires, their credit card authorizations machines did not work. I overheard the clerk tell the manager that they tried several times earlier in the morning and it didn't work before plus they reset the machines. I had eft the vehicle about an hour earlier for installation. The manager then told me that I had to pay cash $1800 for the tires. He apologized and said there was a bank machine in the mall. I asked why isn't there a backup system that allows manual authorization of the credit cards using a human operator. I was NOT impressed. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED BEFORE I DROPPED OFF THE CAR, THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN ME THE OPTION OF COMING BACK ANOTHER TIME INSTEAD OF BLACKMAILING CUSTOMERS INTO PAYING CASH FOR A LARGE PURCHASE. I don't know about everyone else; I don't lug two grand worth of cash around. Had they TOLD me that earlier, I would have come back - it was Sept 23 NOT Dec 23. They probably took one look at my Mercedes Benz GLB and said tough go get the cash. I'm giving this ONE star review for a total LACK of preparedness on the franchise's part on TWO ITEMS: FIRST, they did NOT warn the client you would have to pay cash when they KNEW there was a problem with the CC authorization machines - so I could have gone earlier while waiting for the vehicle to get the cash, and SECOND, they need to have back up systems for the customer not to be inconvenienced to the point of NOT having his/her vehicle back on time. Of course the customer DOESN'T matter anymore with Kal Tire - like I said if you appear to have the capability, you need to pony up - typical socialist attitude. read more

I would give these guys 0 stars if it was possible. Dropped off my wife's SUV to have winter tires removed and summer tires installed (both sets are on rims. Rims are 3 years old, tires are 1 year old. The reason I went to Kal Tire is that the summer rims are 24" and I have had disappointing results having them balanced. Kal Tire has a "road force" balancing machine. The problems started when I was called and informed my 3 year "summer only" rims were buckled and bent and that my 2 year old brake pads were worn out. Since I was sure neither situation was true I instructed the tech to install the wheels and I would have my regular mechanic look the problems. Upon arriving to pick up the vehicle I paid. I then discovered that 2 of the center caps were missing. After inquiring, back in the shop, the counter person spoke with a tech and informed me they would not stay on. We both walked to the truck to inspect the caps and found that the Allen bolt holding them on had been broken through on both caps. I asked for an explanation and replacement. I was redused and told that theyvwere broken when I brought them in, which is ridiculous. The caps were not falling off when they were removed last fall. Mark Murphy showed me a grainy, edited video of his tech attempting to install them, which solved nothing. I gave the manager the opportunity to rectify the situation, but he refused (because I was upset that he was blaming me). DO NOT get any work done at this shop. They will try to upsell you unneed repairs, and when you refuse, break a part of your vehicle in the hope if getting at least one upsell. Edit: I received a call from Dan (Regional Manager) today. He assured me that Kal Tire is commited to rectifying the situation. I had already ordered replacement center caps and Dan insisted on reimbursing me for the cost. i explained that my main concern was the way I was treated, and that the situation could have been avoided. He assured me he would be discussing the issue with the Douglasdale manager and, again, insisted on paying for the replacements. I agreed and forwarded the receipt. thanks Dan! read more

WELL THEY DID IT AGAIN, this was been the third time I've gone to Kal Tire, once in Salmon Arm, 2nd in Kelowna, and now 3rd time in N.W. Calgary on Crowfoot Way, And every time the staff have been simply AMAZING, Sincere and they really cared, their work is excellent and prices fair. Jeff Chiasson looked after my car, gave be a quote and time it would take, and he was perfect on both. This review is for the Douglas Dale, Kal tire:, Unlike the time back in 2020 at the 52nd Kal tire branch they filled all four of my tires pressure to 60PSI. Unbelievable, It's suppose to be 32PSI. I don't get that, It's your only job. I noticed an attitude I didnt appreciate at the time, at this branch. Soooo, I decided to give the Douglas Dale branch a shot this time Because Kal Tire is the only one that sells Nokian tires. I had Nokian tires and rims put on and I worked at the Enterprise Rent-a-car, so I got a great deal on them too. No issues whatsoever. Everything was bagged and tagged and the tires were properly filled to exact pressures. The shop was very helpful and friendly. And the girl that helped me was awesome. But by the time I quit Enterprise, they weren't too friendly to me any more. I'm guessing it must had something to do with being an Enterprise employee. Also, the friendly girl that sold me my tires wasn't there either. One of my ignorant coworkers said, "Maybe it's you". Maybe, But that's okay. I already got my tires and don't work at that horrible Enterprise rent a car anymore. Good job, boys and girls. Thanks for keeping it professional, at least when I was a customer. read more

I went to Kal Tire in Shawnessey for tire pressure sensors for my daughter's Jeep Compass. I was told it would take a couple of days. After a week, I went back to enquire and was told they had no record of them being ordered. The clerk said he'd look after it personally. I never heard from them again and they'll never hear from me again. read more

Well, I feel compelled to say something because it was an event. I have 3 sets of tires from this business over the last 7 years, lots of rotates, balance and brake maintenance. After new front brakes I got a shimmy at speed and figured maybe I should've taken them up on the alignment. About 5 days later it was a definite issue with tire noise, vibration and mad metal sounds. Discovery was most lugnuts on the front set were loose and one missing. Management was surprised of course and promised to make it right. Picking it up later in the day, I think I was hoping to see the manager and/or the two girls who were mostly there most of the times I visited...just to say it's all good to go. The manager was there, just in the back. Another employee attended me, took a minute to read the file before saying, "sorry you had to bring it in", then handed me my fob and paperwork. I dunno...you spend time and money on your car in one place and hope they're sincere when they recommend service as well as standing by the service they do. It's all good now. I got my brakes done here a few years back when I was going to SAIT only because it was close so I could pick it up right after class they did a great job. Fast forward to 2022 needed my breaks replaced again so I took it back there because they had done a great job previously. They did not do a great job this time. After a month or so I brought it back in because my breaks we're making a lot of noise sounding like I had worn them all the way down - was told nothing was wrong. I continued to bring it in 4 more times for a total of 5 times at this location for the same issue that was just getting worse and worse. (The sound was blown off they told me it was my tires screeching on polished pavement) I took it to a different location and they told me my brakes were not good "they are crumbly and have a lot of debris coming off of them" Let's just say I definitely won't be coming back! read more

I have been here twice to have a punctured tire repaired. Each time they told me it could not be repaired. And each time I told them I would go elsewhere for a second opinion. Upon receiving the second opinion my tire was repaired by someone else. I understand they would rather sell me a tire than fix the one I had, but this is the reason I will never buy any tires, or anything else from them. read more

I had my winter tires taken off at this location and nobody bothered to tell us that they were too worn to put back on, rather they returned them to us and we stored them for the summer. Once the vehicle was on the lift to put the winter tires back on, they called and told us we needed new tires and quoted a price which we easily beat with a little shopping around. I don't care that my tires were worn and I needed new ones, i care that it wasn't made clear when they were taken off so that I would have time to buy new ones through the summer rather than feeling pressured to buy on the spot. Kal-Tire, North Hill Calgary is the worst Tire shop I have ever dealt with. On two separate occasions I have taken a car and a truck into this location to have new winter tires installed. It should be noted I have bought 5 sets of tires from various Kal-Tire locations in the last six months ($7500). This review is ONLY directed at the Kal-Tire Calgary North Hill location. I have had great service from two other Kal-Tire Calgary locations. On both occasions I visited the Calgary North Hill location I have been called back at the time approx when I was to pickup vehicle to be informed that I cannot pickup vehicle unless I have further repairs done to my vehicle. Both occasions I was told that I would have to pay for these repairs or else call a tow truck to move my vehicle. I am very mechanically inclined I have done almost every type of repair on vehicles. I am not a fool. If you are someone who doesn't know about mechanics you will get soaked by this Kal-Tire franchise location I unfortunately had to revert to threating to call police and profanity to get these idiots to let me pay for my tires and drive my vehicle away. They actually told me I could not drive my vehicle home! In addition it should be noted they will not warranty the tire work or tires unless you do a alignment (all Kal-Tire) locations. This location a real PITA to deal with if you simply say NO to an alignment. They revert to telling you your vehicle is unsafe blah.. blah.. blah.. & that you don't meet THEIR "safety protocols". Kal-Tire North Hill is literally is the shop you have had nightmares about. I am sure their tactics work on a vast majority of people but if you go there with a vehicle that is anything less than brand new get ready to bend over. I have been going to this location for a while now, the team here is amazing. Yesterday I went in for a repair as I had a nail in one of my tires. Dustin was incredible! He saw me waiting for a while and wanted to confirm I had been helped. He then told me how long it would take. He showed me the hole that the nail had caused and explained the repair. He was even so kind as to walk me to my vehicle and explain where and how my jack works and how to lower my spare as I had no idea and this is something I should know. All around amazing! Monday I was there to drop my truck and again given the time line for completion. I went for a walk and came back at 11:40 and my truck had no moved. Awful experience with a routine tire repair. Noticed a low (not flat) front tire when I parked my MDX in the driveway. Rolled out my compressor and filled it with 35 psi. Immediately drove it to Kal Tire Crowfoot for repair without an appointment. (Dec.22) I was instructed they would get to it when they could, no problem.. Received a phone call a few hours later telling me the tire was a defect needed to be replaced. The tire (Michelin X ICE) was new, and purchased through Northwest Acura, and because of that, Kal Tire instructed me to take my defect tire back to where I purchased it for a defect replacement. I managed to get it in to Northwest Acura right away hoping to get resolve before X-Mas. Northwest Acura agreed that the tire needed replacement, but it was not due to a defect, but because the tire was driven on flat and that is what caused the damage. Northwest Acura also let me know that a replacement tire would not be available until after X-Mas. Bummer. The only time the tire could have been driven flat was when I left it with Kal Tire, and it went flat in their parking area before they drove it in the shop for the initial repair. Brutal !! To make matters worse the Kal Tire Manager would take zero responsibility for the tire. I enquired about camera footage to prove they used an air pig to fill tire before driving it in the shop, but was told the camera footage had been erased. The Kal Tire Manager also told me that even if they drove it in flat on the rim, that would not have caused the damage. Got news for you Kal Tire Manager, that's how you damaged my new winter tire. Own IT !! Northwest Acura replaced the tire at my expense. Also, I lost my MDX for the Holidays... read more

Stay away from this location.... I want to make everyone aware of a very distressing experience my daughter and I had with Dustin today. Dustin is rude and condescending and needs proper training to handle customers. I hope he feels good about himself as my daughter left this KalTire location shop in tears after she survived his negative, rude, unprofessional behavior. He has some serious issues and should not be in a front line customer facing position. Shame on him for speaking with me in such a rude manner on the phone and then for bad mouthing me to my daughter. He is a classic bully. Hopefully the manager of this location "Alex Earl" takes immediate action. Kal Tire is a better company than this but it is their responsibility to train and monitor their staff. Update: the manager of the location did call within a few hours and I am satisfied that Dustin will be mentored to be more respectful of how he handles customers. Because this shop is so close to my home I have given them numerous chances. They have left my lights on so the battery was dead when I went to pick up my car. They phoned numerous times telling me to pick up a car that didn't belong to me. They said my car would be ready in an hour, so I waited at the shop only to find out two hours later that they had forgot about me. They sent me home with only 4 bolts on each wheel. Now, I find out that the lock nuts have gone missing. I went in today to ask for my tires back because I was paying them to store the tires. First they say it will take several days to get the tires. Now they phone (30 minutes later) and say my tires are ready. I can only hope that are giving me my tires. read more

I bought 4 all season tires at there recommendation from this store for over $1000.00 and the tread on the front wheels wore out by the end of the year, I also got my wheel alignment done at the same time. When I went and spoke to the assistant manager he at first said he wouldn't look at it since I didn't have my tires rotated in the last 20k, until I told him I just purchased the tires from that store within the last 12 months. He then said it was most likely my wheel alignment, so I left my car there overnight and received a call again from the assistant manager saying that it wasn't likely the alignment but that I would have to buy new tires from them and that I should have winter tires instead of summer tires. I responded to him and said they are all season tires that the store recommended and his response "oh ya they are.. but we can't do anything for you because your tire air pressure is to low". This store is a joke, I have never had such poor service and will not get new tires here again. read more

Came here with a flat tire after a road trip, was told it wasn't repairable which makes no sense because they didn't show me how it wasn't repairable. I had stuff left in my car as I arrived in the city, when I got my car back my chain was missing. Couldn't go back as I left the store right when they closed, called them the next day was told I would be contacted and haven't been contacted by anyone there. Quick, effective, professional service. Turnaround was super quick. Parts were available immediately (whether in stock or brought in from another location) This is often an issue because my Volvo is 20 years old. Brennan (the service advisor I dealt with) and the guys(gals?) at this location are great. There was a small issue/hiccup with my vehicle while the shop had it in their possession and they took care of it for me without a hassle, fight or negotiation. I'm very pleased with their service and selection. My tires are great, my car drives better. (better gas mileage, runs smoother, and rides more comfortably). Nokian tires - very pleased. I've been back and will continue to go back for tire rotations, oil changes and other small issues. (likely going to buy some new rims in spring). Thanks everyone! Keep up the great work! read more

Really terrible service, it's been this way for years and it worse than ever. 10:30 appointment, they say 60 to 60 minutes, at 12:30 they haven't even started. What a dog and pony show! I arranged to have 4 winter tires installed. I phoned back the same day to tell the associate that I would like to have the tires installed on wheels. He was unavailable but called back 2 days later - not a good sign - and I gave him the order with the wheel number and size. A week, less a day later, I got a call from Kal's "Patrick" informing me that the wheel is out of stock but he would "try" to find similar ones of the same size. I agreed for him to do so and he called back indicating that he had found a wheel that "might fit" but the price would now be increased, from 159$ to 171$ a wheel. No apologies. No regrets. I told him that this was not a good way to do business. Normally, if items are unavailable, they are marked "out of stock" or "sold out" on a web site which is where I found the originally ordered wheels. I can afford an additional 50$ but basically told Patrick, in so many words, that I did not like to be up-sold in this way. No response so I told him to cancel my initial order for the 4 tires. He said, "okay". I told him that he sounded almost cheerful at my cancelling an order which could have amounted to over 1600$.Then I asked him to refund the cash - I had paid in advance - on my Amex card. He told me the tires had not been paid for. I bellowed - and I mean bellowed- that I had the darn receipt (just over 950$) in my car. So then he told me that if I wanted a refund, I would have to schlep back to the store with my Amex card: "it is the only way to do it [a credit refund]". So much for trying to do the right thing by supporting a local business when I could have gotten a really good price for similarly rated tires and service at a big box store! read more

Worst service. They don't even deserve 1 start but that the minimum that you give them here. I made an appointment for seasonal tire swap and was told the service would take 1-1.5 hrs. But in practice they don't even take your car for the job until after 1.5 hrs you are sitting there when it's busy time and guess what it's always a busy time when you want to swap your tires at the start of the season. The guy said appointment only guarantees that the work will be done on that day. I have given them many chances but I may hopefully not return here. read more

I bought winter tires at this location and found the service was terrific. Yes, they were busy and I had to stand in line for a bit but HELLO they are a tire shop the day after the first snowfall having to deal with all us procrastinators!! Today my tire warning light came on and I didn't know why so I went back to have it checked and they had the problem assessed and treated in less than 30 minutes (overinflated tires due to cold weather). I sat in their waiting area, had a free Starbucks and truly awesome popcorn and drove away with peace of mind at no charge! I don't understand how it takes two hours to change tires... I had an appointment and it's been two hours of me standing in the cold. They weren't even working on my car most of the time. If this is literally what you do, then how come you can't do it in a reasonable time frame. I made an appointment for a reason. Terrible service. They cancelled my tire/rim install once due to the rims not being in on time - no problem, that happens. They rebooked and I called the morning-of to make sure BOTH pieces were in, was told by the manager who went to check - that yes they were. I got there at my appointed time and they took the keys right away to start - they took my cell # to let me know when they were done and I wandered the nearby mall, waiting for the call. No call - so eventually I wandered back. They did not have both parts (the manager was eavesdropping and came by to say he took my call and that I hadn't asked if BOTH parts were in, which was not true - as that was the reason for the reschedule in the first place - and even so wouldn't HE check that when confirming my appointment?!?). They had to have known that the tires weren't in as soon as they took my car in - which they did while I was still in their shop - but didn't bother to call to tell me - wasting even more of my time. There was NO APOLOGY, NO alternative time given, no offer to check on new delivery dates - in fact the manager just walked away like it was my fault - totally throwing his embarrassed employee under the bus. I got one of my tires with one nail on it. I went to 1616 14 ave NW Kal tire Calgary and waiting for two hours. They fixed it with the bill 42 dollars which was ridiculous high. Costco only charge 12 dollars for doing the same thing and most of shop no more than 20 dollars. I checked the bill and found they used light truck rate instead of my SUV of course the price went high! I called customer service twice and talked to the manager.They said it was right!!! WTF! Well, after what seemed like a month, we finally have winter tires on the car. It's done and so they get some points for that, but we had to put up with a lot of nonsense in the meantime. First we picked the tires and wheels we wanted, then waited until we found out if they could get the wheels. After paying a $250 deposit on them and booking a time to get them changed a week and a half later we thought things would be fine. But the day I took it in and dropped it off for our appointment, they called an hour later to say the wheels weren't there. A lot of time could have been saved had they told me that in the beginning. So I had to wait for them to locate the wheels which took another three days. Then when I dropped the car off, they told me ha, ha, the wheels were there all along and nobody could see them except one guy. "It would be funny, ya know," the guy said. "Yeah," I said, "it'll be funny after you get the wheels on." So they actually did finally get everything together and on the vehicle. But that screw-around cost me a lot of time. They did compensate us for it and in the end, they did a decent job. But something has to be done so these guys communicate better.... I also noticed yesterday they had put signs up asking people to be patient with them at this time of year. I'm sure they're dealing with a lot of irate people now, but it's their fault. On one visit in, during the screw-around, the manager said he knew me and had the wheels. "Are you sure," I said. He checked the computer and it turned out another guy named Chris had the exact same problem with missing wheels. So it wasn't a one time thing, it's actually a pattern of behavior and these guys need to get things organized down there. read more

Dishonest! Web prices are fictitious. I ordered a set of Nokians on-line. All in price was $1495. I specifically indicated that no wheel alignment was required. Went in and had the work done. Showed up to pick up the vehicle, and, low and behold, they wanted $1,625. Difference was due to a wheel alignment which they completed despite my indicating I didn't want it. I said I didn't request an alignment and was told that they couldn't honour the tread life warranty if I didn't take it. What a load of rubbish! There is nothing on their website about this little technicality. I said that's fine, just replace the old tires and I'll forget the whole thing (there is a 30 day satisfaction guarantee). The sales person then said they'd waive the alignment fee and still honour the warranty. I totally hate these shady tactics to trick customers into paying more than they agreed to. I am actually thinking of returning the tires just because I don't want to support a company with so little integrity. If you buy on-line from Kal Tire don't put any trust in the price shown. You'll have to do battle with the store to actually get them to honour it. Stay away, or go prepared! read more

Service slow, vehicle not even taken into the shop at the time they promised it would be done. No apology. Long lines in shop to drop off and pickup vehicle. No details of tire warranty provided. Just an off hand comment, you should rotate your tires every 10,000 Km. And to top it off two of the tires were not inflated tot he correct pressure. read more

Thank you to all at this KAL Tire Location! Recently had a flat, with no spare, AMA towed to this location Saturday evening on advice of co worker. When they re opened Monday AM. They had it checked and fixed by noon. I went to pick up and even though I was not a current client, they waived the charge to fix the flat. They instead asked me to consider them for future work that my mini may need. I inquired about a basic oil change for the Mini...way less than local BMW/Mini dealer! I will be back. I took my car to Kal Tire at 8am. A screw was lodged in my tire and I have always taken my car to Kal Tire for their service. When I arrived I was told the wait for a tire patch was 3 hours. I left my car with them and took a taxi to work. I did not call in 3 hours rather I called 5.5 hours after dropping my car off. I was told that it would be another 2-3 hours. So 3 hours later (4:30pm) I called again and was told it would be ready in 15mins. I then called a taxi and arrived at Kal-Tire at 5:10pm (25mins after my car was "suppose" to be ready). I was then told it would be another 5-10 minutes. I sat in their waiting area for 30 minutes with no acknowledgment of my car being ready. Finally I approach the counter (which by now had many people waiting to pick up their vehicles) and was told by the service "kid" that I would have to wait in line because these people were in front of me. I simply said "In fact these people are not in front of me as I've been waiting for 30minutes, my car is out front and I would like the keys please" The kid grabbed my keys (which were right in front of him) shoved them at me and told me to have a nice day with a tone of disdain. I can appreciate that things come up and when you provide first come first serve service it is tricky to pin down the exact time a car will be complete. However, I don't appreciate being treated like a nuisance after having patiently waited for them ALL DAY to get their shit together. Yes a tire patch is a free service but it is a service they provide and the customers should be treated just like the paying customers. read more

Dropped off my car 45 min early for my seasonal Tire swap appointment, the drop off employee was very friendly, assured me they were right on schedule today and my appointment would be kept on time and that I would be contacted in 1.5 hours after my appointment to pick up. 2 hours after my appointment time I had still not been contacted, the shop hours were soon closed and no-one was picking up the phone so I went back and saw that my car was sitting out in the parking lot. I went in to ask whats going on and they had completely forgotten about my car, at 10 minutes to close they had not even taken it in. They got the tires swapped quickly after realizing their mistake and when I went to pick up my keys they tried to sell me new brake pads insisting mine had only 1-2 mm left. This seemed incredibly weird considering I had only recently replaced my brakes so I told them no thanks. I had a different mechanic look at my brakes to reveal they were indeed still at over 90% usability. These liar thieves forgot about my tire swap completely then tried to scam me for an unnecessary cost that was a complete lie. Don't support these jerks. read more

This is one of my favorite stores in Calgary because of the excellent customer service. This tire and general car service store in run by a super nice guy and his good nature rubs off on his entire team. You often leave here feeling better then you did coming in....oh and the work is top notch too. Worth driving a little further if your not local. read more
