To the ass at the reception desk yesterday when I brought my '02 Camry in to see about replacing the knock sensors that had been diagnosed by a real mechanic; I told you that the car was running weirdly and the tranny wasn't shifting properly. You said that there is no way that a faulty or dead knock sensor could cause a problem like that and that I would probably need to spend $500 just to have Knibbe diagnose the already correctly diagnosed problem. Read this, Einstein: "Can a bad knock sensor cause a transmission problem?" "A malfunctioning knock sensor can cause transmission problems because it doesn't relay the right time for the engine to fire the spark plugs. This causes a power loss and that can cause the transmission to use a different gear than it normally would to compensate." Maybe stick with reception because you are obviously not an auto mechanic. I'd give my car to the Kidney Foundation before I'd ever darken Knibbe's doorway again. read more

I'm fresh from the states and needed to find a repair shop to work on my 2016 Chevy Cruze. It was leaking coolant like crazy was over heating because of that. I called a handful of places and most didn't pick up or were rude on the phone prior to even meeting in person. Knibbe Auto staff was super friendly. I had a few questions which I'm sure was very redundant for them but they didn't make me feel like a bother. They were able to book my car in about 3 days after I called. They ran a diagnostic to figure out the issues. My car needed a new thermostat as well as a new housing unit. They called to tell me what was wrong and they were very informative. Because of that, I also added an oil change as well. Upon picking up my car, one of the mechanics talked to me about what they did and how it's such a common problem with the Chevy Cruze. He also showed me the parts they took and replaced from my car! I've NEVER had any mechanic do that! I was super impressed with the level of service. As a woman, it's hard to find trust worthy mechanics. I've had some horrible ones in the states as well as some good ones. I'm glad I found this shop on the first try! In a month I will be scheduling my car with them to get winterized. Apparently a heater block needs to be installed. They also explained that as well! I will also be using them to get my car inspected so it can be imported and stay! Thank you guys for being so helpful, kind and honest. My car is still holding up great! read more

I can't say enough good things about Knibbe Automotive Repair. My brakes overheated going through the mountains. The left front one was smoking and there was an odd wobble. Since I tow a 7000 pound trailer, I wanted to know the brakes were good. There is a Denny's next door where I had a nice breakfast while waiting. They got me in and out in a very timely manner. Knibbe fixed my alternator on time and on budget. What happened next was surprising. I mentioned to the advisor that I needed help replacing trim on the roof of my 14 year old car. He found the trim but the part cost 260 new. He then phoned around and found me the part for 90 bucks from a wrecker. Then he helped me paint it so it would match the car. This job generated only modest profit for the shop but they did it anyways. A million thanks for the follow up and attention to detail. Customer service is alive and well here. read more

I do not recommend this shop for service. I took in my truck for a transmission service. My truck has 224k. They did a half job on my truck. Never changed the internal filter. The manager told me that they never change the internal filter. Like what's the point of changing the fluid if your not gonna do the filter. Definitely a shady shop. I bet they don't change your oil filters when changing oil. read more

I had trouble with the AC in my car, the dealership told me that I needed a new compressor, referral from someone for a second opinion and glad I did. KNIBBE diagnosed that I needed a top up on the refrigerate, $263 is a far cry from $2500. On a 9 year old car. They put in a sealant and recharged it, the ac works better than it did brand new. I was recommended a fuel injection service by Blaskin and Lane Chinook for my 2008 Mazda 3 GT. A code came on so I brought it back and Blaskin ran through what the issues could be and came back to me saying that the whole internal CPU needed to be replaced. After driving away for a second time from Blaskin, by car started revving up to 3000 RPM when idling! Naturally I felt this prognosis was rather extreme given the year and kms on the car. And now my car was revving insanely high. I went for a second opinion to Knibbe which had been recommended by family. They took a look a look at the car and did a factory reset of the internal computer codes. The issue in the end was the battery was failing, NOT the need for a whole new CPU. Finding a good doctor, a good hair stylist, or a good mechanic can be hard to do. I already have the first two. Today I found a good honest mechanic. The parking break light on my van had been stuck on for a while now and I figured I better get it checked out. I called Knibbe on Monday to see if I could drop off my van Wednesday morning. The guy on the phone actually suggested I try to pull up the brake just to make sure it wasn't sticking. He reassured me they would call me to let me know what was wrong before proceeding with any work. I arrived around 7am to drop off my van. The girl at the desk, Rose was really pleasant. She said they would check it out and call me later, which she did. Rose called to say that everything looked good and that the problem was simply low brake fluid. (yeah I felt a little stupid but I did look at it and the fluid level looked ok). After work, I caught the train back up to Crowfoot and walked over to Knibbe to pick up my van. Much to my surprise, they did not charge me for checking out my vehicle. It's not very often that you get anything for free at an automotive place. Taking my vehicle in for any service always makes me nervous but Knibbe blew me away with their customer service. Everyone here was friendly, helpful and efficient. The shop looked very clean and nicely organized, too. The location and hours are really convenient for me. The train is a few blocks away. They also have a location on Centre Street NW. I used to see it every day when I took the bus downtown to work. They are a family owned business. And they serve Tim Horton's coffee. Knibbe is on now my list of favs. read more

This shop (actually, two shops side-by-side) repaired my car quickly and efficiently. I had intermittent starting problems, and they performed a test on the whole starting system, found that the starter itself was burned out and replaced it. Best of all, it was reasonably priced--they managed to give me a reconditioned one instead of a brand new one, saving me a couple hundred bucks. Knibbe has changed, beware! Like other reviewers, I've been pleased before, but yesterday they tried to rip me off for $1400 on a total front and rear brake job I didn't need. All I needed were front pads for $43, took me and a friend 30 minutes! Didn't need to replace the rotors. Took the back tires off to inspect the brakes, which they didn't do because both were still rusted tight. The cylinders weren't leaking and the shoes still have lots of life in them. Oh, and the fluid wasn't low either. That took us another 25 minutes, all told, 55 minutes. Knibbe, what are you doing?!? Trying to sell me work I don't need!!! If you're too lazy to read my novel here's the Coles note: You can trust this mechanic - they went out of their way to do the right thing for me even incurring cost to themselves. Tons of shady mechanics out there but this is not one of them. If you have a feeling in your gut that something isn't working right with your car, or you have questions about a service or repair - tell them. They will take the time to explain things to you without a bunch of pretentious and condescending jargon and will work with you to find a solution. Blown away by their service! * * * * * Took a private-sale 2001 Honda Accord V6 here for a pre-purchase inspection back in February, it passed the inspection with only minor repairs. Because I could not pick my vehicle up during business hours I wasn't able to speak to anyone in person but was left with a full printout of the result. The one thing that was missing were details of the test-drive. I noticed that the vehicle was resistant accelerating from a stop compared to my previous '96 Honda, but didn't think it could be anything major at the time, nonetheless I called Knibbe later and asked to speak to the technician who test drove my vehicle. I was told he would call me back but he never did. Oh well, I thought - I'm very conscious in my driving about easing on the pedals to prevent excess wear, so I decided the resistance accelerating wasn't a big deal, especially since it cleared inspection. The inspection was a bit pricey comparatively, but having read reviews online about this mechanic and the quality of the work I decided it was worth the investment to have peace of mind down the road. I did my own test drive, research, Carproof etc. before purchasing this vehicle as well. Unfortunately I missed a major warning... (ominous foreshadowing) Fast forward 10,000 km later (at a mere 157,000 km) the transmission is shot. The lag on the upshift from a stop got slowly but progressively worse to the point that it was not gear shifting properly at all. I took the vehicle to a transmission specialist who confirmed the worst. After doing some more honed research I discovered that this was a known mechanical issue with certain Honda models of the same year range given that the transmission is not powerful enough for the 6-cylinder engine. Carcomplaints.com gave it an "avoid it like the plague" rating (kicked, slapped and poked myself for missing this). Being a recent, unemployed graduate living off of canned beans and ramen I set out to see if Honda might have a morsel of kindness in their vast corporate heart. Spoiler - they didn't. Nothing but black coal there, but I'll save that for another review. Anyway, I resigned myself to the fact that I would be looking at coughing up a LOT of non-existent money to fix the vehicle - there's no way I could sell it in the condition it was in. I left a review for Knibbe, frustrated that they hadn't caught the transmission issue in the pre-purchase inspection, that I hadn't followed up more diligently on the test drive results etc. Much to my surprise, Knibbe called me about my review - and started asking questions about what happened and what led to the current situation. The management team took time out of their day on multiple occasions to meet with me in person. I was truly shocked at how seriously they considered my experience, especially after Honda admitted liability and then proceeded to tell me to go soak my head. Not only did John Knibbe refrain from telling me to go soak my head (+10 points), he also got his team of mechanics to look over my vehicle in detail - with no obligation on me to follow through on any service with his business. He put together a repair plan for me, and laid out all of my options in detail - no jargon. A couple weeks later I have a rebuilt tranny and my car is (hopefully) good for another 100,000 km. The biggest relief of this whole nightmare is that they made this plan fit into my budget and absorbed all the extra costs. As if that wasn't enough, I had taken the vehicle to Honda earlier in the year to deal with the recalled airbag - turns out they had not even done that right and my airbags were still defective - I never would have known, but they fixed those too. Ultimately there was no proof on their end that they had missed anything in the inspection. There were no notes on the test drive and there was no obligation to help me - at the end of the day it was just my word against theirs. Despite this John not only believed what I was telling him, he took my experience seriously and used it to improve their workflow so the same thing could not happen to another customer. I have to say it's extremely rare that you come across a business nowadays that cares about their brand so much that they constantly look for ways to improve and defend their quality of service. I cannot recommend Knibbe highly enough. Trust me when I say they will do right by you! read more

Now, we have been pretty happy with the service Knibbe has provided us in the past, but we were irked by our last visit. Upon completing a routine checkup on our vehicle, the rep at Knibbe informed my wife that our cabin air filter needed to be replaced and he could do so for around $300. Naturally, she balked at the price and asked if it was something her husband (me) could do. The rep said, reluctantly, that it was, but advised her to do it right then and there. Long story short: I bought a replacement cabin air filter for $27 and replaced it in less than five minutes thanks to a tutorial on YouTube. Not sure if it was the stereotypical jerk mechanic who was trying to take advantage of a 'stupid' woman, but we will be a little more cautious with what exactly they do for us going forward. You're better than that Knibbe. We have seen it firsthand. read more

I just want to say that these guys are awesome and there is no where else I would trust to take my jeep. I had an oil leak on Friday and when I took it to minite lube they diagnosed it as a main seal leak. They do not do matience so I left it a knibbe to have them look at it Monday morning. I got a call from Jo that they would get it as soon as they could if it's a main seal leak it would cost about $1599. Then about 1 hr went by and Randy called me and told me they had some good news that they fixed my jeep. When I had it in about 1 month ago they did an oil change and there was a faulty o ring on the filter so they made it right cleaned the under carriage of the jeep replaced the filter and o ring and there was no charge as they dont know if it was from them. I trust these guys more than anyone. I have had SO many bad experiences at the dealership service dept that I thought I would try out these guys and I will never look back. I know one day I will have a larger service cost as the jeep get older and I will be ok with it as I know they will be telling me the truth. I recently got a quote from a dealership about fixing my vehicle. However, the prices were crazy. My friend suggested that I should at least get a quote from Knibbe auto. I am very happy that I did. Not only were the guys friendly and knowledgeable, the quotes I was provided were reasonable. The mechanic I worked with kept me up-to-date on the repairs required and even said that some of the repairs that were suggested by the dealership were not really necessary. I have a follow-up appointment just so the mechanic can check up on the car to make sure it's ok. I have never had follow ups and this just makes me more impressed with the service. It shows that the mechanic actually cares about his work and wants to ensure that the leaks I had are indeed fixed. tl;dr This is a great mechanic shop with people that you can trust. We have been going to Knibbe for years now, with different cars, with nothing but good experiences. Recently our truck had issues with the fuel system after getting gas at the new Centex station. Knibbe had time to look at the car on Thursday and called me later in the day to update me on the progress. With all that had to be done to the car, draining the car, cleaning the fuel lines and filters and replacing the fuel pump. Their estimate was that it would take a few days to complete the process which would mean that the car would be ready after the long weekend. We had planned to leave during the long weekend for a holiday and we needed the truck for that. Knibbe said that they would see what they could do and called me back a little later. They were going to work on the truck right away. They managed to get the truck running before the long weekend. The manager even gave me his cell number in case I would experience any issues during the weekend, before we left for holiday. That's going above and beyond! The truck is holding up perfectly so job well done! read more

Brakes are an integral component of vehicle safety. We went to Knibbe to have the brakes on our Dodge Grand Caravan checked because they were squealing. They said the brakes needed to be replaced and since the existing front rotors could not be machined, they replaced both of them and also installed new brake pads. It was ok for a while, and then started to shudder in the front end when the brakes were applied. The shuddering worsened very quickly over a short time. My wife returned to Knibbe; they checked the front brakes and said that there were "hot spots causing the pulsations, but the brakes wouldn't fail". They told my wife that it was "because of the way she drives", and did nothing at all to correct the problem. The shuddering problem worsened, so this time I returned with my wife. After some discussion they eventually admitted that the rotors were defective and (somewhat reluctantly) agreed to replace them under warranty. Not long after, the shuddering problem in the front end returned and again it worsened very quickly. We have since had a very reputable shop check the front brakes and rotors. It was explained to us that the replacement rotors that were used are "white box" (no name) parts, that they are known to be cheap and inferior; hard spots in poor quality metal caused the shuddering. We were told that Knibbe is notorious for using white box parts. We were not aware of this, but do know that quality repairs require the use of quality parts. Our advice to others is to seek out a reputable automotive repair company and avoid the run around that we experienced with Knibbe. We are very disappointed with the quality of service and do not appreciate that my wife put her trust them but was misled. read more

I have been a customer of Knibbe for 5 years and have spent approximately $3500 for repairs. I have a 2009 Matrix with 240,000 km. Last week my clutch broke and I had the AMA tow it to Knibbe for an estimate. Knibbe advised that I needed a whole new clutch system at the cost of $3500. I called Auto Expert and for the same work quoted me $2400. Last Friday I called Knibbe and advised I was taking my business elsewhere and made arrangements for my car to be picked up by AMA on Monday. Monday they sent the AMA away and I had to have two additional conversation for them to release my car. It was towed Tuesday morning and by the afternoon Auto Expert called to advise that they needed to adjust the linkage under the dash, it would be ready the next day. So for checking the clutch operation, repairing and adjusting the linkage under the dash, oil and filter change, lube chassis and check all fluids, lights, belts, hoses and tire pressure, I drove away for $315.00. Sad to say, we had some expensive repairs done here that did not stand the test of time. Among other things we had a radiator replaced, and only a year and a half later the plastic tank inside the radiator had worn out, necessitating another replacement. Knibbe would do nothing as it was outside of their one year warranty period. Our new mechanic said a radiator should last at minimum 5 years (possibly the life of the car if not damaged by road debris etc), and that most likely the part that had been put in our car was of poor quality. From now on, we will be taking our vehicles to a shop that carries at least the two year warranty coverage offered by NAPA Autocare centers. read more

About 3 years ago when our regular mechanic left town we were in need of a good and honest shop and we stumbled across these guys (with a recommendation from a local dealership). They have consistently given us fantastic and honest service on both of our vehicles over the years. The shop is busy and the parking is lousy but the shuttle driver (think it might be Ken) is great and prompt and the service is reliable and honest. It's not much cheaper per hour than a dealership but they charge you less hours for a job than the dealership does and they are far more honest. I had a 2006 Toyota Sienna and the catalytic converter went and Toyota wanted to charge me roughly $1100. It was quite a bit cheaper at Knibbe by about $300. I brought it in on a Saturday for them to take a quick check to see if that was the problem and after 15 minutes on the hoist John said to me "what year is this? ... I think this might still be covered by your warranty" and even offered to call the dealership. They didn't even charge me to put it up or look at it and could have soaked me for a LOT of money instead getting nothing. As it turns out the John was right and I had to call my Toyota dealership and get them to honor something that THEY should have told me about and not one of their competitors. A+ service, honest, reliable, great shuttle, crappy parking. That's Knibbe. I won't be taking our vehicles anywhere else. Check the filtered results below as well. YELP SUCKS !! Love love love this place! I've brought my 2004 Nissan Murano here a handful of times at the recommendation of my boyfriend and I'm so happy with their work! Each time I've brought it in, they explain to me what they are doing in terms I can understand and show me the parts they are replacing.
