Great hole in the wall near the Central Train Station of both Chinese and Surinam food. Surinam is a former Dutch colony with immigrants from Hong Kong, Java and India together with Blacks and indigenous people with the Dutch.

Great food good service. Felt like I was back home in the islands with the taste of the Chinese food. Amazing! Definitely a good find!

This review is based on experience of a tourist in a group of six. Pros Price around 11 -15 euros Food is ok; I like their fried rice and stirred fried noodles and roti lamb. Roti lamb is somewhat unique with additional of a boiled egg and green beans. Cons: Service is just ok Food is not outstanding but you don't feel like you wasted your money at all If you want to try Surinamese / Chinese this is the spot in Amsterdam central

Probably the second time in my life ever having Surinamese pom so I might not be the best judge, but I loved the food here! I devoured everything so quickly. A cozy interior and a solid dinner overall.

Looks like I'm the first to review this restaurant in about 2 years. We were a party of about 19 family members and even though we did not make a reservation, we were able to get accommodations. This will be a short review for me as I'm trying to write as many reviews as I can over the next 2 1/2 weeks while visiting 8 countries. Great prices! Entrees go from about 8 Euros to most dishes no higher than 19 Euros. Fast service, Awesome food and the place is clean. It's not the fanciest although if you want a great meal you cannot go wrong here. There are a lot of restaurants in this part of Amsterdam and this is definitely.a winner. I highly recommend them and I'm sure they won't disappoint.

Service was fast, food was good! Family friendly atmosphere. Yes I will recommend this place to friends who wants to have some Chinese foods in Amsterdam.

roti kip, surinamese fried rice with chicken and pork, dawat drink

My friend and I wanted to try Surinamese food, so we hit up Kam Yin on a wednesday afternoon for lunch. The prices are surprisingly cheap for the amount of food you get. I ordered the chicken roti and my friend ordered a fried rice and dawat--a coconut milk drink. The chicken roti was exactly what I needed: full of fluffy curried potatoes, chicken and green beans. Needless to say, both my friend and I cleaned our plates. My only complaint would be that they don't serve tap water. Good thing I came with my own water bottle. As for the ambiance, it's nothing to harp on about. Above all else, the restaurant was spacious and clean. I would love to come back and try more menu opt

The Surinamese-Chinese cuisine meshed in with Dutch colonial history peaked my interest as I was walking by the restaurant's high glass windows. The restaurant looks nice..old world tropical colonial with modern accents. For some reason I had a strong urge to have good Chinese food. The next evening, we saw the nearly full eatery and decided to go ahead inside for dinner. We had the dinner for twee option. The magee soup starter is very good. I added chili to the soup which gave it a nice spicy kick. The chicken noodle chow mein was excellent. A butterfly like shrimp appettizer was a nice surprise. The shrimp is fried and deliciously meaty. A meat mix entree of pork, chicken, and duck is included. The duck pieces are a treat..rich! An entree of vegetable stir fry was my favorite. The overall preparation and service is food. Oh, a bottle of cold Dutch beer helped wash down the rich meal.

    Nasi with Pork (Char Siu)

Going into Amsterdam, I had heard that Surinamese cuisine is a must-eat, but I really had no idea what it entailed. After checking out a few Surinamese eateries and seeing that they were Chinese-owned, I began to wonder if it's anything like how there are Chinese-run Mexican joints in the US and questioned the authenticity of Surinamese cuisine in Amsterdam. After some light research, I found out that Surinamese food is not a specific type of cuisine, but heavily influenced by the Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, African, and Caribbean cultures. Some food for thought. From the outside, this looks like a fancy, 4-star restaurant, but I can assure you that most of the dishes are priced €10 and under. Slightly pricier than what I'd normally pay for Chinese food, but it was very cheap for Amsterdam dining standards. I had the Nasi with Pork, which is Indonesian fried rice with Chinese bbq pork (char siu). Like most Chinese people, I am easily won over by char siu; the cuts here were tender, flavorful, and fresh. I've never had Nasi before but I wasn't blown away by it or anything; it's basically fried rice cooked in soy sauce that wasn't salty or overpowering. I love pickled veggies but it was a first eating fried rice with those, which is not bad if you like pickle-flavored stuff. I guess the more appropriate name for this would be Chinese-Javanese-style pork fried rice. Service was pretty good (although slow) and it helped that I spoke Chinese with them. Don't be deceived by the fancy-looking ambiance; it is one of the cheapest meals you can get in Amsterdam!

Chinese-Surinamese food? What the heck is that? Perhaps centuries ago Chinese traders and contract workers settled in Suriname, the former Dutch colony in South America, and this is what the melting pot wrought. And it's pretty delicious! I come here whenever visiting Amsterdam because it's down home, tasty food and cheap! Kam Yin has a plain, undistinguished Chinese restaurant interior, but the full house each night doesn't seem to mind. This time we arrived at closing time and they were turning people away. Luckily my Dutch friends are regulars so we got to sit down. We ate as they stacked chairs on tables all around us! We didn't care. The food came fast as usual (or maybe the cooks wanted to go home)! The roast duck with rice was excellent, with a sauce over the duck that had slightly different exotic spices that I'm not used to in American Chinatown restaurants that serve roast duck. The curry and vegetarian dishes are also delicious but blended with what I taste as Caribbean accents. If you're adventurous, order food you haven't tried before and eat family style so you can try a bunch of dishes.

We stumbled on this restaurant as we were walking through the city and it turned out to be one of our favorite parts of our trip to Amsterdam. Our only regret was that we found it the day before we left and didn't have enough time for a second trip. Every dish was cooked perfectly and the flavors were on point. This place is on the top of our list the next time we visit Amsterdam no question!

My sister and I were in the mood for a late dinner that was near to the hotel. It was a great spot. We had the pork wontons and spring rolls for an appetizer. Both were perfect! My sister had the wonton soup which had great flavor. She had the shrimp fried rice and I had the fried rice which was a great meal! We will definitely go back when in Amsterdam.

It's a multi-level restaurant that stays packed during prime hours, which is always a good sign for the food quality. They serve Dim Sum all day, which is a huge plus. The flavors are very traditional. While the Dim Sum was solid across the board, the Beef Chow Fun was the absolute standout--perfectly prepared with that signature "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The staff isn't necessarily warm and fuzzy, but they are efficient. Don't expect a long chat, but you'll get your food quickly. Be prepared for a bit of a climb; the restaurant spans several floors and it appears to be stairs-only. It gets very crowded, so timing your visit is key. A must-visit for Chinese food fans in Amsterdam. Just be ready for a lively, busy environment!

Their menu is impressively large and the dining room is small but inviting. Prices are quite high, but you are in a tourist area. We ordered a Kung pao chicken and a chicken fried rice to share. We both had a very weird 'chemical' taste that would occasionally occur with the Kung pao but neither of us could figure out what it was. The chicken fried rice was fine but contained very little chicken. My house white wine at 4.5 was fine as well as hubby had a Heineken. The biggest issue was the many Gnats that just descended on us once our wine arrived. If you zoom in on the picture, there were quite a few just hanging out after our plate we removed. We have been to many restaurants since we arrived here and this is the first with this issue. It got even worse once our food arrived. Very irritating. Service was just ok. We were here at a weird time because we are very jet lagged and trying to get on the time zone (needed dinner early). The staff were having their dinner so we felt a bit of a nuisance. Bill was about 50 euro.
