The main theatre is a medium-sized theatre, seating just under 1000 people. They do have a smaller theatre there too which seats just under 200 people. I've only been to the main theatre though, not the smaller one. Seats are comfortable and you're not crammed in too much. There's a coat check, and a small bar that serves wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. There are vending machines, and there appears to be a cafe, but it never seems to be open when I'm there for a show. It's connected to the Nepean Centrepointe Library. Washrooms are ok, clean but not that modern, and not too many stalls. The lineups are insane during intermission. Parking is free.

Attached to what…read moreused to be Nepean City Hall and the Centrepointe Library, it's also a beautiful place to take a walk outside and check out the fountain. There's lots of parking (and it's free!), but the theatre can get very busy and books various events on one night, so be sure to get there at least half an hour prior to your event to find parking. On the night we attended there was also a large dance recital going on so the parking lot was packed. As mentioned, Noah K and I were here with some friends to see Jayme White, a local mentalist/illusionist preform. The theatre was downstairs and sat about 200 people, which I thought was a great size, because it feels intimate no matter where you are sitting. The one thing I was not particularly impressed with was the staff I came into contact with. The two women we encountered (ushers?), were holding programs, but both told us we could pick up programs downstairs despite having a ton of them. They also weren't very friendly and were a bit off-putting. That being said, it wouldn't detract me from going here again as I hardly had to interact with them. I think this would be a great place to see a musical act as it would be super intimate. I'll absolutely be checking out their schedule more often!

This is THE biggest movie theatre in the city of Gatineau…read more Unfortunately, the Theatre suffered from a lot of neglect under the management of the previous owners. Ever since Cineplex re-acquired the theatre from the previous owners, the Theatre is starting to bloom again. Some well needed renovations were completed (Especially in the bathrooms), The number of restaurant offerings was reduced to a minimum, but it now offers the typical snacks you would expect out of a movie theatre. The Staff is always helpful and always willing to help their customers. A few times, due to technical reasons, the movie we were watching was not being shown properly or completely stopped. If they could fix the problem, they rewinded the movie to the approximate part where it left off. Otherwise, we were offered a refund or a free movie-pass for another movie some other time. This theatre is even going to offer D-Box (Motion seats) on Select movies showing that the Theatre is keeping up to date with the Technology. I'm glad that Cineplex now owns this theatre, it is finally showing signs of much-needed improvement. I'm giving it 4 stars because I feel there is still some things to do to bring it back to its former glory (Some broken seats and other minor repairs), but I know it is in good hands with Cineplex.

It's in a good central location of friends are coming from Aylmer, Hull or Gatineau. I usually always find great parking (tip: go along the sides of the building and the back). With all that being said I do find that management has become sub-par. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it's not the cleanest and they need to do something to work on the lines of people who fill up the entry way. I'll continue to go once in a while, but I can't wait to set up my home theatre in the basement myself ;) (cheaper prices and snacks haha!)

I recently visited the National Arts Centre (NAC). It wasn't to take in any performance at this…read morevenue. I was downtown for Canada Day. I wanted a place to park. Its parkade was where my car was for a few hours. My original plan was to park at CF Rideau Centre and walk over to where the festivities were. I did it four years ago and it worked out nicely. Afterwards, I'd simply walk around the mall. However, I was curious to check this parking lot out. It's a part of NAC that I was not familiar with. The parkade is a 24-hour one. If you enter it before 4 pm, it's $3 for each half hour, to a maximum of $20. That's actually not bad if you consider that it would be an arm and a leg in other Canadian cities. It's automated. You do get a parking attendant when there's a performance or some activity happening at NAC. I don't know how all that works. I just know that for this national holiday, the parking attendant got a break. I inserted my credit card to enter the parkade. I used to same one leaving. It was pretty straightforward. I parked on level P1. I took the stairs to get to street level. It was perfect. I have only seen one concert at NAC. It was years ago when I lived in Winnipeg and travelled to Ottawa for vacation. It was a meaningful concert that holds a lot of fond memories. I saw my first Jann Arden concert here. Back then, I bought a ticket over the phone. The box office was a block away from my hotel on Slater Street. I walked over to fetch my ticket. On the night of the concert, I walked over to the NAC. It was November. There was snow on the ground. It was pretty, but a bit nippy. The female usher was so great showing me where my seat was. My seat was the last row of the orchestra section, the first seat on the left by the aisle. I was extremely happy. This concert set up countless Jann Arden concerts that I have attended all over the place. She is a wonderful performer and singer. Opening up for Jann Arden back then was Melanie Doane. This show alone sparked me to also see Melanie whenever she was playing over the years. What is cool is that when Jann recent played a couple of shows in Toronto, she had a bit of a reunion with Melanie. The latter has a ukelele school and students came down the aisles playing their ukes with Melanie leading the way to Jann. Such a cool moment! I got a Jann Arden t-shirt at the merchandise table. It said Happy? on it, to mark her newly released album back then. It's crazy to think that this album is nearly 26 years old. Yikes! I didn't grab any refreshments or snacks that night. I only remember happily walking back to the hotel and the sound my boots made walking on the snow. I had a great time then. I also had a decent parking experience on Canada Day just over two weeks ago. The NAC has changed since I last stepped foot. It looks like for the better. The digital leaves blowing around that you see above the NAC's main entrance was a nice touch. (240)

I think they might need to update the seat or at least change the couchions - my left leg kept falling asleep and my back got noticeably sore at the end of the last show.

They always have a deals going on on Wednesdays called the Wednesday twosome: two movie tickets, two medium fountain drinks, a large popcorn and a bag of candy of your choice for 36.99$ plus tax. We took full advantage of that deal last night and it reminded me of how much fun the movies can be. I always have a wonderful experience each time I come here. This is my favorite place to watch movies!

The air hockey is fantastic, and worth the tokens as you actually get a decent amount of time to play. They also have a photo booth, how fun for memories! I also recommend the "hand claw game" (is that what you call it? LOL), where no matter what, you get a prize every time! Worth the tokens and fun for the kids. They have a couple of restaurants, one that serves Starbucks frapps, ice cream, and outtakes, popcorn, the usual movie theatre candy and treats. Plan ahead though, as it can take some time to get popcorn. I don't frequent the actual theatres much to watch movies, as I prefer to watch movies at home, but I have been the rare occasion and the seats are cozy. The hubs is a huge movie buff and loves the theatres here. They also have stars and strollers, where you can bring your little ones here, park your strollers and watch a movie in the afternoon with reduced noise.

A popular and busy place for moviegoers…read more As with many other Cineplexes, this one's big and has many facilities. A good variety of concessions and an arcade provide the bulk of entertainment before you head off to watch your film. Inside, you'll get plenty of room, a large screen, and air conditioning. Some of the theatres have reclined seats for even greater comfort. The big screens have truly been a testament to man's ingenuity. Your concessions are overpriced, as is tradition. For over $20, you can get a combo of popcorn, a snack, and a drink. You can get away with much better quality if you decide to dine in first, especially at all the nearby restaurants. Tickets have also been getting more expensive, but I think there's a designated day where you get tickets for $4. I'm afraid you'll have to check it out for yourself; I got the discounted price when watching Barbie on a Sunday, but the following Sunday, I had to get full-priced tickets for Oppenheimer. What you end up with is the typical Cineplex experience; a selection of all the hit movies delivered to you in all its IMAX glory.

I'm a big fan of the Ottawa Fringe Festival. It's fantastic, cheap and often hilarious…read moreentertainment. For a week and a half in June, you can pay $10 to see a one hour show that can offer a better experience than a movie theatre...that is if you do your research. The festival's website gives you lots of details on each play, including recent reviews and awards received. If you're a big Fringe geek, you can get a Frequent Fringer Card. For $40, you get passes to 5 productions; for $70, you get passes to 10. I also seem to recall the first show of each play has a discounted price. Venues are all over the city, including the University of Ottawa and Arts Court. My experience with Fringe plays has taught me it's often the comedies that are exceptional, while the dramas are often a pretentious or watered down version of something you'd see at the GCTC or NAC. I'm sure there are lots of great dramatic plays at Fringe, but they're less of safe bet than the comedies.

Complete with a velvet curtain that rises and old couches (if you're lucky) to relax on, the Mayfair is a great place to catch those flicks that don't always make it to the big theatres. The Mayfair has a lot of character, not flash, and the movies that are screened there reflect this. It's the kind of place that features cult classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and gorgeous documentaries like Jiro Dreams of Sushi. It is cash only, so remember to stop by the ATM, before you get your tickets and popcorn.
