After getting our welcome drinks of Honey Orange Juice, we were escorted to our connected rooms where my brother-in-law parked outside of, but I preferred to hitch a ride with the resort's yellow motorized trike. After we got settled in our air-conditioned lagoon villa, we proceeded to the beach, which was less than a kilometer's walk. The sunset was what I yearning for, and we were lucky to witness it on a cloudless western horizon over the nearby islands. My sister recommended this place as they've been here months before, and of course, they came with us. We weren't too impressed by the facilities and the seaweed & jelly fish laden beach (monsoon season after all) after staying at Shangri-la in Mactan, but that got offsetted by: 1. the complimentary water sports 2. the friendly staff 3. the fairly priced & delicious food & drinks and of course 4. the views!!! (lots of photos) A very positive side note: While kayaking one morning, I clumsily positioned my very new Insta360 camera, where it eventually decided to take a dip in the murkiest part of the lagoon. After pointlessly searching for it in 4 feet of water, I was warned by the staff that it wasn't encouraged to frolick in the debris filled pond where I might get injured. Junie (as I vaguely remember his name), the water sports dispatcher, relieved me from my futile endeavor and got in the water and found the action cam owned by Mr. Sloppy. Someone handed me the equipment while I was having lunch. I searched for him to personally give my appreciation (and a tip). Do try them, if not for the views, do it for the warmth of the resort's staff.

Virgin Island is one of the two more popular island hopping destinations in Bantayan Island. It's accesible via a 15-20 minute boatride (php1200-1700) from Bantayan Island. Once you get to the island, you will have to pay php250/per person for the entrance. Cottages are available for a fee of php300-500. You can choose to bring food with you (we didn't) or order from the canteen. Menu has both popular local and international dishes and cost around php250-300 per serving. You won't be doing much here save for swimming and perhaps taking some selfies but the place is perfect for those who want to take a short respite from the hustles and the bustles of city living. Oh, and smokers should buy a pack of cigs as it's almost always sold out in the island. Would I recommend it? Yes but only if you want to experience the thrill of island hopping.

I was told I need to go to the north or south of Cebu to find a good beach and was told Virgin Island is where I should be. Well after hours on the road, and more hours on a ferry boat to Bantayan Island I ended up on this extra small island. Maybe a few years ago it was a virgin on touched beach, but now people live here past the palm tree line off the beach The beach parts are real small, and not much else to see here and do here other than walking the beach and jumping like 15 or 20 feet off a makeshift platform into 10 feet of water. I guess this is where you go in when you want to do a island hopping tour when you are already on an island. I should had headed south to Oslob to swim with the whale sharks instead.

A good friend wanted to come to Malapascua for a dive trip and we stumbled upon Sea Explorers…read more Making arrangements was a breeze since the dive shop is connected to two hotels, Ocean Vida and Buena Vida. I finally committed this dive trip to getting my AOW and EANx certs. Sea Explorers made arrangements for our private transfer and had a car waiting for us at our hotel which took us to the pier. Once we arrived at the hotel and dive shop, we were quickly greeted by Keith and went over details on how we make arrangements for our dive trips and paired me up with Alexandra would be my AOW instructor. Since our room wasn't ready until 2, we opted to join the 9:30 and 1:30 charters. Though the vis wasn't great, we did see some pretty cool things. The main attraction here are the thresher sharks where we were fortunate to see during one of the two times we went out. Again vis wasn't ideal but we were able to make them out. The other attraction are the Mandarinfish which come out at sunset to mate. Would definitely recommend Sea Explorers to anyone and am hoping to make it back here one day.

The facilities are small: A reception-shop, a store with diving equipment, a warehouse for storing the equipment you are using at that time, a small classroom with TV and video and an outdoor area where besides cleaning the equipment after each dive can leave drying. Malapascua is the paradise for watching and diving with threser sharks, but perhaps is a good place also to start diving. If you go to Malapascua don't hesitate to come here to ask about prices and ask for Rubi to consult doubts about diving or PADI.
