Did a volcano tour with tour guide Grant. It was a spectacular experience and amazing views. Our tour guide is fantastic, he is funny, friendly, and knowledge. We went to Joe's coffee farm where we had sqndwich lunch. Then we went to a bakery, black sand beach, and then to volcano national park where we hike trails, enter lava tube, feel steam vent air, dinner at a fabulous hotel there, museum, and then view the volcano crater at night glowing bright red. read more

For readers, might as well not read any reviews prior to May 2015. They have all new 13 seat Ford shuttle vans. Admittedly the seating is tight. You will see mostly 5 star reviews here and deservedly so. If you come to the Big Island, then the volcano is an absolute must and it is a must at night. After a grueling there and back you will not want to drive back at night. At the going rate, it is well worth it and money well spent to leave the driving to KapohoKine. Our knowledgeable tour guide was Grant. I knew about him from this site prior to the tour and so glad we got him. As a 30+ year resident, there is almost nothing he doesn't know about the island. What an education. All the accolades he earned on this site well deserved. Go with KapohoKine and Grant to the Volcano. You'll be glad you did. read more

Rich was exceptionally awesome! We tipped him $20 for his excellent service with us. We went for Memorial Day weekend and they had us do the tour on Memorial Day. Since it was our Memorial Day, he spent extra time with us and made sure we enjoyed every moment. We did not care about timing so even though we got back later than he said we were supposed to... we loved that he made every part of the tour interesting. We wanted to spend more time on the tour but unfortunately we had him out longer than he was supposed to be. He told us some awesome stories about the Big Island and Hawaii in general. I definitely learned more about the culture and was generally interested in everything he had to say. We had a blast and loved how much energy and enthusiasm he had with us. He was great, the tour was fun & accommodated us with anything we needed: warm towels, snacks, water, & even a bathroom break because the Porto potty was broken with no toilet paper.... He was awesome and I would recommend Kapohokine to anyone who wants to tour around Big Island. It was definitely worth it. We did the Tour with the wine tasting and Volcano at the end. We did the zipline, helicopter ride, lava tour yesterday. It was a LONG day but we had a blast. Kent was our tour guide and he was super knowledgeable and sooo nice and accommodating. The helicopter tour was canceled (as were were about to load the helicopter due to "weather") and this company went above and beyond to accommodate us. I can't say enough great things about Kent and his tour. When you book make sure you ask for him if you really want to learn cool stuff!!! Exciting and a nice change of pace for your Hawaiian vacation. Our tour guides were comical and fun... but made sure we felt safe at all times. It is great for a large group of people, we had 7 and we were paired with a smaller group of 3 for our tour. The views while you zip down the lines are amazing from every angle. Beverages and Snacks (and a restroom break) were offered about halfway through. If you choose too, you can even take a swing on the giant swing located near the main office. I plan to return the next time I am on the Big Island, and maybe try out a few more complicated stunts on the line than I dared my first time around! read more

KapohoKine Adventures was absolutely the best company to choose when my friend and I went zip lining during our trip to Hawaii. They picked us up from our hotel in Kona and drove us the hour and a half to the other side of the island (with a hilarious number of dad jokes woven into the Hawaiian history they gave us along the way). The staff is incredibly trained, friendly and calming for the folks in our group who were a little bit more nervous. The zip lines were AMAZING, especially the last and longest (almost a half mile long!!). We opted for the swim under the waterfall with BBQ lunch and, although walking over the rocks to get to the waterfall was a bit painful, it was completely worth it and the BBQ was delicious. definitely a MUST DO if you're a visitor or even kama'aina! find this company on Groupon first then jumped on their website and reviews on trip advisor. I was impressed by how many shout outs people gave their tour guides and how many people raved about SAFETY...and decided to go with this company. it started off by calling their reservations team and asking if they price matched GROUPON. they said they have similar prices they can offer and bundled a go pro with it. they had the time and date availablefrom what I was looking at. my family was staying at the grand naniloa doubletree hotel and so it was very convenient to check in the day of the activity. the day of our activity we checked in a little earlier than suggested which was good. our group was large so it was nice to get a head of the crowd bc u do have to sign paperwork. took a 30min bah ride to the site and it was a beautiful drive. our driver was JESS and she was awesome! kept the conversation going and gave us a mini tour guide of the island and arra we were driving into. Once we pulled up to the first platform it happened all so fast. harness on, two guides double, triple checking our lines and SAFETY overview given by DESTINY! once safety briefing was over we went right into our zipping!!! I was very impressed by their professionalism and their fun personalities during the entire zipline. when doing this zipline please PLEASE listen to them. GET ON THE DAMN RED STEP AND DO NOT MOVE until they tell u to. lol #jussayin follow directions and instructions people. anyways our tour guides were TYLER, PAULINA, DESTINY, & JESS jumped in for a few lines. they were amazing. their energy was absolutely on point and it made the experience a memorable one. l Paulina- she did an amazing job harnessing us in the beginning and blows my mind how they keep track of all our lines, making sure we were lined up with our partners and keeping us "ducks in a row" she is absolutely amazing at what she does. Tyler- he was a great the whole 8 lines at keeping us calm and making sure we were doing okay. Also his small conversations in between made it a lot more comfortable while waiting on a 20 foot platform for the next line to open up. lol Destiny- shes hella CRAY and we love it. she exudes aloha spirit and kept things very lively the entire time. laughing is the number one medicine for people who are afraid of heights and saved a few light keiki who couldn't make the entire line. lol shes awesome. We are so glad that we did the stargazing trip out of Hilo! We had a healthy drive from Waimea but we were excited to explore the island, especially Rainbow Falls and the Caverns. Stargazing was informative, chilly, and fun nerding out with star geeks (Joey, John - I use that term lovingly)! Each night after we found ourselves looking to the skies to see what we could find ourselves. The stories, facts, and passing glimpse of the International Space Station made the time fly! If you are flying in from the east coast, be sure to give yourselves at least a day or two to acclimate- we were pretty beat by 9 pm! read more

This place has amazing views. Everything about this adventure was fun. They pick you up at a designated location and drive you to the Ziplines. All of the staff are very friendly and have really cool facts about Hawaii. We all felt confident in their skills and gear. What an amazing experience with a phenomenal crew---from the tour van driver to the zipline crew! They were all very knowledgeable, skilled, funny & friendly! Went w/ 2 girlfriends today from Kona, ended up w/ perhaps a dozen strangers on our "purple" team, but on our 7th and final suspended trek, we were chatting & laughing like one big family. This zip lining adventure was amazing. If you are hesitant fear not this one is for you. I'm scared of heights but I conquered it. The first two were slightly intimidating but the other 5 came easy and those are the ones over forest. The zip line guides were incredible from start to finish. If I could change anything about my visit to Hawaii it would be that we do this first. They gave us tons of informative information about the island as well as places to visit which would have been handy except we went on our last day. Our driver Maddie was great she was a very cheerful person although we were a bit quiet. Thankfully she had my mom up front to talk to. She gave us some good Hilo information and places to visit and eat. The fear was something we had to overcome quickly and we were a family of many different fear and age levels. My mom was deathly afraid and she conquered it with the continued support and encouragement from all the guides. My little sister (10) was a beast and she took off with no problem. For the little (in size) kids they give a little extra push if needed or also (if needed) they ride tandem with them. Shout out time! I'm starting with McKenna because she rescued me in the middle of the zipline thank you, you are a beast. Henry, you could really tell you loved this job, little did you know the small things help and you just leaning back on your ropes helped create a sense of trust in me in my ropes. Forest, wasn't even part of our group but he was still a huge help in moving it forward for us as he helped move clips over while we waited for our guys. Also, he always had so many facts to share. My brother and sister were first in our tour group and my brother told us later, " you guys didn't get to know Forest like I did, Forest is great". Finally, Alex you were absolutely amazing. We went with a big group of 18 (age range 7-40+) and we all had a great time! We were separated into two groups but we still had a chance to all gather at the waterfall stop. We took the evening volcano tour from and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a comprehensive trip. Rich was our guide, he was funny, informative, helpful, and clearly loved sharing this experience with us. We first went and saw an old lava flow and black sand beach and rich pointed out interesting details of the area all along the way. We received food and drinks as needed, which was nice after a hot walk on the black top. Dinner is included with the tour and, while it wasn't the best food I've ever had, it was a great way to take a break and refuel before going into the lava tubes. Rich then took us to the museum to see the exhibits and the lava glow in the evening. He was happy to accommodate our desire to stay later to take photos as it got darker, which was excellent. It was great to be able to get shots of the stars and Milky Way which we might not have been able to do were it not for Rich's flexibility. We were also dropped back off at the house we were staying. Rich also mentioned that they can arrange for pick up as well if you ask. I know it sounds ridiculous at the outset when you're enjoying hot weather, but take their suggestion to pack a jacket seriously. It was in the 50s at the museum. Also eat lunch before you go, you'll do a bit of walking before dinner. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great overview of the big island, Hawaiian culture, folklore, astronomy, and volcanology. It felt like an extremely thorough trip and was well worth the time and money. read more

We did the Zip Line Through Paradise trip and had a fantastic time! Great scenery and an amazing experience for novice and experiences zip liners! We had grandparents, parents and small children in our group (6 and 8 maybe) and they were totally eased into the experience by the amazing guides (Anthony, Dishman, and fantastic guy from South Africa (sorry can't recall your name :-/ ) these guys were so fantastic! They were funny and informative and made everyone feel safe and comfortable. The equipment is top notch, double zip cables and locked in while on platforms so everyone was very safe while having a blast! We have amazing GoPro footage from this trip and great stills as well! We brought our own GoPro but they have them to rent and they guides are awesome about helping you turn them on and off at each of the 8 lines!!
