** Evening Volcano Tour from Kohala ** We took this tour on June 30, with Erik as our guide. We are a family of 4 (Mom, Dad, 2 girls -- 8 and 12). It was our first trip to Hawaii and the Big Island. We booked this tour because: 1. We wanted to see the Volcano in the evening, but we didn't want to do all the driving that it would require, since we were staying quite far from Kilauea. 2. We wanted to have a guide to answer our questions so we could get more out of the trip. 3. We were interested in seeing the additional stops on the trip that we wouldn't bother to make a special trip for (Coffee plantation, Bakery with Malasadas, Black Sand beach). This trip exceeded all of our expectations and was a highlight of our whole time in Hawaii. Our tour guide was Erik, and he was absolutely great. We had so many questions by the time we took this trip, and he answered all of them! We really learned a lot. The van was pretty new and as large and comfortable as its gets. Big windows, very clean. Not a minivan or full-sized van, but a real touring van. We were a group of 12 in total, plus driver. I think it could have taken 13, but not more. They brought a booster seat for my youngest. Snacks, drinks, walking sticks. KapohoKine was a really professional and prepared outfit. I injured myself on day 2 of our trip, so I the walking stick was helpful. My daughter got a blister and Erik had a band-aid. Little things like that make a difference. they really try to be prepared. We were never in the van for more than an hour. When the group had to wait for someone to catch up, Erik had lots of information on the stuff around us to talk about. The Trip was well-paced. Pick up at 10am, Coffee Farm and lunch at 11am in Kona, Malasadas and Black Sand beach from 12-2. Volcanoes National Park from 3 to 7:30 with dinner at the Volcano House (which was excellent) from 5-6. We had ample time at the park and did several short walks to see different things, including the Thurston Lava Tube, Sulfur vents, Steam Vents, and more. I wish I could name all the stuff we saw, but who would read it! We were all able to nap while Erik drove back to Kohala (2 hours). From our point of view, this trip was worth every penny and was a highlight of our trip. The black sand beach was absolutely amazing as were the sights in the park. We loaded up on coffee to bring back to everyone from Kona Joes. We arrived home not exhausted because we didn't drive and were ready for another adventure the next day. Thanks, Erik! Marcus was our driver/guide for the Zippin' Volcano tour. He was knowledgeable, friendly and super accommodating. The weather for the Volcano portion of the tour was rainy, foggy, misty, wet, voggy and just horrible. We really could not see much of anything. Those that selected the heli tour were disappointed as it was cancelled. Because of that it was a really long afternoon, evening and night. The entire trip was from 7:15 am to 10pm The ZIPPIN portion was gorgeous and so much fun! Alex, Ashley, Kai, and newcomer Abby were fun and really made this an adventure. I was impressed with the safety taken with us but also with themselves. The waterfalls were flowing and we could see the ocean and forests. A MUST DO! Get the GoPro so you can relive the adventure when you arrive home. Lunch was huge sandwiches - really too big to eat - chips, soda and island fresh fruit (yum). We loved today's zip line adventure for our family! All the zip guides were fun, informative and explained everything we need to know to prepare us for each line. The ride/shuttle there is a bit bumpy but we were warned and we rather have a bumpy shuttle than have to hike our way up to the lines, so it's all good. The zips were great, and loved the waterfall views! They did great memorizing each one of our names, and even offered to stop to pick a fresh fruit from the orchard. All in all, we had a great experience! One more thing, pack a snack to eat in between because you stop for break which they offer some local fruit, we don't stop for a lunch break unless you plan to eat during the break. read more

It was so much fun. Brett was a great guide. Did the tour w evening volcano. Love walking through jungle, through lava pipes eating at volcano winery (ice tea wine amazing) was delicious. Coffee farm had wonderful views. Order the sandwich, the salad looked anemic not a fan of iceberg lettuces. Coffee cherry skins are deliciuos. Regret not buying peaberry coffee. I cant wait to come back. Want the lava hike and zipline. Hopefully no rain! read more

A couple coworkers and I went on the first Nightmare in Paradise and really enjoyed our experience! The staff planned a very fun night and it was definitely worth the $89 we paid for it. The "zombies" along the trail really added to the Halloween experience and the setup of the trail was perfect for Halloween. Ziplining was soooo much fun and I can't wait to do it again! We ended the night with a delicious dinner the staff cooked and there was complimentary beer and champagne. We took the volcano tour yesterday. Eight of us in a high-headroom van that could fit 13. Lawrence, our driver, was incredible. He provided stories and history and described points of interest the entire time that we were on the road (pickup at 11:15 AM dropoff at 10:00 PM). The highlights of the tour were the walk through a lava tube and the after-dark viewing of the Kilauea crater. Super value for the price. read more

An amazing, fascinating, fun and thrilling day was had by all. Our tour guide - John greeted us at the hotel promptly as was scheduled (630am on Kona side) and proceeded to pick up another couple and we were on our way. He was so amazingly informative - you could just tell he truly loves what he does. His stories of Hawaiian lore were engaging and facts about the history and geography of the island were presented in a timely manner - not all at once - so you could take in the scenery on the drive over to Hilo. Upon arrival to the office - the staff was quick to process your paperwork and be weighed for the zip. The road trip up to the zip lines should be added to the tour as a cool off-road experience as a bonus. The zipline crew staff ( Josh, Kaiko and Eiko) were focused on making sure you were safe in a fun and comedic manner - not overly authoritative as other places have been. Their team approach to ensure you a great experience, from remembering names, sharing silly stories to rescuing you if you need it without embarrassment, combined with the sheer thrill and natural beauty of the waterfalls and ocean views made it a phenomenal experience. However our day was just getting started. We switched tour guides for the volcano tour - Randy was extremely informative and a genuinely fascinating person. He shared his excellent command of knowledge about volcanos and the flora and fauna of the island while stopping at various spots in The Volcano National Park. As we approached twilight we headed over to Volcano Winery for wine tasting and a BBQ meal. The winery owners and their staff served up 7 wine tastings and poured a complimentary glass to have with your meal. After the meal, the owners provided tours of the vineyard and bottling operation. Extremely friendly and not pushy on purchasing their wines. Actually the didn't even make that suggestion like other wineries often do. We then switched back to John for two more stops - Volcano glow and Jagger Museum. His knowledge about the starry sky made the cool autumn night worth it - and the complimentary jacket to use for the tour - was a nice touch. While we had a long drive back - Jon shared more stories with us early in the trip and then allowed the softly playing music sway us to close our eyes for the last hour of the drive, returning to our hotel around 11-1130. It was truly a thrilling and mystical amazing day!!! read more

DO NOT MISS THIS ZIPLINE! The staff is great; they consistently check in on how each guest is enjoying themselves, making them feel comfortable and excited throughout the entire tour. The ziplines are UNBELIEVABLE! I've been ziplining a few times, and they truly don't compare to this one! You zip over multiple waterfalls; the views are truly phenomenal. It's great for all ages, and I recommend it even if you're scared of heights. I certainly can be at times, but it was worth every second! This is a must-do tour. DON'T MISS OUT! Helpful Hint: Bring bug spray if you're prone to being bit. Also, don't worry about bathrooms - they're available at check-in, and there are two on location. HAVE FUN! read more

We took the tour in Hilo on Tuesday August 29. We did the Twin Falls (I hope that's correct--Akaka falls was one. It was beautiful and the greenery and flowers were stunning. Our guide, I think his name was Daniel, was really good. Told us a lot about Hilo and other stuff. It was an easy walk, which for me was great. The best thing was it was pouring as we were leaving Akaka falls. We booked this tour through AAA so they used this company. Definitely a good company read more

We took the afternoon tour to see the waterfalls and lava cave and then ended the evening with a view of the volcano. It was absolutely spectacular!!! What a life changing experience! This July my family and I rented a house on the Hilo side of the Big Island. We did a ton of research as we wanted 2 days of "touristy stuff" but the rest of the time was all about hangin Hawaiian style! Out of all the activities we contemplated, we could not have been more thankful we decided to experience the zipline through Kapohokine Adventures. I am a wedding and event planner so I am extremely spoiled by my industry and quite frankly, am hard to impress at times. The staff was absolutely incredible! Our kids are 8, 9 and 11. I wasn't sure if they would be ok with this whole idea of hanging on a wire! They loved it! Our guides were Cory, Sam and Kahea. They made my kids laugh AND they made my them feel safe. They instantly became part of our family that day. The expressions on my children's faces were priceless. Thank goodness we decided to purchase the steady cam feature because now we have our memories documented forever! I will admit, I really wasn't sure if the steady cams were going to be worth it but as we zipped, I was sooooo happy we decided to do it! It truly was a moment, an experience with my family that will stay with me forever and more importantly, I know it will be an experience my children will never forget. Thank you Kapohokine! Wow what a great adventure! The 8-line zip line was an amazing start to the day complete with lush green forests, macadamia nut farm (with wild boar sightings-saw momma and piglets), and spectacular waterfalls! The guides (Chris, Orie & Colton were fun, sFe & efficient (& we had a full group of 13) so wait times at take off sites were minimized and entertaining with local history and goofy jokes. I Had Colton (the more quiet/serious(?) one) and Chris cracking up big time with my 10-point starfish form coming down the line! There's a bonus off road rock and roll bouncy ride through mac nut, sweet potato, & ginger farm land to the take off point that had my daughter (12) laughing up a storm with every tush-lifting bump! The afternoon followed with a stroll along the rim of one of Kilauea's quiet craters & through an enormous lava tube at Volcano park. The day concluded with dinner at the hotel restaurant at the crater's edge and sunset views of the firery red glowing steam pouring out of the active crater-impressive observation of Nature! Our guide, Dan, politely answered questions, told folk lore island stories and safely delivered us to all our destinations...no small task given that we took off from the opposite side of the island and traversed up and over the 6,000+ foot elevation of Saddle Road there and back. Thank you Dan! So glad we did this tour and would do it again! Next time, since I now realize we can leave things secured in the van,I will bring along clothes for widely varying possibility of temperatures and weather conditions since one never knows and we did in fact have some refreshing chilly rain throughout the day. Thankfully, rain coats were provided at the zip line , and some were available in the tour van as well. Sacks, lunch and dinner all plentiful so from start to finish you feel well cared for and without a worry in the world! ENJOY! read more

Toured a Kona coffee farm, visited the southern most bakery (highly recommend trying the lilokoi malasada), black sand beach, Thurston lava tube, dinner and wine tasting at the Volcano winery, and returning to see the "glow" and Jegger museum. Booked a combination zip line, helicopter tour and volcanoes visit through Kapoohine Adventures. That day was the highlight of our Big Island trip. Everything was first class (zip line through Zip Lines Through Paradise, Blue Hawaiian Helicopters).They took care of everything, including a great dinner and wine tasting at the Volcano Winery. John, our guide and driver for the day, was fabulous. He was warm, accommodating, knowledgeable, funny and friendly, all of which greatly enhanced each of the activities. Had so much fun zipling! Our guides (Ona, Anthony, Tyler and Joey) were super-friendly. They were very energetic, took the time to learn everyone's name, and did a great job of putting everyone at ease. The drive up from the hotel is very bumpy, but packed with a lot of interesting facts about the history of Hilo. There are 8 lines (each side-by-side) and the views (especially of the waterfall) are spectacular, with a break midway through the course for fresh fruit. read more

Highly, highly recommended. Great tour package. My girlfriend and I did the zip-line and helicopter tour, followed by dinner at the Volcano Winery near the summit of Mt. Kilauea.
