The staff is knowledgeable and help you choose a wine or a tequila, etc.. great you're trying to purchase a gift. Talking about gifts they have fabulous gift packages and very expensive exclusive bottles which are locked up and you need to ask for assistance. Particularly with the tequila selection they have some fabulous bottles that I haven't seen anywhere else. The store is lodge well kept and clean. Parking is easy they have a huge parking lot available. Christmas is coming going and grab the specials. I wish there was 150 stars to give this place. I have never ever encountered such unbelievable customer service IN MY LIFE!! It's my husband and my anniversary today and yesterday I was going crazy looking for this rare Japanese whiskey he had mentioned called the MATSUI. I had already been to the Malden location and they didn't have it, but offered to call the Medford location for me. When the man called he said I was "lucky to have got Megan on the phone" and BOY WAS HE RIGHT! There was ONE left at their location and they said they would hold it for me. Come to find out it actually wasn't in there store, but Megan assured me she could try to work something out and have to call their distributer and see if they could overnight it so I could get it by this morning before my husband got home from work to make it in time for our anniversary dinner. Megan was in touch with me multiple times during the day giving me updates, and even left me a voicemail at 7:30pm CONFIRMING SHE GOT OFFICIAL WORD WE WOULD HAVE IT FOR TODAY!! I was freaking out and so so grateful !! MEGAN YOU ARE LITERALLY A SUPERHERO AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THE AMOUNT OF CARE, AND TIME you took for me to receive this gift. You could have easily said "we are out of stock" and moved on. BUT NO!! You put in so much extra time, effort, and haste I will never ever forget this experience and will NEVER EVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR OUR LIQUOR!!! Fast forward to this morning, I had a wonderful man Jimmy call me to give me the BEST NEWS THAT THE BOTTLE HAD ARRIVED AND HE HAD PUT IT ASIDE FOR ME!! I COULD HUG MEGAN AND JIMMY FOREVERR!! Amazing store with great selection. Jimmy in the liquor department has always been spot on for recommendations based on the bottles I have previously purchased even grabbed my number and followed up when the new Ardbeg special release I was looking for came in. This happened years ago but I'll never forget going to buy wine here and I had my toddler son with me. The cashier refused to sell me the wine bc my son was not 21. I thought it was a joke and I said don't worry he won't be drinking any wine. I asked to speak to the manager and they agreed they could not sell the wine to us and that I had to leave my child alone in the car and come back inside by myself if I wanted to make the purchase. F$ck this place. Not to get anyone in trouble but a different Kappy's location used to offer my son lollipops at the register. I'm a reasonable person who will not leave a toddler alone in a car or serve alcohol to a toddler. Will never give this place business again. read more

They have the biggest selection of wine in the Boston area and for the best prices. They have a variery of things here. The employees are helpful and nice. My only issue here is that in order for them to sell you liquor everyone has to be 21. I was with my nephew and he is 19. But I get that the policy must be set in place with reason. read more

But what's best about Kappy's is that there's always an expert who is willing to help me select something, find a specific item, and even special order something. The staff are always pleasant. They always have what I am looking for even when it's hard to find elsewhere. They are always fully stocked and have a huge selection of everything you are looking for. Can't find what you need, ask. So I don't post reviews typically. But seeing some of the negative reviews just doesn't make sense. I'm a bourbon guy and now I guess can be considered someone who collects and enjoys. I don't flip bottles because I think bourbon should be enjoyed. When I first found out that Kappy's and Jimmy (Sprints Director) were creating a new club (1940 Barrel Society) I was intrigued. Wasn't quite sure what to expect as I hadn't been in a club like that before. After talking with Jimmy over the past few months, I've seen major progress in revamping the whisk(e)y selection. It's not just a single aisle, but and entire back wall of the store! It's also not just the same stuff you can find elsewhere. There are definitely some gems at the store. I feel like I've gotten to know Jimmy pretty well, enough for him to know what I would probably like. And you know something? He's right a lot of the time. Some of the 1940 Barrel Society's barrels have been fantastic. Can't speak for all of them as I haven't tried them all. They also aren't going for just the mass market brands either. I enjoy expanding both my collection and knowledge of different types and subtypes of whisk(e)y. The society also allows me to collect cards when I purchase some of the bottles that I can redeem for the opportunity to buy, what some may call, prized or allocated bottles. Can't say I've won just yet, but here's hoping. I'm realistic enough to know that I'm not going to win every time nor should I. I come down from NH specifically to go to Kappy's because of their bourbon selection and their staff is always friendly and welcoming. I've talked with both the liquor manager and the store manager, who are incredibly knowledgeable about the products they sell. I've seen big improvements in the bourbon program, especially with the introduction of the 1940 Barrel program. Updated: I got a call from the liquor manager after my visit who let me know that my concerns have quickly been addressed by company management. I love entertaining at my house on the weekends so I have a fridge stocked with Henekeins, white russians, a variety of smirnoff ice's, coronas, and my favorite- lime-a rita's. Kappy's has the goods for a lot cheaper than other LQ stores. They always have some sort of alcohol or wine vendor giving out tasty samples of something that I usually end up buying. The staff is generally friendly and laid back ( I would be too if I work there & got to constantly use my 5 senses to interact with booze). The only downfall is sometimes only 2 registers are open and the line moves slower than a race between the turtle and the hare. read more

The beer guy at Kappy's told me that they stopped ordering Asahi in 1 liter cans b/c no one was asking for it. Idiot. I have been asking for it many times, but they usually tell me that it is sold out. Then I check the cooler before leaving and there are 15 cans on the top shelf behind some other stuff. Okay, I get 12 for a case (although they couldn't come up with a box) and they insisted to charge me the price for individual cans. It's not the money, but the principal. After being unable to go to my best friend's birthday outing for his 40th birthday I knew I had to make up for it somehow. I'm so happy that Kappy's isn't too far from my place of employment and their hours are late. My friend is a rather refined drinker, and he loves Scotch. I found a reasonably priced 17 year old (bottle) for him for his birthday/I'm sorry for being such a corny friend basket. Their aisles stretch far and wide and the other patrons were really helpful with helping me choose a bottle. There weren't too many associates available, but as I mentioned it was relatively late. I'm never disappointed when I go to Kappys Medford. John always has incredible knowledge about wines and he continues to impress me with his selections (he knows exactly what me and my fiance like!) James is extremely helpful when looking for spirit selections and can usually get some great, harder to find bottles. Tyler is also great when it comes to finding beer that not many stores have/carry. Went here during the quarantine as I have many times over the last 15 years of living a couple miles away. Filled up the carriage so we did not have to leave the house for beer and the such for a while. Got to the front of the line and they asked to card me and my wife. She didn't bring her purse, her bad. We are 44. I had my ID....the cashier called for the manager who started barking at me in a condescending tone and told me it was illegal to sell me anything even though I am of age and had my ID. He told me it was illegal. I left feeling confused, but took my business elsewhere. When I got home, looked up the law. It is illegal for anyone under age 21 to possess alcohol. However there are exceptions. One is possession in the presence of a consenting parent or guardian. Another is with their spouse who is 21 or older. A third is for adults as part of their employment. Pretty clear, that not only was the manager wrong , but also a complete jerk for treating us like criminals . I will never go back to any Kappy's. I'd rather pay more somewhere else or take a ride to total wine. Manager needs to learn he can't treat customers like crap and expect them to come back. From Hoegaarden to Tsing Tao, Dom to Fuki Sake, Kappy's has you covered. Plenty of parking, and one of the few places where you can actually recycle your beer cans and bottles (be prepared to wait in line to recycle on the weekends, however, as this seems to be a popular way to spend a Saturday). On one recent visit, a staff member went out of his way to help us choose the right Asian beer to go with the pad thai we were having for dinner. Too funny. This place is nestled deep in the butt crack of Wellington Circle so it's near impossible to get to. But if your navigation skills are up to par then it's definitely worth the trip. If you can't find the beer you're looking for at Kappy's then it doesn't exist. I bet winos would be equally impressed with the selection. My favorite part about Kappy's is the huge local brew selection. They have tons of beers from Night Shift, Slumbrew and some of the other smaller New England breweries. I've been here several times over the years and while it's a PITA to get to, it works and it's relatively cheap vs smaller stores in the area. The parking lot might be a mess on a Friday or Saturday, and you may see the line and wonder if you should go for it, yup.. go for it. It moves pretty quick.
