So, there's really awesome bits about Mix karaoke, and then there's some not-so-awesome bits. The…read moredeal, and booking, appeared to be easy - but I'll leave that up to Tori W to explain, since she purchased the deal and organised it for us! It was karaoke UYE number two, and we were psyched to get in and have a right sing. Having downed a quick one at the Angel, we trundled up to the top floor, where the private booths are. And somehow ended up with the huge one! There's easily enough room for 25 people or so in the end booth, but it meant we got to spread out.
The staff were attentive, sorting the welcome drink, taking orders and things, but perhaps came in a little too often to clear glasses. I realise they were trying to get more drink orders, but it meant many interruptions to the singing - which not everyone would appreciate. Plus, there's a handy bar you can order from in the upstairs, so no need to even leave! Our booth even had an en suite loo, but shy pee-ople can go in the other loos, just near the bar.
Now, the real bind. The song choices! Seriously lacking, and the system was not intuitive! Compared to OK Karaoke, I felt like almost all the ones we wanted to sing were available but not here. No Etta James? No Janis Joplin? Come on! Although, they almost made up for it with the WEIRD videos that had been made to songs that they didn't have the original videos for. They provided tons of entertainment.
The booth itself, however, is MUCH nicer than OK. Not at all like a scruffy tired sex dungeon, more like a classy quirky kitsch private living room. I love the gorgeous glass tables, low lighting, and comfy leather seating. Plus, a complimentary bubbly is way better than a complimentary shot of green. So, it's difficult to decide which I prefer! Classy but virtually no songs? Or dingy but all the sings you like? You decide :) But I'm up for a third karaoke outing - I'm liking the fun!
