Karara Barrhaven. DONOT recommend! Horrible! I understand the COVID-19 pressures during this time; however, we had a huge order placed and when received...it wasn't fresh at all. The Tandoori roti- HARD difficulty to chew The naan - very chewy Goat mutton - SOUR tasting Curry Chicken - SOUR tasting Baingan Bhurta- Tasted OLD and sour Paneer Butter Masala - Delicious Channa Masala - okay I called to speak with the manager and the girl that unanswered was completely unhelpful- she could t care less about the horrible tasting food and when I asked about speaking with the manager...she didn't know when the manager would be on shift this date, she didn't know when the manager's next shift would be and she did not know what times the manager works. RIDICULOUS! I have bought from many Indian restaurants and have never come across such ridiculous service. I hope they can rectify this because as it stands I DO NOT RECOMMEND this Barrhaven location at least. 95% of my food I had to throw out because it was inedible!!! read more

Too expensive and the fish pakoras had no flavor or salt added to it. When called to let them know forget about Sorry or anything else. The lady says oh for next time just let us know to add salt to it as this is how the fish pakoras are made. Like seriously. Total waste of time and money. Look somewhere else where they care for their customers. read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. The food is mediocre for the price and to make it even worse it is not even close to authentic. We ordered mutton biryani take out. Mutton biryani is oily and cooked with low quality meat and rice. It wasn't dum. Looks like it's mixed with meaty bone curry plus rice. My lunch libre was barely palatable. Please avoid this place especially when health is under radar with COVID. read more

This is just a take out counter. At 100$ these guys are WAY overcharging. The sauces are shipped from other locations(Merivale) so take that for what it's worth. Everything is sticky and despite inspirational posters on hospitality it's not translating into workers. Two pissed customers left while I waited. They didn't. read more

Good food ive ordered here 3 times but nope not ordering here again, I spent 70$ and when the food arrived the chicken curry had a Hair in it, the delivery guy forgot 4 samosas and 2 sides of rice. Way too Overpriced! Food is stale, and does not provide any complementry sauces with dinner plates. Everything is extra. Be careful!

This was my first visit to Karara. I ordered an All-Day Combo with chicken curry, aloo mattar, rice, naan and a gulab jamun (like a plain Timbit in a super-sweet sauce). I also had a mango lassi (a yoghurt drink). I ordered medium heat, which turned out to be a good spice level for me, but a tiny bit spicier would have been better. I've been to India 3 times - Bangalore, Delhi, all through Rajasthan and most recently Ladakh (very northern part of India), so I have a pretty good idea what authentic Indian food tastes like. The best I can say is that the naan was excellent, warm and fresh. The chicken curry and the aloo mattar were alright, but not exceptional. Rice is rice. I'm afraid the gulab jamun was not good, with an almost burnt aftertaste to it. The chicken was boneless, which was nice (in India it would be served chopped up with bones), but the pieces were too large to eat in one bite, and there were only 3 pieces of chicken. Because the pieces were so large, the sauce didn't reach the centre portions of the chicken. If the same amount of chicken was cut up into bite-sized pieces it would have been much better. The curry was alright, but didn't live up to the curries I've eaten in India. The aloo mattar (peas & potatoes in sauce) was spicier than the chicken curry, which wasn't a surprise - veggie dishes in India are commonly spicier then the non-veggie. Again, it was alright but no where near as good as I've had in India. Maybe comparing a North American take-out Indian restaurant to actually being in India isn't fair, but it's hard not to when authentic Indian food is so good. I guess my expectations were just too high for my first visit. read more

I have been eating at this restaurant for years but i am not going back. The Merivale location is the better location. The Strandherd location has failed 3 times. The people are clearly miserable in their job. No smiles no joy just sullen faces that don't even ask how they may help uou, they hust looked at me with blank faces. I used to order the chana masala and butter chicken naan bread and basmati rice with a little sugar soaked timbit for desert. This combo had great value andcwas perfect quantity of food for one hearty appetite. They no longer offer this special. 3 times in a row i went and ghe butter chicken tasted diferent each time. One time it was burnt, one time too salty, one time bland and greasy. No consistancy of product. Same story with the Chana Masala. One time too salty, one time under cooked chick peas one time greasy and cold. Combine poor quality with blank stares, no warmth or friendliness, and elimination of value combos and you have a perfect place for disatisfaction. Go to the Strandherd location if you don't care what you eat or how much it costs and enjoy unpleasent people. If not....skip it. I used to love this place. Not anymore. BTW i forgot to mention they didnt even put the styrofoam lids on properly and it leaked out in my bag and car. Seriously...how hard is it to put a lid on a container. They used to out your food inside a plastic bag so leaks would be cotained. Save the agro go somewhere else. read more

We have only ever ordered take-out from Karara and some of the items are fantastic: onion bajis (different, but really good), veggie samosas, the naan is Amazing, and all the food is always fresh and enjoyable however, the dishes are a bit unusual. The Chicken Tikka Marsala contains peppers and the sauce is quite yummy but odd. The Butter Chicken has quite a kick but the Vindaloo is not particularly spicy. The food is really quite enjoyable but It's different, so when we have a craving for a different Indian flavour, we jump online and set up our delivery order. The ordering system offers points that work towards discounts on future orders and the points add up quite quickly. Karara is certainly my go-to local spot for Indian take-away. read more

I ordered the Punjabi Thalli tonight, meal for 1 person and was pretty disappointed. The beef curry was ok chunks of beef in a watery and too much lemon sauce. The chicken curry was ok chicken in a very watery sauce, pretty much a bland soup. The channa masala was ok but I've had much better in Barrhaven (from elsewhere). The there was also some pickled onion and dry red cabbage grated - not tasty or flavourful, just lots of vinegar. The naan bread that came with it wasn't fully cooked, it had the squishy raw dough still in the center. Overall very disappointed, not the quality or taste I experienced from karara 3-5 years ago. read more

Overall I would say this is great Indian takeout. Food was delicious, especially the butter chicken. The naan bread was large and very fresh. Decent pricing as well. We will definitely order here again in the near future. read more

I'm writing this review a little late, but figured since I wrote a great review before, I should update it. I used to love this takeout Indian, but we went back about a year ago (maybe 1.5 years) and we're surprised to see that the prices went up about $3 each. A little steep, but we were willing to pay it for good food. We bought 3 of our favourite dishes, chicken tikka massala, eggplant and another that I can't remember. We were terribly disappointed that the tastes were totally different and they tasted poor. Haven't been back since. I'm not sure if they changed owners or what, but it was a big disappointment. read more

Spent $26.89 for Butter Chicken with Rice and two garlic naans. Received a bowl of sauce the rice and naan. TWO tiny cubes of chicken at the bottom of the sauce! Had no choice but to pour the sauce over the rice and eat it as rice soup. read more

This place had COCKROACHES and remained open the whole time knowing full well that they had them (you can check the ministry website to see when they were closed and then cleared). The place has been going downhill for a long time (in both portions and quality), the cockroaches are just the icing on the cake. Find another place to eat. read more

Change of cook in the last month. Recipes seem to have changed. Not as good. Vegetables seem rotten, and food is cold. Onion phaji is mushy and under cooked. Has gone downhill, not as fresh and tasty as before. read more

Very good food and they have my favourite appetizer (which is not available at most Indian Restauratns in Ottawa)- Aloo Tikka (you MUST try this potato with chick peas/ tamarind sauce appetizer). It's to die for. read more
