Afgan naan and Cheesy garlic naan

Why does this restaurant only have 35 reviews and 4 star?!? This place deserve more patrons and 5 stars!!! Husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant when we were craving Kabobs on our 5 day trip to Ottawa. We got here on a weekday about 20 minutes before they close but did not feel rushed at all. Emily and Sarah served us and they are the sweetest! Everything we ordered was great and while I am typing this review, my mouth is salivating. We ordered a bunch of food and had leftovers which was perfect was next day's lunch. We had: Shami Kabob, Bowlani, Salang Salad, Afghan Naan, Cheesy Garlic Naan, Eggplant Quorma, Butter Chicken, side of rice and Firnee. Highly recommend eating here. It is a very simple no frill restaurant, but the food is fantastic and more than compensates for the lack of a fancy decor.

    Mix kabob platter

This place is a typical Afghani restaurant - the exact same kabob with rice, salad, naan and even the sauce. The kabob is cooked to near perfection - it's tender and rich in flavour. The rice is a tiny bit too oily and the salad is pretty disappointing (literally just veggies cut into pieces with no salt or spices). The sauces are a bit weird to my taste - I don't feel like they go well with their kabob or salad. Other than that, they serve large portions, so it's a really good option for when you're feeling extra hungry or you want to eat with a large company. I think I will be returning here as I liked the quality and taste of their food but probably will ask to get the platter without the salad.

call me old fashioned but I like it when my food is cooked after I place my order - that is what happens here - it takes a while but I think it's worth the wait - they don't care if you are in a rush that's how they operate - take it or leave it!! and I like that :) You can order here your choice of meats (chicken, lamb, beef) on a skewer or served on a bed of mildly fragrant and tasty basmati rice along with lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes and white sauce - also comes with afghani bread (kinda like Indian naan but no oil or butter on it and dry) it's kinda hard has the texture of a baguette but very tasty. I tried only one dish here the Chicken tandoori combo and it was delicious a good balance of spices and aroma - not like a bang but it'll grown on you as you complete your meal oh yeah and don't forget to taste that red sauce which looks and tastes a bit like salsa but has a bang to it - they come in those little plastic containers I would def. go here again - I recommend you check it out too!

It's a bit slow so expect to wait for your meal. The restaurant has been completely renovated and the atmosphere is casual and friendly. My boyfriend and I normally order the tandori chicken plate with the eggplant korma side. Everything is so delicious and worth the wait. You order at the counter and they call out your number when your food is ready. The portions are big and come out hot.

My friend got the Chicken Breast Kabob ($14.98) which was 1 skewer of chicken breast kabobs, rice, salad and naan bread. My Chicken Shami was moist and very flavourful. It was well marinated and quite tasty. The rice was soft and fluffy. The salad was fresh, but a bit boring with just iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions. Be warned that the non-creamy sauce that looks like salad dressing is very spicy. Unless you love hot spicy food, do not make the mistake that my friend made by dumping all that sauce on the salad without tasting it first, lol. The white creamy sauce was not spicy, and tasted good with the chicken. I'm actually not sure which one is supposed to go on the salad, lol. The naan flatbread was fantastic and my favourite part of the meal. It was a bit crispy on the outside, but had a good amount of chew to it. There were some small blisters on the bread. I love blistery bread! I will be dreaming of this bread. Yeah, it was that good! Since we were in the midst of the second wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic during our visit, indoor dining was closed again, so it was takeout only. They normally have a lot of seating indoors. I finally went there recently and ordered some meat pies ($2 each) and meat and cheese pies ($2.75 each). Both types of pies were great, but I liked the meat and cheese one the most. The cheese was so chewy, and slightly squeaky. It reminded me of cheese curds. The meat was well seasoned and wasn't too sour or too salty like at some places. The dough was thin and slightly crispy, not doughy. I like thin and crispy, so I liked the dough. The meat had a slight smokey flavour to it, but not as much as Aladdin's. I compare most meat pies to Aladdin's because they are my favourite, but Al Noor is a very very close second. They are both very similar. Al Noor's has more meat and cheese but Aladdin's has more of that smokey flavour that I like. The bakery has some seats so you can eat your food there. They also sell some sweets that are prepackaged (not baked there). They also sell beverages. I didn't like the fact that the staff did not wear gloves while they prepared my food. Nor did I see them washing their hands at any point. The man preparing my food was actually holding his phone with one hand (and watching a video on it) and preparing my food with this other hand (and occasionally touching his phone with the food preparing hand). Minus 1 star for (lack of) sanitation. If staff wore gloves, this place would get 5 stars from me. Staff are nice enough. The place is bigger than I expected. It's in a strip mall on Wylie just off Carling (you can see the bakery from Carling). There is a small parking lot in front, so there is free parking but it's limited. And this may be a bit random, but the entrance door is really really heavy, lol. If you love meat pies, give Al Noor a try!

There's a Bamika Kabab sign in the window, but if you're looking for a storefront, look for House of Greek. I usually prefer to order directly from restaurants but UberEats lured me in with their specials. I got the Chicken Kabab Platter. It's usually $24.99, but UberEats was having a buy one get one free offer, so I got 2 platters for $24.99. Then I had a $10 off $20 or more discount on top of that! I could not pass on such a wicked deal! Lol. Anyway, I ordered for pickup, since it's not far from my house and drove over to get it. When I opened the door, there was a little girl playing in the room. She said hi to me and ran to get a man who I'm guessing is her dad, but I could be wrong. He greeted me and I said I was there for an UberEats pickup and showed him the code on my phone. He went over to the table and said that order was mine (it was the only order on the table). He was super nice and even called me "sweetie." I know some people don't like such terms of endearment, but I don't mind. There are much worse things that people can call me, lol. The food smelled so good! And it tasted good too. So the Chicken Kabab Platter comes with 4 pieces of lean chicken breast, lots of rice, a piece of flatbread, a salad, half a grilled tomato and a grilled jalapeno pepper. The chicken was excellent. Really moist and tender. I love that it was lean breast meat. The rice was a bit too oily for my liking, but still tasty. It was soft and fluffy and there was so much of it! Like literally we had leftovers and used the rice as side dishes for 4 more meals. The bread didn't taste all that fresh as is, but I toasted it up in the toaster oven and it was fantastic. I liked the chew to it. I loved that the salad had so many ingredients in it. It has romaine lettuce, carrots, bell peppers, sliced pickles, cucumbers, tomatoes, and pickled cabbage. I forgot to request the dressing on the side, but it was ok because the salad was not overdressed (which is my usual complaint and why I request the dressing on the side). All vegetables were fresh and crisp. Overall, a very enjoyable meal (and my husband and I got to enjoy the rice in 2 more meals, haha). Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

At around 2 pm, I felt like a late lunch. I did a search and found Silk Road Kabob House nearby. Perfect! It's located in a large plaza with lots of parking. I backed into a spot and walked in. There were two diners when I had arrived. I had a nice woman welcome me and was my server during my entire stay. This place has combo specials. I had brought my appetite and ordered two of them: - Mantu (six) - Lamb combination (lamb kabob and koobideh kabob) with salad and basmati rice I got water and a Diet Coke to start. Both were cold and perfect to enjoy. I got starter naan (silk bread) with butter. The naan was so good. It was baked fresh and hot, allowing the butter to effortlessly melt on it. So good! I ate the whole thing, which I normally don't do. My mantu came out first. I got six of these steamed dumplings. They were filled with onions, and ground beef and lamb. They were drizzled with yogurt, with split peas sprinkled around each dumpling. OMG! They were fantastic. Each one was packed full of flavourful filling. The wrapper was the perfect thickness that kept the filling in, but wasn't too thick that made you chew incessantly. The yogurt and chick peas were paired so well with the dumplings. I highly recommend getting mantu here. My lamb combination came out next. There was so much food. I surprised myself by polishing off everything because the entire meal was delicious. The lamb kabob was yummy. The morsels of lamb were tender and seasoned nicely. The lamb koobideh was a ground lamb kabob that was nicely seasoned and equally as scrumptious as the lamb morsels. Excellent! The salad was fresh and crisp. I enjoyed it so much. The basmati rice was generous. It didn't have a whole lot of flavour, so I recommend mixing it up with the proteins and salad. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and all was well. Before I left, I used the washroom. It was clean. It was to the left of the counter at the back of this eatery. I let the nice woman know that the food was excellent. She was pleased. I wished her a pleasant day and left that I waddled out the door with a content tummy. I miss the food at this eatery. I always like to start off the new year on a positive note, so my first review of 2024 is a 5-star review for The Sarangi, Cuisine of India. I was poking around on UberEats looking for new restaurants when I came across a restaurant called The Sarangi. I looked it up and recognized the address as where Pookies Thai used to be. I looked up the restaurant website to find out more about the business and discovered they just opened on November 30, 2023. I also discovered they were having a 50% off everything on their menu, except alcohol, the weekend of their opening. A quick look at their prices also showed that their prices at the restaurant are lower than on UberEats. I always prefer to order directly from restaurants to save them the extra fees, if prices are the same (sometimes UberEats has wicked deals though and I can't resist, lol). So obviously in this case, I called the restaurant directly to place my order for pick up. I got the Non-Vegetarian Dinner for 2 (regularly $57.99, but only $28.99 with the 50% off opening special deal). You get 3 vegetable samosas, an order of basmati rice, a naan, 4 pieces of Gulab Jamun and you get to choose 2 drinks (I got a lychee juice and a mango lassi), and 2 curries (I got the Beef Korma and Chicken Kadhai). You also choose your spice level, I got medium. The portion sizes were amazing. Lots of proteins in the curries. The Chicken Kadhai had bell peppers in it in addition to huge pieces of boneless lean chicken. It was my first time having this dish. While I enjoyed it, it did have some black seeds in it that I wasn't crazy about. The Beef Korma had huge cubes of tender lean beef and the sauce was so rich and creamy. This was my favourite dish. I couldn't get enough of it. So good. The rice was nicely steamed and was soft and fluffy. The naan was blistery and had the right amount of chew and soaked up that delicious Korma sauce so well. The samosas were a bit on the oily/greasy side but they were good. The potatoes were mashed instead of cubed and there were peas inside as well. I was impressed with the lychee juice which had a potent lychee flavour and although it was very sweet, it did not taste artificial at all. The mango lassi was thick, rich, sweet and had a good mango flavour. They were also well packaged and didn't leak in transit. The Gulab Jamun were good for what they are. They were also very sweet. These are not my favourite dessert, but they were well made and I'm sure anyone who likes Gulab Jamun would enjoy these. I spoke with Ukesk (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) who was very nice. He told me they just opened November 30, 2023 and were mostly just doing takeout and UberEats orders at the moment. Their dining room was set up but he said they didn't have their decorations up yet. I also noticed they didn't have their exterior sign yet. They just had a temporary paper sign in the window. He told me this is their second restaurant, their first is Ramakrishna Indian Restaurant on Rideau St. We had a nice chat. I'm thrilled to have a great Indian restaurant nearby. I will be back to try their other items. Their medium was spicy, but I think I'll go one level up next time (which is medium-hot). They are in a strip mall with free parking in the shared lot with other businesses. Note that if you are going westbound on Carling you cannot turn into the strip mall because of the median. I recommend turning south at Woodroffe and then turning west onto Fox and following Fox until it hits Carling. Then take Carling eastbound and you'll be able to turn into the strip mall. This is better than overshooting the restaurant going westbound on Carling until you can do a U-turn. (1)

We were so happy that this place opened in our neighbourhood. We were BIG fans of Ramakrishna on…read moreRideau St which is the sister restaurant. This is BETTER. The food is amazing and the service sublime. I only regret that when it's found out by the foodies that reservations may be required
