I found them very expensive. Dinner for two, no appies, and one glass of wine, with tip came to 80 but the food was very good. I think you're way better off coming for their buffet at lunchtime. I'm not sure how much it is exactly but I'm sure it won't cost you $80.

Really... Hair in my food? Way to forever ruin indian food for me

I used to be a regular at this place but recently I've been hearing that the quality has diminished significantly... Being the foodie that I am, I had to see for myself. I ordered take out 30 mins before pickup and when I arrived it was STILL not ready. No problem, that's cool, yay for fresh food! That didn't bother me :) After waiting 15 mins at the restaurant, I'm given my food.. I ordered the tandoor platter which comes with salad and RICE. I get home and there's no rice... I normally don't fuss, but no naan or rice? How am I gonna eat these? So I give them a call, the OWNER lady picks up.. When I tell her about the rice she goes 'oh.' That's it... And I'm like ya ... You won't even guess what she said next. Lol. "Oh it's only 5 ounces of rice... It's very very little, it's okay" LOL WHAT?! No it is definitely NOT okay. Anyways... I ask her if she has delivery so she says no (lol but they do offer delivery) and so she's like "just come pick it up.. It's just 5 ounces but come" So I drove all the way there.. And got the rice.. So whatever that customer service sucks. If I remember correctly this place has good food. So I open my food.. The salad is absolutely dry with no dressing what so ever... But whatever. So I start eating the COLD tandoori mind you.. And I find a HAIR. Honestly, what worse could there be but hair in your food.... $25 meal and really not even worth $5. Don't waste your money.. You could go somewhere with better food and better service.

Highly overrated Indian restaurant in Carling. It was a Saturday so there was no buffet option so we went a la carte. Here's what we ordered Mulligatawny Soup & Veg Soup ; Veg Pakoras (deep fried crispy batter with veggies) & the main course The soups were barely passable they were made of the same base - the difference between the veg and mulligatawny was just that one had veggies and other had shredded chicken - very disappointing - veg pakoras were not fresh they were made earlier and were reheated in oil - duh! you can't fool the customers For the main course we ordered Garlic Naan (Bread sprinkled with garlic bits), Matar Palao (steamed rice with peas), Malai Kofta (deep fried veggie balls in thick and creamy sauce), Indian Fish Curry and a dahi raita (yogurt mixed with cucumbers) The breads were ordinary - could have been softer; Malai kofta was OK - if you have tasted butter chicken before then replace the chicken with veggie balls and that's about it Matar palao was again ordinary Indian Fish curry was the worst - there was a stark contrast to the curry and the fish - fish was bland but the curry was too tangy and spicy which was a weird combination to eat either with rice or with a bread dahi raita was the only good thing here oh yeah the service was warm and friendly so that's for the another star Would I go there again - naah I wouldn't think about it again - for the price I paid I could go out and eat thrice at Indian restaurants on Carling which serve much tastier food

Checked out this place on a day off with BF, we wanted to try their lunch buffet. It's a very small restaurant, only about 8-10 tables. The buffet is in the back, there's not a lot of space to form a line if several people are there at the same time. Better stay seated until you see the way is clear. The restaurant was clean. The waiter was attentive, taking empty plates away quickly and frequently refilling water. The food was decent, but it was inconsistent. The 1st batch of butter chicken was good, chicken was tender and sauce was creamy. The 2nd batch was more runny/watery and tasted more like tomato than anything else. The vegetable korma was not bad but I had better elsewhere. The naan bread could have been a bit more fluffy but tasted fine. It's not a bad place if you are craving Indian for lunch, they have a decent variety available. But since I've had better Indian elsewhere, it's unlikely I will return.

I always like to start off the new year on a positive note, so my first review of 2024 is a 5-star review for The Sarangi, Cuisine of India. I was poking around on UberEats looking for new restaurants when I came across a restaurant called The Sarangi. I looked it up and recognized the address as where Pookies Thai used to be. I looked up the restaurant website to find out more about the business and discovered they just opened on November 30, 2023. I also discovered they were having a 50% off everything on their menu, except alcohol, the weekend of their opening. A quick look at their prices also showed that their prices at the restaurant are lower than on UberEats. I always prefer to order directly from restaurants to save them the extra fees, if prices are the same (sometimes UberEats has wicked deals though and I can't resist, lol). So obviously in this case, I called the restaurant directly to place my order for pick up. I got the Non-Vegetarian Dinner for 2 (regularly $57.99, but only $28.99 with the 50% off opening special deal). You get 3 vegetable samosas, an order of basmati rice, a naan, 4 pieces of Gulab Jamun and you get to choose 2 drinks (I got a lychee juice and a mango lassi), and 2 curries (I got the Beef Korma and Chicken Kadhai). You also choose your spice level, I got medium. The portion sizes were amazing. Lots of proteins in the curries. The Chicken Kadhai had bell peppers in it in addition to huge pieces of boneless lean chicken. It was my first time having this dish. While I enjoyed it, it did have some black seeds in it that I wasn't crazy about. The Beef Korma had huge cubes of tender lean beef and the sauce was so rich and creamy. This was my favourite dish. I couldn't get enough of it. So good. The rice was nicely steamed and was soft and fluffy. The naan was blistery and had the right amount of chew and soaked up that delicious Korma sauce so well. The samosas were a bit on the oily/greasy side but they were good. The potatoes were mashed instead of cubed and there were peas inside as well. I was impressed with the lychee juice which had a potent lychee flavour and although it was very sweet, it did not taste artificial at all. The mango lassi was thick, rich, sweet and had a good mango flavour. They were also well packaged and didn't leak in transit. The Gulab Jamun were good for what they are. They were also very sweet. These are not my favourite dessert, but they were well made and I'm sure anyone who likes Gulab Jamun would enjoy these. I spoke with Ukesk (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) who was very nice. He told me they just opened November 30, 2023 and were mostly just doing takeout and UberEats orders at the moment. Their dining room was set up but he said they didn't have their decorations up yet. I also noticed they didn't have their exterior sign yet. They just had a temporary paper sign in the window. He told me this is their second restaurant, their first is Ramakrishna Indian Restaurant on Rideau St. We had a nice chat. I'm thrilled to have a great Indian restaurant nearby. I will be back to try their other items. Their medium was spicy, but I think I'll go one level up next time (which is medium-hot). They are in a strip mall with free parking in the shared lot with other businesses. Note that if you are going westbound on Carling you cannot turn into the strip mall because of the median. I recommend turning south at Woodroffe and then turning west onto Fox and following Fox until it hits Carling. Then take Carling eastbound and you'll be able to turn into the strip mall. This is better than overshooting the restaurant going westbound on Carling until you can do a U-turn. (1)

My…read morefirst time was almost 10 years ago when they first opened, it was also with my brother, and I remember it being just ok, so I liked it much better on my most recent trip. I had the lunch buffet both times. The cost for the lunch buffet on our most recent visit was $14.95 a person. The restaurant is in a little converted house and the buffet is small, so don't go expecting something huge like Tandoori Flame in Brampton, lol. The main buffet had 10 dishes: vegetable pakora, peas pulao (rice with peas), mixed vegetable curry, chana masala (chickpea curry), matar paneer (paneer cheese and peas), dahl (lentil curry), butter chicken, chili chicken, tandoori chicken and naan. The supplemental buffet had pappadam, raw onions and cucumbers, raita, various sauces and chutneys, watermelon slices, and Gulab Jamun. The food was hot (in temperature), rich and flavourful. However, nothing I had was spicy. The tandoori chicken was really moist, not dry at all, which is the case at some restaurants. The butter chicken was rich and creamy, and I liked the pieces of almonds that were in the sauce. I was pleasantly surprised to see chili chicken on the buffet. It was a bit oily, but still good. The chickpea curry was labeled "black chana" and was in fact black. I actually thought it was black beans when I first saw it. I had never had "black chana" before, but it tasted like regular chana masala to me. The paneer with peas was so good. Really rich and full of flavour. The vegetable pakora were crispy, as were the pappadam (which were broken into smaller pieces). The naan was hot, freshly made, and so good. They brought us a basket and we pretty much ate the whole thing. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any kheer for dessert. The only dessert they had was watermelon and Gulab Jamun, which I'm not a fan of, but my brother is and he liked it. I would have loved some Barfi or Jalebi. Oh well. Service was very nice and attentive. Our waters were refilled automatically without us having to ask. The restaurant is small and cozy. My only complaint is that it was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant (it was a September afternoon). There are a limited number of parking spots at the front of the restaurant, but they are on Churchill, slightly north of Carling, so getting out of the parking lot may be tricky. There is street parking on some side streets nearby (look at the signage because some streets do not allow street parking during the day on weekdays). They have the lunch buffet 7 days a week from 11:30am-2pm. They have a second location on Alta Vista near Industrial, which I have not been to.

It's their second location, their first is in Montreal, which opened in May of 2021. I got the Manchurian Balls ($12.49), dry (without gravy), and went with the default "regular spice" which I would describe as a robust medium spicy. There was some heat with mild lip tingles, but not mouth-on-fire. I liked it. I got 10 balls in my order and they were the size of average meatballs. The entire store is vegetarian. The Manchurian balls were made of cabbage, carrots and onions. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and full of flavour. I loved them. They were fried with some onions, bell peppers, carrots, and spices. They came with a garnish of green onions. I would definitely order this again. I got takeout, but they have seating to eat in, and even 2 tables on their patio at the side of the restaurant. They have no printed menu for takeout orders (not sure if they have any in the dining room). They have a sign with a QR code that you scan to view the menu, so don't forget your phone! I enjoyed the chicken shami, but I found the beef shami a bit gamey. The kabobs had a good flavour to them. The rice was soft and fluffy and nicely seasoned, but a little bit oily for my tastes. The salad was iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and red onions. Vegetables were fresh and crisp. The salad came with a spicy red sauce, which I liked, and a creamy dressing, which I didn't use. The naan was tasty and I appreciated that it didn't have pesky sesame seeds sprinkled on it like some other places. I ordered for pickup and the food was ready in about 15-20 minutes. I also upgraded to qabulli rice instead of just regular, and Salang salad instead of regular. I wanted to try the Qabulli rice because it's Afghanistan's national dish. It had the addition of julienned carrots and sultana raisins, and I believe it typically has sliced almonds as well, but this one didn't. The Salang salad had the addition of feta and kalamata olives, along with the iceberg and romaine Lettuce, cucumber, tomato, red onion, and pickled pepper. The platter had some weight to it! The salad came with both ranch and Greek dressing. They were fine, though I wish there was some other house dressing. The chunks of feta were great, softer than I expected and less dense, less salty. All in all, the salad wasn't anything special, but I did appreciate the fresh component to the dish. I'm not usually a fan of chicken breast, but the chicken was very moist and flavourful. Beef shami is always a safe bet for me. This one was a little more done/drier and saltier than I would've liked, but still good and the flavour was there. Both had the grill flavour that I enjoy. The tomato chutney that came with it was nice. It was almost like a fresh salsa but not chunky, and with a little spicy kick to it. The kabuli pulao (though they spell it "qabulli" rice) was tasty. They were very generous with the raisins and I wasn't big on the sweetness. The carrots were cooked and tasted a bit sweet to me also, but not sure if it was just the raisins cooked with them. Maybe the almonds would've helped cut the sweetness. I really liked the basmati rice itself, which was flavoured. It was great to try the qabulli rice, but I think I'll get the regular rice next time. The plain naan was good, nice a fresh, crispier on the outside and doughier on the inside. If you've never had Afghan naan before, it's not the same as Indian naan. Indian naan is thinner, flakier, and larger, whereas Afghan naan is thicker, denser. I do wish I had something to dip it in or had it buttered or something, but it's great bread and I had already filled up on the rice, so I actually split it and saved the other half to use in a sandwich later. My husband got the beef shami platter, which came with two shamis, and an upgrade to garlic naan. I tried some of the naan, and while good, I found salty. Maybe they used garlic salt? I also got the ayran/doogh to drink and the firnee for dessert. Doogh is like a salted yogurt drink that I've only tried maybe once in the past, so I thought I'd try it again. It was okay, but I couldn't finish the whole bottle. The firnee was homemade and very tasty. Not at all as sweet as I expected, and I loved how creamy/milky it was, and the crushed cardamom and finely chopped pistachios on top. It was perfect. Will definitely order from here again.
